CRAWFORD | Commonwealth's Attorney consulting with police over crimes against children in "Breaking

Uh oh. I dare say that this now could get very interesting. Is Wine a UK fan? It almost sounds like the best way to prove this books evrnts. If proof of the under age prostitution holds up.....Pitino is done. What a lovely twist. He could be finished and Karina still walks. The CA can verify aspects of the story while simply not finding enough to indict on the underage issue he is interested in pursuing.

Fellas...this is about to get real.

What about the underage recruits? Or the overage recruits and their fathers having sex with these underage girls?

This goes both ways!!!!!!

I look at it a little differently. I think it is an attempt by the UL community to put pressure on her to recant her statements, thus making the entire book nothing but a work of fiction. Now she has to decide, do I want the money from book sales, or go to the pen. I guarantee that UL put pressure on the Commonwealth Attorney to pursue this, since they are no worse off if she doesn't recant, and it she does, they are off the hook.

I agree. Plus, it would seem that at least Magee would be included in this investigation, since he with knowledge introduced minors to prostitutes and also gave them alcohol. I just don't like the tenor of the story mentioning that Katina Powell will be investigated by the CA, and not mentioning anyone at UofL being investigated simultaneously.

They can't prosecute her without destroying UL. The actions go hand in hand. Evidence would affect Powell and UL. I don't expect any real evidence to be found by ether police department. But all it takes is a single thread to be pulled and UL could totally unravel.

Listen, I believe that Katina was already advised by the attorney who published the book on any and all ramifications that could come from this and she is ready to face any if at all. I also believe that any DA, Attorney General, etc will cut her some type of deal in order to get UL. Remember, the bigger issue is that you potentially have a school getting tax payer money and potentially an employee of the school trafficking sex with underage girls on school property, you gotta believe if any of that sticks it spells so much more trouble for UL than it does Katina. Kind of puts into perspective Pitino's demeanor during the news conference. They have known about this since August so they have had time to not only investigate but review any and all potential outcomes, not one of them is pretty.

I wonder if perhaps her underage daughters were used for underage recruits and she and her over-18 daughter took care of guys that were of legal age. It would still be illegal and preposterously immoral, but at least it wouldn't be statutory rape. I don't think anyway. God, what a sleazy mess.

We do know one fact: McGee is done as a coach at any college level.

One fact I want to hear: the comments Blakeney told the NCAA who interviewed him last week.

Will the NCAA simply try to get the university to clean up its own mess? They sure don't sound like they want to get involved..........

Quote from the madam herself:
“I never tried to contact anyone at the University of Louisville because I didn’t trust any of them,” she said.

What is funny is all UL fans saying she is in trouble and should go to jail. UL basketball was the one soliciting, having sex with and paying for the prostitutes who were under age. If it were to be prosecuted there is full subpeona power for all sides. That is the last thing UL wants!

It seems this WDRB story is just a distraction tactic. Now, it may well be true, but this story coming out today is likely intended to distract people from the fact that this entire situation was initiated by McGee, the Louisville director of basketball operations and in an on-campus dormitory. THAT is the part they want out of the headlines.

But, as much as they want this to go away, that's not going to happen. As others have said in this thread, a criminal case against Katina Powell directly involves the University of Louisville. I'd say that is the last thing Louisville fans would really want, if they think it through. But right now, they all want to be disgusted at someone and this woman pimping out her own daughters is an easy target for the moment. But who orchestrated this? It wasn't that woman. It was, apparently, the University of Louisville's Director of Basketball Operations. And by the way, if anyone believes McGee was paying for this out his own pocket, I have some beachfront property to sell you in North Dakota. It's PRIME real estate! :D

Consider this. She constitutionally cannot be forced (under oath) to make a statement against herself. She then can absolutely question her accusers. The state will be able to question witnesses. That can also be under oath. Do the LilBro's involved intend to perjure themselves in order to save Pitino?

...further....you need to ask yourself why the UofL Police Dept itself has not decided to investigate this for exactly the same reason. Maybe they have, and what they have turned up will be very bad. Again....WHY has the UofL Police chosen not to get involved? IF UofL wanted to investigate this they could very easily control their own investigation much more easily than they can control the CA.

For me this says UofL knows things that it doesn't want to get out.

In an article by Eric Crawford, Powell claims she called the NCAA to report the story before she went to the publishing company. She claims she was told it was hearsay and they could not act. If this all turns out to be true, that she did contact them, and that the story itself is true, then what does that say about the NCAA?

Do they really ignore stories like this?

From the outside looking in perspective it's hard to determine. I feel like the NCAA would get calls like this almost non-stop attempting to accuse schools of cheating. It's an interesting debate though and would look horrible for the NCAA if information comes out that they knew what was going on and ignored it.

If they want to protect their cash cows, and/or are intimidated by the thought of having to deal with Jurich and Saint Pitino they most certainly will ignore it and blow it off.

Not sure why some of you keep acting as if $10,000 over a 4 year period and perhaps 5 is serious money. I have no idea what his salary would have been as director of basketball operations but I would venture to guess it would be enough that he could afford $2500/year for escorts. That is not even a car payment.

This. If she is guilty, then UofL is guilty. They dont get that logical conclusion.

Selective prosecution. This dbag Commonwealth Attorney is basically threatening to do just that.

This is attempted witness intimidation.

Prosecutors have a clear edict established by the rules of professional conduct not to engage in this sort of dialog in the press. Someone should file a complaint with the bar assocation.

Obviously ULPD has no "motivation" (other than the fricking law and doing their jobs) to charge her with a crime. If they did...its hard to say there were not prostitutes working the Minardi Little Brothel.

The NCAA probably has a policy in place, which was not followed as well as it should have been in this case. Yeah, I can understand that they don't take "outside phone calls" but they should have referred her to the proper authorities at the university. Rival fans could keep the NCAA busy for months by calling them over made up stuff.

Having said that, I think this lady's credibility is lacking:

“I called the NCAA in mid-March, I spoke with a young white guy, and I was telling him that I had a story about a college that was trading sex and all that stuff for money,” Powell told IBJ in September.

But her call to the NCAA’s main switchboard number at its headquarters was dismissed without action, she said.

“[The man who answered the phone] said he’s not allowed to take a story from somebody on the outside—you know, 'It’s heresay, I’m not doing that, I’m not taking the story.' I asked if there was anyone else I could possibly tell my story to, and he said, ‘No, there’s no one else. We can’t take outside stories.’ He hung up. I hung up."

Agree, this is more likely about an attempt to intimidate than anything. If there are going to be court proceedings, we want it to be in a civil action, with all the garbage that will come out in discovery.

She's actually insulated herself pretty well, by keeping the texts, the journal entries, the photos, by having it all investigated beforehand, that the publisher (as I understand it) is a lawyer, that the co-author is a Pulitzer winner. All that. If this were a case of her going to the newspaper, resulting in a published piece with allegations but without all that other layer of protection - then this kind of intimidation would no doubt succeeded. She'd disappear quickly.....

If you are crazy enough to prostitute your own children especially if they are underage then you are crazy enough to ride this out the whole way despite consul.

It would not matter if the underage girls only had sex with underage recruits. It will still be a crime against a child due to the fact that solicitation of an underage girl to have sex (regardless of who with) for money was facilitated by an adult.

BINGO. You hit it 100% correct. As a state run school, this could mean major implications for them. Also, brings into question whether the US Department of Education will get involved (i.e. Pell grant fraud, student loans, etc.)

Whoricane Katina has already admitted to pimping our her underage daughter who was 15 when she started. So she definitely needs to be punished for that. I for one hope nobody cuts her any breaks. She should spend a significant time in prison for her crimes against a minor. It makes no difference if her daughter enjoyed herself lol.

All that being said, assuming it is all true, Louisville needs to pay the price as well. Both parties should pay for their sins.

If that's UL's strategy then they really need to rethink this. Of course they may want to discredit the prostitute but the only way this works out well for UL is if they discredit her in saying this never happened. Discrediting her by saying it happened but they girls and players were under age at the time would not only back fire it would almost guarantee criminal proceedings of some kind for UL. UL either needs to prove this didn't happen or that it was just a rogue assistant that they can throw under the bus and drive off.
