Could Pope's offense be ONE of the reasons we're not getting guys out of the portal?

I'd expect in meeting with the kids he tells them what his plans are, what style of offense he runs, etc. In my opinion, a lot of guards may not like the idea of the offense running through a big out on top. Just a thought.

Potentially that can always be a concern.

I honestly think its about money.

Its the era of who can get me the most money and a pitch that will tickle my ears to go.

However, I do think its a money issue. Its either Mitch gatekeeping and waiting till after the 7th or Pope being stingy. I really hope its Mitch, not Pope.

IF it is a money issue, imagine if you were a recruit right now.

"I'd love for you to come to Kentucky, but we can't pay you in full right now until after the 7th"

Another school: "Wanna come here? We can pay you in full right now!"

I think that is what we are seeing.

Don't get me wrong, the offense IS a lot of fun, I was thinking that maybe some guys are turned off because the offense might not be running through THEM, but yeah.....likely the stupid money issue.

Mitch doesn’t understand what is happening,…. He is playing it “safe”….

He is happy that BBN loves Pope, it doesn’t matter that he is not providing with resources necessary, so he is content with status quo. He is leading from behind because “wait and see” is the safest approach.

I see what you mean now. That makes sense.

Here is the thing. Pope's system is a team effort. However, we all know that there were a lot of times this year that our system failed because players wanted to 1v1. I won't say their name but it's Oweh and Amari. Sometimes it helped, but more often it hurt us, especially against the good teams.

NIL doesn't come from the school it's a collective.
The 7th is not going to impact how much NIL money you have. The courts have already said you can't limit a players NIL value.

The 7th is going to determine profit sharing and back pay for former players.

I think that what may turn some off is the kids want to highlight their own skill more than a team concept. That's a tough one for these guys wanting to go next level. And let's face it, if coach starts talking metrics...like you will be evaluated as to when you get pulled, etc....I'm sure it isn't for everyone.
I think that we get confused on some of these guys looking like prime targets but don't know how they would do in a team environment.
It's hard for these guys to hear team first...shucks reading our posts a Lotta fans can't quite grab that idea.

All that means is there is always a big out there to curl a screen off of, trying to set YOU up for a shot instead of posting up expecting you to get him the ball. Unless you are a PG who'se "main thing" is distributing the ball. But even then, surely Pope would say how he would adjust his offense with such type PG.

It is the system as far as getting a stud with his eye on the NBA.

No player wants to be called a system player. Even if he is.

We are going to have to get the next level guys that want to win and the NIL money will be the most money they ever make playing basketball.

I think in most cases the reason for swings & misses is 1 of 2 reasons:

1) simply outbid. Maybe other teams want the guy more, maybe we are being cheap, or holding out for who we think may be bigger gets in the coming days/weeks, maybe we don't have the "pot of gold many think".

2) Playing Time. We are trying to get a C when we have a returning C that played 17mpg last year & was a 5* recruit, AND we have a 5* recruit C coming in already (& I agree we need one, but a guy coming in may not agree). There are probably other places without already 2 guys to compete with for minutes willing to pay as much. At the Wing (SG & SF) he have Oweh, Johnson, Chandler, & now Williams. Now other positions that should be less of an issue for us. At PG we have just Lewis. At PF we don't have anyone. I think at PF we are just waiting for Folgueiras to announce, that he was our backup plan to Lindeborg.

exactly, he thinks that since bbn is so excited over the Pope hire & team last year, that he has bought himself time & control over the basketball program

OP gives Pope absolute hell in the game threads . I really dont think she's on board , and thats OK .. go ahead and get off the fence and say so . Me ? I trust him to do the best any coach can with the amount of NIL the U of K has placed in his wallet . And his game day / in game stuff is slightly better than the last guy .

Yes the biggest selling point of Mark Pope basketball is why we lost Magoon Gwath. Of course.

Next question

I say nope it’s all cash for the most part

Kentucky is not getting anyone until April 7 or until Mitch decides is safe to do so…

Meanwhile, the staff continues to contact players, wasting their time, university’s allowance for airplane miles and car rental , not to speak about our patience, hoping that they will wait and be available by the time when the great AD wizard decides finally that it is safe for Kentucky to spend money…

Mitch for President!

Barnhart has no control over NIL agreements. Even if he wanted them to wait, he is powerless to make that happen.

OP might be a daughter of the former leader. CMP could cure cancer and he/she would find fault.

Anyone who's followed my posts KNOWS that I am enamored with Pope and despise the former coach. Pope isn't infallible, and the earth isn't flat.
I suggest you get in line and act as if you are capable of respecting different opinions and possibilities. Your sheep-think can be left at the door.

She is not on board. She was horrible last year and when Pope came, she has been throwing shade at him constantly when it comes to a basketball now she’s like a yellow belt and karate. She knows just enough to get her ass kicked.

I’m sorry, but that’s bull crap you constantly throw sideways shade about Pope and the players all the time you might as well own up to it

Look at this seasons roster every player improved their stock from Butler to Garrison. His offense isn’t an issue or shouldn’t be

In today's landscape, that kind of thinking will possibly land you in the NIT.
Right? No offense but I’d much rather be signing the guy who’s currently sitting atop the portal rankings in a three-way tie for highest-rated portal player in history, who also happens to fit our offense to a “T,” and respect the brand by bringing home hardware. Let some other fanbase respect the brand by pouting about twenty-year-olds liking multimillion dollar paychecks.

BS. You’ve been dogging Pope since day 1.

Look at the multiple posters above calling you out.

Wouldn't it be easier to find another team that has a coach you like.
