D-League

Good morning folks. Remembering those who sacrificed all for our country.

My daughter and her boyfriend and my mother-in-law and her husband coming over later. It’ll be a low key affair but I’ll grill some burgers and brats.

Hope you all have an enjoyable day.

Morning all!

Went fishing yesterday morning and... nothing. Not one strike, bite, bump, even sight of a fish. It had stormed Saturday night, and the ponds were murky and muddy, Stormed again last night with lots of rain. Shop flooded again. Looking at having a trench dug but, being warned it could make it worse if they hit the spring underneath the ground here. Looking for other options.

Air conditioner has been acting up again so, our repair man has been suggesting replacing it for a year or so now so, we pulled the trigger on getting the new, complete system, (heater and condenser because we have an old system) and he will start installing Wednesday. Next few days will have highs in the mid to upper 70's so we will not be uncomfortable.

Nothing much else going on so, you folks relax, enjoy your holiday, and God Bless.

Good morning from Clearwater, FL. Headed out for more adventures later.

Good morning everyone.

I hope everyone is doing good. Not much to report or comment on from me. Dad and I did get down to the lake and fished a couple of nights (not long). Lake Cumberland is dangerous right now with all the floating logs. Some are HUGE. We only go about 3 mph when we're on the water at night. I'll try to include a pic (it's been a while) of the one fish we caught...32" striper at night on topwater. He made the trip worthwhile.

Oweh is going to make us sweat.

Have a good day.

Nice... I don't fish areas with stripers very often but one day I reeled in about 13 or so about 5 years back. None that big. Most were about 2-3 pounds if memory serves. But you know how fishermen stories go. They tend to get bigger when the years go by.

My buddy Joe B. Hall would have died for that fish. He loved fishing for them.

Happy Memorial Day!

Most all sides of my family are from South Central Kentucky and when the civil war came along they went both ways and those that came back had to live with other family members that fought for the other side.

My paternal grand mothers side were Lee's and they were about 50/50 split. My maternal grandfather's family were the Elmore's and they were basically CSA. The Higginbotham's were basically USA. The Cook's 75/25 CSA.

After the war they just did not trouble each other's siding. At the beginning of the war the CSA got together several brigades together from my home area and many from counties as far away as Jefferson and Lafayette. When the war started the North quickly took over their homeland they ended up being called the "Orphan Brigage". I ended up with a bunch of pictures connected to them.

Being a history buff: I filled up my Ancestry Pages with references to my folks who fought and died for both sides. Year before last I was contacted by a person in Mississippi who wanted to use some of my pictures in a book. I instantly agreed. When the book came out she sent me a free copy and the last few pages were two of my pictures that I sent. Then low and behold she gave me credit. I was not expect credit.

If you ever want to kill a day it is a quick read and you get an idea of how tough that group of Kentuckians actually were.

Thanks go out to all the vets today. My wife wants to watch a classic war movie so I suggested Bridge on the River Kwai. Sounds like she wants something more like Mrs. Miniver or Best Years of Our Lives. Black and white. Actually, all are really good movies.

I own a bunch of them.... Worth the watch..

Just watched "In Harms Way" a few days ago...

Good morning folks.

Back at my DC office. Busy day ahead catching up on stuff that slipped over the long weekend.

Pulling for an announcement that Otega is back today. I suspect he'll wait until the very last minute, which I think is midnight tomorrow. I think we didn't find out about Jaxson Robinson even at that point. Ah well.

I hope it is a great day for all you folks.

Good morning D, any of the D watch Kevin Costner's The West last night? This morning I am watching The Men Who Built America, there is a lot of history about Daniel Boone that I didn't know, really interesting!! A large part of the show this morning is about Boonesborough!!

Morning D-Leaguers!

61° this morning with a high in the mid 70's expected. Supposed to be that way for the next few days.

HVAC installers coming this morning to install new system. Went up in the attic yesterday and put down some plywood over the studs leading to the heater system to avoid having them have to step on each stud to reach the area needed to take out old and install new.

While working that, wife and daughter told me that daughters bathroom toilet was leaking (seal area) and flusher malfunctioning. Went to local ACE and got wax and flange, flow tube and flusher and replaced all of it. Never as easy as it is supposed to be but got it done. After that, I went out to clean bathroom for my shop for the installers to use while here and broke my flushing handle but fixed it enough to work for now. Small leak in the back bolt that holds tank to bowl too so... will change that one out after they are finished.

Well, enough of my problems, you folks enjoy your day if you can and God Bless.

Good morning from Clearwater Beach, FL. Sure is quiet and peaceful after all the tourists clear out.

Grabbing breakfast at 7 ET. Leaving here around 10:30 am for PIE Airport. Drop daughter, granddaughter and SIL. Had a great trip. I'm meeting up with Willy/Gassy and his wife later this afternoon.

Y'all take care.

Good morning folks. Rainy and cold in the east.

Busy day at work. I'm trying to get out a little early so we can take my wife's aunt visiting from Sausalito, California out to dinner. I don't think I'll make it though.

Deadline for Otega looms. While I still hope he comes back, because I like his spirit and clutch scoring, I've begun to think Kentucky might be better off without him, if he's disapointed to not make the NBA and determined to spend the entire year auditioning for next years draft -- including taking bad shots to "prove" he can make a 3, and forcing plays to pile up impressive stats. Pope's teams played better last year when opponents didn't know who to key on. I guess we'll know one way or the other by this time tomorrow.

Have a good day, everyone.

That's pretty cool Bert. I'd never heard of a 'Daniel Boone Half Dollar' so I looked it up. It's quite a story, with some interesting twists and turns. Congrats on still having one of the coins, especially one in that condition. Scroll down a bit on this link for more details.

Morning D-Leaguers!

64° this morning with more rain. High to be in the low 70's.

HVAC installers worked until 8pm and got it all replaced and installed to use last night. Cousins in their late 50's early 60's who use to do work on Ft. Sill doing the same thing decided to quit a few years back and self-contract. One has his son working with them. They went right at it and got it done. We provided drinks, lunch and had the attic set up with accessible flooring and a fan to make the job easier. I helped with the heavy lifting and then clean up when finished. They put in the whole system for $10K. Quote from Lowes and others was $12-14K and about 3 days to install once here. Prayers to God before helped, I am sure.

Next step, new flooring and furniture for the living room.

Nothing more other than you folks have a great day and God Bless.

Good morning folks.

Last day downtown this week. Already in the office.

Really happy that Oweh has returned. Slight concerns that he'll be pushing to do too much next season, and that it's going to be hard for Pope to find the minutes to keep 14 accomplished players happy. But based on last year Pope seems to have what it takes to hold a team together. And its impossible to predict how things will play out.

Back to work. Have a great day.

I accidentally posted these comments on another thread. Oh well..

I was a little worried about Oweh but I guess common sense kicked in for the man. I still won't be completely happy until all 14 are enrolled and attending class. Nearly 3 months away anything can happen, i.e. Acaden Lewis. There's only 200 minutes of playing time per game which will make for some intense practices. I'm sure Pope sold some of these guys on a 2 year or more plan because I just can't see keeping all these guys happy if they expect to play and not warm the bench. Young athletes have a lot of confidence and won't back down from a challenge. All probably think they're good enough to start.

Probably the deepest team in UK history now that the scholarship limit is 15. Excited as I've been in a long time and the first game isn't until November.

Go Cats!
