Cousins post

Cal is in the bed he voluntarily made. This is the aftermath of not coaching to win games. The bill for players first above all else has come due.
He should've tried harder to convince certain guys to stay and been unafraid to take portal guys who could challenge the incoming recruits. You're either good enough or not...no promises of PT to anyone. Don't like it then UK ain't for you.

I would expect a former player to have his coach’s back.

Am I supposed to get mad about this?
Yes. He's defending him for reasons totally unrelated to his performance as the UK basketball coach. His job is to get wins, and at the same time, grow the players and prepare them for the next level/real world.

Boogie is only supporting him for personal reasons, not anything to do with his performance at Kentucky. Because these kids he recruits have one thing in mind - NBA and $$$$. Kentucky had nothing to do with their success. But in their minds, Cal did.

Yes you did. YOU said "Who besides a UK fan would put a lot of stock in Cousins opinion, he never has had a sterling reputation for judgement." Sounds like you are hating on him big time. Maybe you or media may not think much of his opinion or input, but PLAYERS do.
Cal has done a lot of damage himself with his refusal to change or being stubborn, but if you don't think this will not get ugly, you haven't paid attention or severely underestimate the former players pull in recruiting. And the people stating his former players do not care about Cal, you are badly mistaken. NIL fund will definitely suffer, and you can make up all kinds of "So what, who cares" and "we don't need it" and you couldn't be more wrong. No matter WHO the coach is at UK, we need a strong NIL fund to keep up with the UNC's, Kansas, and Duke's of the recruiting world. In TODAYS landscape of college basketball, if we do not have $$ to get the top shelf players, we will fall by the waste side and become a lower level player in todays college basketball. if we try to recruit players that do not require a NIL deal or recruit on the cheap, you think it is bad now, you haven't seen bad. Not saying I do not want a change, do not mistake my post as defending Cal or not wanting a change, it is to drive home just how important NIL is in todays game to keep it with the Jones (IN LANDING TALENT). if you do not have the talent, coaching will not matter, the portal is here to stay and players do not come cheap.
True to an extent but I would guess that St. Pete and the team we lost to Thursday night couldn’t combine 10 years of money to cover a years worth of UK NIL money. It takes somebody to lead. Talent alone certainly hasn’t proved it’s worth for UK overall the past several seasons. Talent can be developed, just got to have a developer. Its a lot deeper than you explain.

Get ugly?

It’s been ugly on this board for two years. People have called cal every name in the book. Personal attacks and bashing. Now some are turning on players that were beloved and even wanting to welcome back the ultimate traitor.. one who deserves the personal attacks.

Love him or hate him as our coach, this board has been a terrible look. Who the hell would want to come play or coach here if they ever seen this board.. luckily this board has fallen a ways as far as popularity with new easier social media apps popping up all over the place, I’d guess this board averages 57+ years old and gives off a huge get off my lawn vibe. Was reading some fb/X threads and the split of fire/keep is a lot different but there wasn’t much calling him a fatass, wishing bad things, or general Venom like this board presents.

To me he’s done enough where he should be an all time legend. I’ve lambasted his coaching before it was the cool thing to do here, but the vile treatment this board gives someone who isn’t a decade removed from doing things that really havnt been done here before combined with the undisputed fact that he’s done a lot of things for the community and state, makes him a sympathetic figure.

But, thirteen laugh emojis and two likes.

List:
1. Wright
2. Donovan
3. A reinvigorated cal with a staff dedicated to coaching opposed to recruiting, a commitment to multi year players being at least half of the roster AND rotation with the rest being split between freshman studs and MEN from the transfer portal, even though i don’t think it mattered AT ALL this year- a commitment to making zero promises to ANY freshman recruits, and a renegotiated contract that rewards success with bonuses not years but also makes losing to teen seeds or missing the tournament a trigger to an administrative role.

I don’t know that any of the three above are possible. If not, I would look young and south. Get the Donovan we could never close. Golden.
