But yes, sometimes when you have back pain that shoots down the back of your legs it's caused by sciatic nerve irritation. It usually follows the sciatic nerve path from the low back down the middle of the glutes, down the middle of the hamstrings, down the middle of the calf, and then sometimes can wrap around either the front of your foot or the back. Can be caused by a multitude of back problems or just simple nerve impingement somewhere along the nerve distribution path.
It can also be a simple pain referral pattern from muscle guarding or a trigger point, muscle strain, etc. Sometimes that can mimic sciatica.
