D-League

That was ridiculously scary...

Cal won a close one....

Cal does have a new motto though, just after "Players First" of course,

Morning Legionnaires!

41° this morning with 30mph winds. Today's high to be in the mid 50's.

Well, football sucks for me for the rest of the season with Burrow out and UK sucking like we did. The only thing that will lessen the blow is if we can somehow beat UL this weekend. Now I must rely on UK basketball to give me something to cheer for.

Better shooting and a little better defensive team (maybe not last night's defense) than in recent years is encouraging. However, we really need a big to complete the team. I checked the box scores of the first 5 games and the two close games (KU and St Joes) have us out rebounded. A big would have at least given us more rebounds. Not sure how the offense will be affected when/if we get one of them back, but rebounding should improve.

Hey, it's hump day (sort of) for this week so climb that hill and slide (safely) down the other side and prepare for the Holiday.

God Bless.

Good morning everyone

With the bad weather today I'm not hunting. Wife and I will be going to VA for some shopping. The closest town with a Super Walmart, Lowes, Rural King etc. is across the border.

Close game last night. We won. Next.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning folks.

Working from home this week, which is a good change.

Cats had me nervous last night. Love or hate Calipari, I saw a stat that he wins two out of three OT games for his career. Now, some of those maybe should not have gone OT. But I remember it seemed Pitino ALWAYS lost a big time OT game -- 1992 Elite Eight Duke, 1993 FF Michigan, 1997 NCAA Finals Arizona. WIn ONE of those three, and the Cats very likely have another Championship banner. Ah well...

BAck to work. Short week, and a bit behind with all the recent doctor's shenanigans. You all have a good day.

Good morning D-League. Happy Thanksgiving Eve. Finishing up a long walk. It’s cool and overcast in the east.

Kansas lost last night. Still stings the Cats let that fans get away, but with some patience this team may get healthy and do something special.

Long work day ahead. Have a good one, folks.

Good morning from Forge Ridge, TN. Currently 43°F, cloudy and windy. Blah! Not a fan of this weather. Rain all day yesterday.

Here with granddaughter. She's walking over to landlord's chicken coupe to collect some eggs. Cool landlords.

Yeah, heh heh, Kansas got beat up last night. Shaka Smart has his team playing good ball.

Might go fishing Saturday. We'll see.

Wishing all an awesome day.

Whitey Herzog, aka The White Rat. Not dissing him, that was his nickname. I did hold a bit of a grudge against him because he traded Ted Simmons.

Yes Sir, I remember that. I sure liked Ted Simmons, reminded me of what an All-America looks like. That was always my take about Ted. Never thought much about Whitey at the time being a Tigers fan but he could manage.

I may have told it before, but a Herzog-Roger Maris story. They had been teammates prior to Maris getting big with the Yankees and became good friends for life. What would you have expected after Maris breaking the Ruth homer record? Lots of media and endorsements? Well it so happened that Herzog was building a new house that off-season (actually building himself as players didn't make big $ then). Herzog said Roger showed up with tools and a lunch pail first thing every morning to help him build his house and Roger never took a penny in payment.

Thanks Sir,

I had not heard that. I knew ball players never made much dough before this current crop (Last thirty or so years.) One memory I had was Al Kaline turning down 100k because he thought he was not worth it.

Al Kaline search turning down 100k

I searched Al Kaline turning down dough than it showed some of his stats.... Just wow in that they were consistent but not crazy good. Just loved watching him field in right. A pure cannon.

An OT tidbit: Greg Maddux won the most Gold Gloves. (I never knew that.)

Part of Als problem was he had several years played during a period when pitching was dominating baseball. If it makes you feel better, bill James has him rated the ninth best right fielder in the history of baseball. That is ahead of Roberto Clemente. James is the father of sabermetrics.

Thanks,

The only hesitation I had about Al Kaline was how he admittedly and it was stated about how he treated fans. Take this from a person that knew his kids names. (Mike and Mark) I was Tiger junky for a real long time.

Thanks again for putting Al's numbers in perspective. I had not really considered the pitching dominance that was prevalent at that time. I do remember some great ones. Just pure ICON's of pitching and a bunch of them.

Just a snip-it....

"Al Kaline played for the Detroit tigers for 22 years. As a rookie, Kaline singled off of Satchel Paige and in his final year he grounded out to Robin Yount. Paige's career began in 1927, while Yount's ended in 1993, yet they both competed against against Al Kaline in the same stadium."

Happy early Thanksgiving! Busy day planned for tomorrow but tonight is all about taking it easy. We'll watch Planes, Trains and Automobiles for the 2nd time this week. Can't get enough of it this time of year. Does anyone on here still watch the Macy's parade? To be honest, I never liked parades. My folks put it on every Thanksgiving but I probably only watched 10-15 minutes tops before I got bored.

Happy Thanksgiving folks.

A small gathering for us today - my wife, her parents, my daughter, her boyfriend, one cousin of my wife. But we'll have a nice day and we all have a lot to be grateful for. My son is in Austin and got invited to a friend's place. My older daughter is in Kansas CIty and couldn't get away this year, so she'll be with husband's family.

But I'm happy to be home. LIke a lot of you, I did my share of Thanksgivings overseas. My roster includes Saudi Arabia (1990) Mogadishu (1992) Port Au Prince (1994) Kabul (2001) and Baghdad (2003.) Not all were miserable. We found a good restaurant in Petionville, Haiti in 1994. And in 1990, I was at a Marine base in Jubail that George HW Bush was visiting to support the troops and they flew in a pretty good feast from Germany, or so I recall.

Still, I miss the big Thanksgivings of 25-30 family members or so we had at my parent's house for nearly 40 years between the time I left home and my mother got too old to host.

Here's a photo my sister took from about 2017 or so in the aftermath of the feast. That's me on the left, my daughter snuggled against me, a niece, a brother, a brother-in-law and a nephew, and my father on the far right. Good times...

LOL

Tryp-to-phantastic picture 55.

Like @MdWIldcat55 I too was in Saudi for the 1990 holidays. Had some other Holidays before and after that were away from home as well which is why when I am here, I have the traditional every year to make up for the ones missed.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and your families.

Special Happy Thanksgiving to you struggling with illnesses. prayers for you as well.

Hello all,

A very happy Thanksgiving to you all. Great to hear about your families.

Mine are here. The two daughters are actually cooking some things this year. They should be here in an hour and a half or so.

Got a turkey in the oven My Darling prepared this year. It will taste MUCH better than mine though mine "ain't" half bad. I was asked to make a pan of biscuits though.... (I can make some serious biscuits.)

I do hope you all have a great day!!!

Oh,

So all are aware, plants are a very needed item in life in general. Plants have very specific uses.

Just in case you were not aware how critical plants are in "every day" life....

Here is one particular plant that was put on this earth for one thing. My Darling nurtured this plant for a very special use....
