I just can't get into the portal hysteria. The portal and NIL are the future of college sports so I've accepted it BUT until a player is on campus and enrolled in classes I just can't get excited. Too many disappointments in the past. How many times has a sure fire stud signed with a different school? A lot.

Reds must have scored all of their runs last night with 14 because they were shutout tonight by the Rangers 1-0.
My D-League brethren, just got finished talking with My Darling. Think I am going to partake of the DRP 2. Yeah, I'm a fed. (Never confirmed that previously except to a couple people.) 18 years anyway, bought back my military time (Four years). Funny, I started as a government contractor the day before 9/11 at Fort Knox. (It kind of told me at the time I did the right thing selling my business. I was able to serve soldiers again.) After three or four years I was hired as a Federal Civilian. Ran the gamut and finished at the top of the General Schedule.
The funny thing, (I won't state exactly where I work now but, I am actually finishing where I started in a round about way.) I will explain further after the fact if the Lord doesn't take me home. The fact I am stating this now cements me taking the out. It is supposed to come out officially I hear tomorrow but was told it was official today. (DRP 2.) My plan is to do this the 7th. (Best laid plans and all...)
I always thought I should have retired in the military and that was my intention. That is why I started working for the government in the first place. Tore my knee up my third year in the Army and the re-enlistment NCO told me there was no way I was going to be able to retire so I got out and went to work.
I have committed items to finish for my people and will do that at any cost but, it is time. I see me working at my agency until the end of April or mid May (That depends on them.). I will finish all my committed work first. My Darling agrees with that. So much more to tell but I will stop for now. I will stop with words I say regularly and mean; "I am thankful!" So very thankful. God has supplied all my needs and I have so much to do that work gets in the way. With three children and a DIL along with six grand children My Darling and I want to give them our time while we are healthy. I cherish your years of friendship more than you can know. God Bless you and your families D-League. I am thankful...

Unlikely to play co-ed softball games this Sunday as the rain is supposed to happen every day until Saturday night. Probably go fishing instead.

Congratulations BB. I was at a retirement party yesterday of a woman with 48 years on the job where I work. Everyone always says the same thing -- I should have done it sooner. And I had lunch a week or so ago with a guy younger than me who retired after a really good career about a year ago -- he, too was saying he feels so much better and should have done it sooner. So, good luck and don't look back -- something might be gaining on you, as Satchel Paige said.
I'm settling into my day, wishing I were with my wife and younger daughter who are in Taos and Santa Fe, jsut having a 'girls trip' on the week my daughter's school where she teaches has Spring Break. They are sending tons of photos and having a great time. I think I need to get serious about retiring and joining in some of the fun.

As some know, the automated strike zone was tested in some spring training parks. The Cardinals were one. Touching your helmet signaled a challenge. St Louis sportswriter Derrick Goold has reported the Cards have been told touching your helmet will be an automatic ejection. No warnings.

Retirement is great..........once you learn how to take a 30 minute break every hour......and sometimes slow to come back from break.......It took me several years........I am a pro at retirement now.....

Reds lose another one to Texas 1-0. Two shut outs in a row. As I posted before, Reds woes continue. Last year only two other teams in the Majors were shut out more.
Although the Reds pitching was good last two games. A home run last night for the Rangers in the first for their only run and only three hits tonight for them (2 back to back which produced the run). I have noticed that with the Reds they are still chasing balls out of the zone a lot. Guarantee scouting reports for other teams have noted this.

Tax refund checked arrived in just 2+ weeks. Surprised that quick based on stories I've heard.
I'm as prepared as I can be for the next 4 days. Sump pump is working. Took in all potential flying objects. Weather alerts are active. A little worried about the basement and sunroom. Of course if we get a tornado it may not matter what the hell I do. Sick humor.
I just now realized that tomorrow is April 3rd. I remember it well. 1974.
On that fateful day I was driving down I-65 with 3 guys that commuted to work with me and we watched the top of Freedom Hall go off and up and parts of it landed all over the place. The little agriculture barns nearer I-65 were just lifted up and over the road.
It is hard to believe but we did not even get held up. A bunch of cars that had been in front of us piled up on the median barrier and we drove right through and straight home.
When I got home the sky looked a sick greenish color.
I will never forget that day.

I was only 13 but we watched it from my next-door neighbor's roof tear through Northfield subdivision. Despite my friend's Mom pleading for us to come down I couldn't take my eyes off of it. Several classmates lost their homes. There was a curfew that night and of course, we broke it. Bad kids.

Rain again this morning with a high in the mid 50's expected.
Tired this morning (no reason). Did the normal workout and monster walk yesterday and nothing else and that is all I am doing today once the rain stops. Couch potato time.
Had a Michelob Ultra-light last night and man was that awful. I usually don't drink American beers unless it is after softball games. Not bringing my German/Belgian/Japanese beers to the field. Thirsty after games so I generally chug American beers (Yuengling's now) while there.

Hey folks. Just a quick check in for me as I'm buried in work and have already been at it since about 7am. Rainy and cold in the east. A good day to focus on the tasks at hand.
My wife and daughter are having a great time in Taos, so I'm happy for them. I'll tack another week on my worklife until retirement to subsidize the great time, which from the photos is including lots of extravagances. Hey, that's what dads and husbands are for, right?

I fly up there on April 18. Land in Nashville. Rent a car. Drive to Nolin Lake. Stay the night. Fish Lake Barkley on April 19. Spend Easter Sunday back on Nolin Lake and perhaps some in Louisville. Return to ATX on 22 April.

I still beat the rain to grind out a 3-mile run. Now I’m at a car dealers trying to once and for all get rid of my extra car after my MIL aged out of driving and gave us hers.
Got a good feeling that the Cats will strike in the transfer portal today. Or not.
