Congrats WLEX TV for running worst poll ever

Scared me for a second. Thought u was gonna say the people voted for BBM ..😬😬😬😬😬😬

I'll be in the minority here but even when we wasn't good.... see Joker years and first few years of Stoops. I watched every minute of every game.... last year when we got waxed by Bama, watched till 0:00.
I'd rather watch bad football than to watch basketball anymore. It used to be the opposite. I bet I haven't watched 10 basketball games in 3 years. It's just not as.interesting to me. And last year really done it for me, that was dreadful.

I'm being completely honest, no hyperbole. I didn't know Big Blue Madness was tonight until my alarm clock went off this morning and I heard the Leach Report.

And I honestly don't give a rip. Astros Red Sox Game 1 of AlCS is tonight. And tomorrow is gameday, all day.

Hopefully BBM is a success and all, but I honestly haven't cared enough to watch it the past three or four seasons. Let me know when the actual games begin.

I do believe we're in for a great year in basketball. Cals done a lot this offseason. But it's football season and basketball isn't remotely close to being on my mind yet.

I’m not choosing between the two. I’ve just lost some interest in college basketball in general over the years and in the process have really grown to love college football. That trend is the same with UK. I’m not choosing between the two (could have explained it better than percentages), just know that I get much more excited for UK football these days than basketball.
I haven’t watched a college basketball game that didn’t involve UK in over 2 years.

I’ve never understood why people would go to BBM and not the blue-white scrimmages.

That's actually what I've always done. You can get BW tix for dirt cheap and sit super close to the floor. It's always a good time and cant wait to go this yearm

I've never gone to BBM because at first I just didn't want to camp out. Now it's for the reasons listed. Mostly apathy, it being the same old song and dance, and Cal not letting them actually scrimmage. My buddy texted me about an hour ago asking if I wanted to go for free. I'm opting to hang at the house and watch the MLB playoffs.

I do believe with some revamps, BBM can be exciting again. It's also great for dads to take their kids too I would imagine. But I'm personally not interested in watching two hours of women's cheerleading and basketball or to listen to a Cal speech all to get a brief glimpse of a half assed scrimmage.

The bullet points and clips will be available online 5 minutes after its over.

I've always been football over bball, but I used to at least watch all the bball games and keep up with it pretty close. Didn't ever watch other bball games, only UK's.

I honestly forgot we had a losing season last year till I saw an article about it recently. I just don't care anymore, I don't know any of the kids on the team, don't care to get to know any since they'll be gone in a few months. If I'm flipping the TV and I see a game on I'll watch it, but don't care otherwise. Cal brought the recruits, but the bigger thing he brought is fan apathy, very few of my friends care anymore either.

Contrast that with fball season, my whole Saturdays revolve around college football. I watch games all day long and live and die with the Cats.

The women’s portion is just awful. We have the women’s team, even the head coach and assistants, dancing to rap music for twenty minutes during introductions. I’m not falling for it again. I’ll tune in 90 minutes after it’s supposed to start.

That's how much Stoops has changed UK

In years past, that poll would've been flipped the other way. One of my buddies said, if you give a "basketball school" a good football team, that school will become a "football school".

Football is just a more fun, strategy ridden game.
This true. What also is true is Stoops is making it “team first” vs “players first”. Stoops way makes it a reflection on our university. Cal allows it to reflect on particular played.

I completely lost interest in BBM after they brought out the cloggers. Like others have said it has run its course & just isn’t very special anymore. When I was younger I loved it. But, at the time very few schools did an event like this & back then it was Midnight Madness. As a kid I thought it was so cool to stay up late to catch their first practice of the season & to get a glimpse of our new freshmen. Recruiting info was sparse & we usually didn’t get to see film or anything on our recruits til the season/practice started.

But, now, everybody has a “Madness” & they really have very little to do with actual basketball. It’s no longer exciting or special in any way, to me. And, the fact that we have so many new players every year really dampens the joy for me, too. The one & done era has taken a serious toll on my interest in UK & college basketball, in general. And, it’s a damaged product right now that isn’t even a shadow of what it was in the 80s & 90s. It’s become hard to watch for me & I had been infatuated with the sport my entire life up until 5-6 years ago.

Now, it’s not even close. I’m 100% football first. I still love UK basketball but I don’t live & die with every game like I did for decades. I find myself changing the channel during games & that would’ve NEVER happened before. Losses used to wreck my whole day or weekend & now losing barely even pisses me off. I used to be about 50/50 with UK basketball & football. But, now, it’s more like 70/30 or 80/20 football. Regardless, I agree with the consensus that to even compare BBM to our biggest football game in 70+ years, which could actually have national championship implications, is just asinine. But, sadly, it’s typical as well.

Don’t really understand one way or the other.

I’ve always been 100% UK basketball and 100% UK football. No other team in the SEC is forced to make a choice like UK fans.

Just win in both, and add baseball into it as well.
As the OP said, it's a stupid poll. And you're not being forced to choose between sports/teams. How hard is it to choose between a game & and a practice, regardless of the sports? Take all of UK sports & which ones wouldn't you rather watch a game of rather than the practice of another?

I just continued the logic further. He’s essentially asking how many care about football at all, because if you pick BBM obviously you really don’t care about anything other than basketball. As you said it’s a game vs. a practice.

I was also commenting in response to how these threads usually go - into a discussion about “which” sport you like more. In the major sports (add baseball for me) I don’t see how there could even be a preference. I want championships in basketball, football, and really, baseball.

A better option to lead into tomorrow's game in Athens; the vball Cats taking on LSU tonight on SECNetwork at 9pm. Coach Skinner is on fire with his team and they deserve even more support from BBN.
This could be a very special weekend with or without the overkill of talking NBA potential during BBM.

Outside of the NCAA Tournament, I’m the same way. It’s been a few years since I watched more than a few minutes of a game.

How long has the WLEX anchor been around town? Since Cutler signed off? He did sign off, right? If the present anchor came in from out of town, he just subscribes to the "hoops school" trope. Better wise up, or he'll alienate his audience.
Cutler was good w fball when he was at 18. I think he even wore a UK jersey on the sidelines.

Yeah. I guess me too. But basketball, I’m about done with. Cal has ripped the meat off my bones. Football has restored my excitement for UK. As for baseball, I never really followed collegiate baseball much, but I do hope UK does well. But let’s face it, it’s a basketball first, football second state. Lots of folks, including me, have made the switch. And, if you had told me 30 years ago that it would happen, I’d have laughed and put you on ignore. But, here we are. We could have our cake and eat it too, the resources are there. But, alas, got to have the right pieces in place. Unfortunately, only half are, and there’s too many who don’t know which half is which. So, down the road we go.

Plus the events are on different days, so why not look fwd to both. I agree that BBM is a bore and a pep rally at best. The b-ball bw game would be much better.

This AM, on the local TV, they were running a poll asking viewers to decide: What are you more interested in, Big Blue Madness tonight, or the UK vs. Georgia football game tomorrow?

I will post the results a few lines below, but tbh, WTF kind of question is that, uh, first preseason basketball practice, or the nationally televised no. 1 ranked team in the country, with College Game Day on hand, vs. an undefeated no. 11 ranked UK team off to their best start in 71 years??

Naturally, the final result was 93-7 in favor of the football game, but what made it even more laughable was that the local broadcaster said he was totally surprised, "here in basketball country, I sure was not expecting that result." He must not get outside the studio very much, I guess.

I guess tomorrow's poll will be "Which do you prefer, warm sunny days, or cold, windy days with icy rain?"
That ranks right up there with all time bad polls. I have seen a couple on here though...

The broadcaster hasn't woken up to the fact that it isn't "basketball country" now it's sports country. Maybe his poll will start effecting his aging biases.

I do not understand why people try and put one sport fan against the other, why can’t you love both sports equally?
I think we all do. This is just more about ambivalence about this particular event.

I'm actually pretty damn optimistic about what Cal's got in store for this season.

But with the season the football team is having, I'm just not even remotely ready to start thinking basketball. I'll be ready when we play some real games though. Soon enough!

Heading out to watch high school football, but have BBM set to record. TBH, I have more interest in the Blue-White game than BBM though. Been to a couple of BBM back in the 90's when they were in Memorial, but to me it was too much of a hassle for what you got to see.

I’ll be honest with you, I almost gag whenever I hear Cal go into his “snake oil salesman “ mode. People say he does it for the recruits but I think the days of BBM swaying a recruit are long gone.

Guys looked good throwing t-shirts to the crowd. Really good. That's all I saw and that's only because I turned the volleyball game on a few minutes early. Girls are kicking butt in the first set.

There is been a general lack of interest in b-ball for many years. Case in point, I remember going to the blue-white game in Memorial prior to the great 95-96 season. It was packed and had a great atmosphere. There was so much anticipation.
Now, nobody really cares until football is over, and maybe even longer.
This didn’t start under Cal, but it has gotten much worse over recent years. KY b-ball May never mean what it used to.

Not specific to the poll, but overall, fandom of the BBN has been transitioning to football more and more every year. Personally, 15 years ago, I was an 75% basketball, 25% football fan. It’s totally opposite now. Still root on both, but I never miss a football game and probably miss or only see a portion of half of the basketball games now. The perfect storm of Stoops establishing a solid program and roster turnover in basketball just not my thing.

I haven’t been this excited for a football game since this past Saturday night!
I honestly never would have believed that stoops would surpass Cal as a coach.

Here we are on the day of arguably the biggest football game in the history of UK football, and another UK media site is 90% “blah blah throws down massive dunk”, “Cal addresses crowd”, sounds like the leader of a cult to me lol. We winning this today!

Yea, I recorded BBM and fast forwarded to the men's part. I then see Cal going into salesman mode and immediately fast forwarded to the scrimmage. The scrimmage really shows you nothing since every play is an uncontested dunk. BBM has run it's course.

I've always been about 60/40 UK football since I was a kid. Even the years when we stunk in football I religiously watched every game. Staying up late to watch the delayed broadcast with Rob Bromley were great times even if we lost.

I'm much more of a college football fan than college basketball, especially the last few years. I can watch college football all day long every Saturday. I rarely watch another college basketball game that doesn't involve UK or one of the blue bloods because I love it when they lose. But I will give basketball their due in that the post season tournament is much more exciting than bowl season. Bowl games have turned into glorified scrimmages and there's so many of them now, that they don't mean much.
