Coen Returning According to KSR

I'm sure someone can make a rational case that UK could have hired a more experienced or a more loyal OC. But I think Liam Coen coming back is very good news for us. I want to see what his new contract says about terms and duration. There is no reason why Coen or anyone else should surrender their long term ambition to be a head coach. But Coen is young, and Lexington is a good place to raise his family. Judging by the differences in our offensive production in 2021 vs. 2022, this looks like a really good move. If Coen had not taken Sean McVay's offer a year ago, none of this would be an issue now. Learning experience for Coen, and probably for Stoops and Marrow too. Now, let's get our offense back on track.

I wonder if Coen and Boulware will coach in the MCB.

You take him for how long you can get him. Hopefully it's 2 to 3 years this time.

Guess we find out if you can ever go home again. Was not true for Coen in LA the second time.

I view these things more like coin flips than sure things. If they hit on quality portal targets - and improve the Jimmy’s and Joe’s - I’ll feel more like this is inevitably a good thing. If Coen had last years OL and Levis injuries the offense would still have been a step back from 2021.

We need continuity at the OC. It cant be a revolving door. If our head coach is not offensive minded then we need an OC who can give us that identity and stick with it

This isn't how it works.

Good OC's move on. Fast. To bigger and better jobs.

The KEY is having a protege on-staff, learning the system, developing nuances but able to transition into when an OC leaves. This is how good offenses sustain year over year.

He's going to bring in recruits, and if he stays for 2-3-4 years doing that, the prestige of the program goes up, and it's that much easier for UK to land a high profile OC if/when he leaves.

Rowland seemed to indicate close but not yet so who knows? I am glad we're seeing it reported elsewhere, on a national level.

Coen left a $1.2 million contract with an excalator at UK to take half that much in LA. It was a long term business decision and it didn't go well for him, but now he gets an even better opportunity in Lexington. Football is a volatile, unpredictable game.
Going to be interesting to see this new contract. Hopefully he stay for years and when Stoops retires he can be HC. ( Wishfully thinking .)

That’s what UGA is trying to do with Monken. Smart is defensive minded and they have Monken finishing his third year there and they’re paying him 2M+ to stick around.

Regardless of if it’s one year or more, awesome hire

Now can we get a wino to coach the OL

Maybe some Mad Dog for him?

I can tell you for a FACT (and not saying who or how I know) but his ultimate goal in the NEAR NEAR future is to be a head coach , wherever that may be .

I just wonder if maybe his NFL ambitions have changed. He coached a year in college then went back to the pros and now he's coming back. Maybe he found out that he actually liked the college game more than the pros. We can only hope.
