Coroner Reports Kobe Had Ritalin in His System

Obviously whatever Kobe had in his system has nothing to do with the crash.

There have been recent high profile athletes die tragically in plane and boat accidents. Roy Halladay and Jose Fernandez died in a plane and boating accident. They were deemed great guys after the wrecks and had these magnificent services.

Then the toxicology reports came back and Halladay had high levels of morphine, speed and ambien in his system which impaired him significantly. He took a plane up and could have killed a bunch of innocent people. Luckily he was flying alone and crashed into the Gulf of Mexico.

Fernández had the whole city of Miami mourning his loss. Later it came back showing he was the driver of the boat and had high levels of alcohol and cocaine in his system. He crashed his boat going 65 mph into a jetty and died. Unfortunately there were two other people on the boat that he killed with his recklessness.

How do you feel when you’re not on it? Are you happy you were on those drugs? Just curious as lots of kids the last twenty years have been diagnosed with ADD and given drugs, including my 10 year old cousin that is on daily adderrall, and I’m just curious if they are gonna have major long term issues because of it.

Firstly, if you truly have ADD your react differently to those drugs than someone that doesn't. I got no stimulant effect from them. I could take a dose before bedtime and sleep BETTER.

I never had the hyperactive part, but without the drugs I simply could not concentrate on anything for more than a few seconds. My symptoms came back full force when I quit taking it. I think I am going to have to ask my doctor to put me back on it if possible.

For example, I can't watch TV with my family because I can't follow what is going on. My mind leaves the TV after a short time and I find myself in another world (daydreaming or thinking about something else). I watch TV shows and movies alone that I have recorded or downloaded to my computer. After a short time watching I will have lost what is happening and will have to back up the player and re-watch part of it.

It can take me two hours to watch a one hour show.

I don't seem to have any long-term effects from being on the drug. I simply went back to the way I was before.

There was some type of short term (a week or two) effect with stopping it, however. There was no physical withdrawal or anything, but mentally I had a fear, or sense of impending doom, that hung over me. This gradually got better and was, as I said, gone after a couple of weeks.

I hope I answered your questions. If you need to know anything else about it just ask.

Thank you my friend for the thoughtful response. I’m sure that took you an hour to type (lol jk jk), but it’s definitely reassuring and helpful to hear.

Why in the hell did OP think this was in any way newsworthy?

I don't particularly care if Kobe had ritilin in his system or not but it is newsworthy as it seems everyone was all over the story os his death when it first broke. In parts, this was a tough read, but I'm glad the OP put it up just the same. Why attack the OP, he was just relating a story that came out today that involved one of America's greatest players.

I don't really give a crap about whether Kobe had ritalin in his blood. It's irrelevant in his death.

But for all of you acting like ritalin is like aspirin, it ain't. They don't call it "kiddie cocaine" for no reason. I've taught college courses on drugs and the marketing of illness before you call me crazy. Do the research.

Ritalin is a schedule II drug. That is the same level as morphine, oxycodone, cocaine. All scheduled drugs get listed in autopsies. It is not a problem as long as the medicine was prescribed by a doctor.

Yet just the mention was made that it was found urging the reader to assume the worst. Journalistic filth.

I haven't seen anything disrespectful posted about him, just discussing what was in a story written by someone. Is everyone supposed to ignore what happened to him? There will be another report once the FAA gets done with it's report.
What was the purpose of bringing up the league in this discussion? It was an obvious inference that there might have been some performance reason for it to be there. The league had no further control over Kobe since he was no longer a player.

Since what was in his system had nothing to do with the crash, what is the purpose?

Was he still in the league when he died? Did you have a conversation with his doctor to determine why he was taking it and for how long? Adults do have attention deficit disorder. What is currently in your system that this board could blindly talking about why its there?

I have no problem with it. I'm pretty libertarian with these things in general, much less a drug with minimal externalities like ritalin.

There is literally nothing to read in between the lines with my post. It was nothing more, nothing less than speculation about why a competitive adult might take ritalin. Whether he did or not has zero bearing on how I regard him as a person.

You getting your panties being in a bunch is 100% on you.

In the future, read all my posts as if a person who is borderline autistic wrote them, and they'll make more sense to you. I don't take sneaky shots. If I wanted to piss on Kobe's grave, I would do it in a perfectly direct way. I am not interested in attacking him.

And I'd love to have ritalin at the moment, because I'm currently doing more work than you've ever dreamed of. Actually, there are plenty of students/researchers in my department who use it and sell it, frankly, but I think I'm just in the wrong circles.

Also, I like long walks on the beach and a super weak daquiri. Anything else you'd like to know about my life?

I don't disagree, I actually had a reply typed up this morning questioning the intent of that statement and informing him that Kobe hasn't played in the nba for 3 years. Still though, the OP didn't write the report and you would have to ask the reporter why he put that in his story to begin with. I'll guarantee you that there is a lot of stuff that is also true that the writer didn't include.

And concerning the thread topic, I have no earthly idea why it’s relevant that a retired Kobe Bryant has Ritalin in his system while on a helicopter, but I agree with most that it’s definitely not a big deal.

I have no interest in you or your life. I wouldn't even know that you exist if you had chosen something other than that attention getting headline for your post.

Cocaine during grad school is not a solid choice to give yourself a boost.

I wouldn’t know I’m just saying.

that attention getting headline for your post.
What on earth are you talking about?

You said something randomly dickish to me based on absolutely nothing because you overreacted defending kobe.

I said something randomly dickish to you based on absolutely nothing because I enjoy antagonizing people over stupid internet squabbles.

There's no headline to speak of.

I hear that cocaine is for the cool guys. That is definitely not me. On the other hand, I have a feeling that you knew how to throw down in the day.

I am sure that you are right. He probably left out that he had consumed toast, eggs, and God forbid bacon, but I am sure that that wouldn't have gotten readers' attention as much as the inference of the possible misuse of a legal drug.

Remember when we took Ritalin and stayed up at WT Young all night studying for finals, listening to Radiohead in study room? Best cheddar tots I ever had that morning at the Ho. Ah, those were the days.

Because Ritalin in his system is irrelevant and had nothing to do with his life or death.

I felt that was just one small part of the report and was just confirming there were no drugs or alcohol involved in the crash, especially involving the pilot as it covered him too. Maybe the OP could have worded title differently as it seems some were offended by it but I still appreciated the link supplied.

Such a sad report to read regarding the carnage of the accident. I am curious though, is it normal for an adult to take Ritalin? Is it legal in the league as well or would it be considered a performance enhancer?

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/...lot-had-no-drugs-alcohol-system-autopsy-shows
Ritalin is prescribed by doctors to treat attention deficit disorders. Since it is a prescription drug with side effects and a small number of uses, it isn't normal to be taking it.

Doesnt matter if Kobe had smoked crack, did an 8ball of coke, smoked a pound of bud, then took a handful of ritalin. He wasnt flying the helicopter.

I’m guessing he was prescribed the ritalin. Ritalan when abused is called poor man’s cocaine. Kobe was rich. I’m guessing if he wanted a speed buzz he would’ve just bought the good stuff for that type of thing.

Still don’t know how the ritalin thing is newsworthy.

So Ritalin is a banned substance for athletes because it can increase power, strength, stamina, explosiveness. Kobe was known for these traits.
Other world class athletes, Lance Armstrong for one, did not test positive for banned substances and denied taking them, yet eventually admitted to it.
Not a good look, I would say.

You’d make a good journalist. Seems you have no problem spewing irrelevant filth.

He is out of the league, weed is a banned substance in the NFL but plenty of retired players partake after their career. Kobe was retired for 3 years this is a soft reason to try to question him
