Coach K to have knee replacement surgery. Duke cancels Dominican trip

Duke was trying to get bagley on so he could make the trip with them. Seems like they cancelled it to pursue bagley more heavily IMO

That's a big time surgery and rehab deal. I have a bad knee myself that needs it. Definitely no K fan, but sympathize with pain. Wish him the best with that.

Back and knee surgery in less than a year. Damn dude, let it go k.

Yea sucks for the players. Guess capel shouldn't be expecting the head coaching position to be given to him.

Tweet this to the proper recruits to show them how selfish K is, not to mention falling apart.

Had a knee replacement and was back golfing 5 weeks after the surgery and rehab. Rehab continued and it is painful to go through but he should be fine for basketball season and will feel tons better without the pain. Also will be able to get around much better without that pain hindering him. Knee replacement surgery is major surgery but recovery and rehab as well as the developments in new knee parts has advanced a great deal since they first started doing them so a person can come back much sooner than the old days of knee surgery. Of course, every person comes through them differently but I felt fine pretty quickly but admit I worked very hard during rehab and therapy.

Couldn't Capel and the other assistants still take the team?I'm sure if Cal was hurt he still would want the team to go.
This. If Cal needed surgery, he wouldn't cancel the whole trip I can guarantee you that. Coach Payne, Robic, and Justis would take the team on the trip and get valuable time together with the assistants leading the way. I see absolutely no reason to cancel the trip just because K isn't going.

Yes, agree with all those commenting about why would the team still not go? Something doesn't make sense in that regard, as there are assistant coaches, etc. Plus it isn't like it was the NCAA tourney they were playing. Either very selfish or there is more to the story.

You hit the nail on the head with the working very hard during rehab and therapy.Very important. This replacement will be my 4th or 5th major procedure on the same knee. Glad to be rid of it!

Me too, having a total knee replacement on my right knee later this month. It's not gonna be fun. Don't like him as a coach but wish him the best.

You'll do fine and will be so happy you did it once you have finished the rehab stuff. I was very reluctant when I went into my surgery (hate any kind of hospital stay at all) but does it ever feel great now. I sure don't miss the pain I had been enduring before the surgery. Rehab isn't real fun but if you have a determined attitude about it and just do everything they tell you to it will be over quicker and you will have much more flexibility than if you take it too easy. I also was in pretty excellent shape going into the surgery and my doc said that was a huge bonus for me in a much quicker recovery. Good luck to you and look forward to a pain free knee afterwards, you'll love that part.

The rehab and PT is the key. Glad you are doing well. Being pain free has to be a blessing.

It is kind of weird to cancel the whole thing. UK fans would be going ballistic if this happened. But I doubt there would be any duke fans going anyway.

I'm guessing K saw how poorly Capel coached in his spot last year, and just nixed it. Pretty lame for the kids, that'd be a fun trip/experience.

That's an elective surgery could have waited til they completed the trip. No sure why they would cancel for that reason alone. Has to be other motives

Guys leave the poor man alone don't you realize how hard it is on your body to teach the tripping and flopping techniques a man can just take so much.

The man never ceases to amaze me. He's the first snake with a back and knees that I've heard of.
