A prime example of the kind of treatment officials give K (and why the chance of getting fair treatment this season against Duke is highly unlikely) happened at the end of Duke's game tonight with The Citadel. It was near the end of the game and Duke's Wendell Moore was trying to finish a monster dunk but the Citadel forward came across the lane and gave help defense. There was some body contact and a foul, with very little contact up high, and Moore lost his balance and fell hard. Coach K comes out and ushers the Citadel player away, like he's there to hurt him and then pitches a fit to the officials, who promptly go to the monitor and issue the Citadel kid a Flagrant 1 (which is excessive contact to the head). The call was totally bogus. Even the ESPN guys calling the game were completely baffled by the call. It was Jamie Lucky who made the call, who is a known K brown noser. And that is why Duke will likely win it all this season. Yes, they have talent, but the NCAA is going to escort him to the front row.

Here is a link I found to the game. If someone can clip this it would be great. The original play happens just after the 1:15:00 mark and then they show several replays. This clip should take you within a minute or so of that spot.

A prime example of why I only watch any part of a Duke game when they have a real chance to lose(same goes for UL,UNC and KU) The NCAA has made it difficult for me to watch several teams anymore. The Zags are fun to watch, so are BYU, Alabama and some of the smaller schools in Texas

K can't leave soon enough for me ,if his back went out or he accidently swallowed some of his hair dye it would be a good thing. Come to think of it if he would come and watch one of our practices he might be out for a month or so(seems to have that effect on our players)

Watch the video- he's telling the Citadel player to get away, points at him, puts hands on him and everything. I also note you're not arguing the call.
i though that part looked pretty mild tbh. looked like he just politely told him “we got it” when the citadel player was checking on moore.

the part about getting the official to change it to a flagrant one is shameful however.

Speaking of the this game. Their head coach collapsed on the sideline in the first minute of the game.

"All things considered, he's as good as he can be,'' Castleberry said. "He was coherent the entire time. ... He just said he was in pain.''

The team later said in a statement that Baucom is "alert and in good spirits" and will remain in the hospital overnight for further evaluation.

Team spokesman John Brush said later that Baucom was in good spirits and would remain in the hospital overnight. He'll return with the team Tuesday morning to Charleston, South Carolina.

It’s definitely sickening. Totally not fair either. Lucky can barley tie his shoes let alone call a decent game.

Flagrant - 1: I watched the entire game as The Citadel is my undergraduate alma mater. Really bad call on the F-1...especially since it looked as though Coach K was making the call for the refs. He appeared to me to be on the floor "directing" the refs to review the play...playing ref from the Duke bench.

Citadel player reviewed for "flopping???" Within the same short span, a Citadel low-post defender took a pretty fair bump in the paint and fell backwards. It wasn't worthy of a charging call because it was too far under the rim and not that hard a shot, BUT the refs reviewed the tape for an intentional "flop" by The Citadel's player. Oh the irony! ....a Duke opponent getting scrutiny for flopping. In the end, no call, but I half expected my Bulldog players to start drawing phantom tripping calls to complete the murderer's row of Duke's hardwood sharp practices assigned to my team that was trailing by 20 at the time.

Pressing on without HC...a record for 3-point shooting: Still, the Dogs played hard all the way through....kept it close into the early second half and sunk more threes (18) than any opponent in Cameron Indoor history despite their HC Baucom (with a decades-long history of heart problems dating back to his days as a state trooper) collapsing in the first two minutes of the game and being taken to the med center. Good job by the youngsters keeping their focus.

No word from the school as to his condition, but I assume "no news is good news." Praying for a rapid recovery for Coach Baucom.

Give 'Em Hell Citadel....Go Dogs!

Yes, well stated NavyCat. I caught that review of the potential "flop" also. I was fully expecting them to make the call. Had the game been closer, well, we know what would have happened. And I completely agree with your assessment of this F1 foul. Coach K was out there directing the officials regarding what they should be doing, and they followed his instructions perfectly. There was no F1 here and it's not even close. It was clearly just a basketball play. Hard falls happen sometimes, especially when a guy gets up in the air like that to make an acrobatic play of some kind. The defender here was just making a defensive play. The only reason it was a foul at all is because there was body contact down low. He didn't even touch Moore's head on the play. K got his call, period.

And I would DARE any Duke fan to make the case for Flagrant 1 on that call. The entire call was because they wanted to appease Coach K, period. If I find a good video of the play, I'll post it for all to see.
this has been the case his entire career after deano retired. k used to bitch to the high heavens that deano got all the calls and he was right. deano got all the calls. deano retires and k assumed the position of getting all the calls and he got used to it. don't like a call, tell the official he is a mother toucher and a son of a bitch=bingo! the officials ALWAYS bend the knee and pledge fealty to k.

i would be embarrassed to take a small child to one of these tune-up games when the crowd is low and not loud. you can hear everything in that barn including k cursing out officials, coaches, and players.

if a tree falls in the woods and no one was around when it happened, did a dookie REALLY get a DUI??? i think we know the answer.

lastly, all of this crap about him being gracious, like when he interrupted Cawood's last broadcast and made it about him. goes to uk locker room to congratulate us for losing is all about shining a light on himself.

a butthole when there are no cameras are around, and he hates old people, kids, and dogs!

so, reading this thread....i'm curious.....could someone explain WHY the officials "give all the calls to duke"? I mean, is it that they are "afraid" of K? if so, WHY? are they not afraid of anyone else? can other coaches not use harsh language on them.....

and on this subject, why does everyone here think refs "hate cal" and give him all the shitty calls?

and if "duke gets all the calls", how do they only have 5 chips?

just curious...

Can I ask you a question ? Is k's wife a girl or a guy ? I can not tell from seeing her or him, which is it ?

It probably has something to do with Coach K being the face of coaching college basketball for the last twenty years. And, you know, it's obvious to anybody who has watched a Duke game or two. The guy who pioneered flopping as a defensive strategy?

When was the last time Coach K was ejected? How many technicals does he even get? How many times is Duke ever on the wrong end of a FT disparity?

Cal gets a ton and is ejected yearly.

I tell you what, why don't you just look at the call and argue for a flagrant 1? Don't move the goalposts here. I never said Coach K gets every call. I just said he got this one and it is clear he was directing the refs. As I say, prove to me it was an F1. The definition is posted above.

i wasn't referring to this particular call. I should have specified that i was referring to the general attitude about the subject of "duke gets all the calls"...

that said, i didn't think it was an F1 either, but to my point, how does K have "power" over what the refs actually see and decide? you think it's just "lobbying" for an FI?

Well I'm glad you at least agree that was no F1 and anyone could see it. But if you're just asking my opinion about Coach K, mine is no better than anyone else's. How was he able to get this called an F1? You tell me. Want a conspiracy theory? Nobody has any objective facts here, just observation. I have a feeling anything I say will be made out to be just foolish nonsense.

LOL at the poster ITT arguing that duke doesn’t get all the calls. This shit has been going on for at least 30 years. Just watch the 1992 Kentucky-duke game for tons of proof. The officiating in that game was absolutely egregious. Speaks volumes to the fight of that team and the coaching prowess Pitino had back then for UK to have a shot to win that game.

K always worries about players remember how he jumped on Henderson for elbowing Tyler Hansbrough and how he jumped all over Allen for tripping people!! I don’t remember either!!
