D-League

I worked insurance claims during Andrew. That was a bad one. The only good thing to come out of that was better building codes. Especially roofs.

When we went into Homestead everyone had rifles with signs that said "you loot and we shoot" or " nothing here worth dying for so just move along" we be ready.

OT, but how familiar are you with Universal Insurance Holdings based in Fort Lauderdale? Some of their brands are Universal Property, American Platinum and Blue Atlantic. Reason for my question is because I'm strongly considering an investment into UVE stock relatively soon.

TIA.

Watched a lot of football today. Kentucky seemed about as poorly coached as anyone. Teams like Appalachian State and Pittsburgh have much better line play, kickers, receivers and of course quarterbacks, though its true they still have their starters.

Ah well, maybe just a really bad game as the Cats adjust to a different QB.

I am familiar with the company and have not heard anything negative about the companies management. Their stock price is attractive and there is room for growth. They have over a billion dollars of premium written. Check into their reinsurers as this will, make or break a P&C company during a major disaster. If they are strong with reinsurers from Bermuda and Lloyds of London they pretty much have things covered if an Andrew or Katrina hit. You should be able to get their annual earnings report or investor information at their company website. Good underwriting is extremely important to a property & casualty company.

I retired in 2009 and Universal Holdings was in their infancy. My insurance background started in the late 1960's when I worked for a major auto insurer but it got too boring and I decided to get into Commercial Property where all of the action is. I went with a company called INA which was the oldest P&C company at the time and insured Ben Franklin among other colonials. INA consolidated with two other companies to form CIGNA P&C and then sold their P&C business to a company out of Bermuda called ACE, Ltd. I worked for 35 years with them and retired as an Executive General Adjuster. An EGA handles the complex high dollar losses (excess of $1 million). My speciality was inland marine, petroleum losses, commercial builders risk and Time Element claims I traveled extensively and handled losses like the World Trade Center, every major hurricane for 40 years, LA riots, California earthquakes, wild fires, oil well fires, refinery explosions,, pipeline ruptures and fires and just about every other claim you can image.

Good Sunday morning D League

Well another disappointing performance yesterday. Lots of work to do to get ready for another road game against South Carolina. South Carolina is beatable. I had hopes the Cats would make a New Years Bowl but that may be fleeing away from us. Now I just want to win the next game.

Our weather is pleasant and we have the nice breezes off of the Gulf and the humidity has been fairly low for this part of the country. The coffee is good and I am headed off to church soon for some spiritual refilling. I need it after yesterday. God bless y'all and have a nice day.

Another bright morning in Smiths Grove. The temps now are starting out in the low 60's instead of the 70's. This high pressure system has camped out over Kentucky and Tennessee for over three weeks. We are dry.

I was glad to see ND and Michigan go down yesterday. Alabama, Georgia and LSU are apparently power houses, and Florida simply killed Tennessee.

Impressive. Great advice. Many thanks. I'll definitely check into the reinsurance aspect.

The Employees Mutual Casualty Insurance stock (EMCI) I'd purchased and held 25 years went private September 19. A sector replacement for the investment is desired. My plan this time is split reinvestment between P&C and Life, or UVE and MetLife (MET).

Area was really dry during my visit up that way a few years ago. 59 wildfires in TN at one time.

We're currently at 79°F with yet more 100°F highs predicted for today and tomorrow.

Arkansas went down again yesterday. I'm fairly sure fans and alumni will not tolerate that situation too much longer. Jimbo at TAMU showing he's not worth the $. Gotta love the SEC.

Went fishing yesterday morning and was there (Rattler) about an hour or so when two young soldiers showed up and started fishing. I had already caught 3 and landed another not long after they got there. They fished about another hour or so without a bite. I had caught 2 more and lost another one trying to land him. (Warriorcat 6--LMB 1 for the day) when they came over and ask what bait I was using.

Well, I learned one guy had fished before and was from North Carolina (Georgia fan though) and the other a Hispanic kid from California who had never fished. I showed them the 7 1/4" stick worm I was using and rigged one up for the Carolina kid. Within three cast out, he caught a bigger bass than all of mine that day. The California kid ask if he could have one too so, I rigged him up with one and with the first cast he thought he was hung up in the grass. His rod (smaller than mine) was bent over as he was trying to unhook from the "grass". I realized quickly that it was not hooked to grass but instead a nice sized fish. When he got it in in was the biggest of the day. These 2 guys were now in heaven as they grinned from ear to ear.

I left not long afterwards and told them where to get those baits and hooks and also gave them one bag of 8 stick worms and a bag of #4 inset hooks to rig with. Took five of the fish home for fillets including theirs since they were not set for cleaning or filleting them.

Good afternoon D! I got back yesterday from my fishing trip. The three days I was there I probably caught over 100 Rainbows.I Caught around 10 that was in the 15-18" range and the rest was anywhere from 10-14." I only use ultra-light gear, so each one was a battle! Had a great time just tired. We did the trip a little different this time, we fished half day Thursday and Saturday and full day Friday (8) hours which included our shore lunch.
I like our old way better and we are going back to it next year, go down Thursday, fish all day Friday and Saturday and come back Sunday.

My biggest thrill was that I caught a Golden Trout, he wasn't very big maybe 12" but a beautiful fish!!!! The guide ask if I wanted to keep him, but no way would I! Let it go! These were the first that any body had ever seen caught on these trips. We found out later that they had only been stocked in the last few years. 10,000 I think they said, but one in 10,000 is not bad on miles of river!

One thing special we did this year was that we gave each guide a Sportsman Bible.

WC nice bunch of bass! I liked the story too, most fishermen would say nah not caught a thing or told them a lie about what you were catching them on! You are a real D-Leaguer!

Well Saturday's game sucked, but this team is young, injured and stupid at times. Oh well on we go, Will always be a CAT FAN!!!

Ya'll be good!

Cut the grass today just because it looked like hell. The ground was so hard from lack of rain that it felt like mowing over lumpy asphalt. We're under an "elevated wildland fire danger" alert. I'm assuming that's because it's so dry with wind gusts up to 30 mph.

The hummingbirds are still really active but they usually vamoose by late September/early October. Maybe they'll stay around longer since the long range forecast calls for unseasonably high temps well into October. Not sure if that means anything to hummingbirds.
