Eh a majority of us really wanted him before Pope was hired. He would have been "our" a$$hole.

He could win every game and I would still be embarrassed to have him on my sideline. Throws more tantrums than my 2 year old.
Yeah, I said I wanted Hurley. He is a little crazy on the sidelines. Whines like Coach K. Glad we did not get him. Extremely happy with Coach Pope. The divine choice.
Watch any UConn game. This is what he does every single game. Same energy and jawing at the refs immediately from the opening tip. His 2 titles validate his behavior and antics.
If Hurley would've come to UK he would've had to win the national title every single season in order for us fans to put up with his antics
Fwiw, he's always been a hot head, but you (uconn) kind of put up with it because he's winning. He's going to have a long leeway from these two titles.. but his hot headed manner and bad attitude will ultimately be his down fall.
He did exactly what I saw Coach K do for all these years.. when his player fouls, he never goes to the player to chew him out, instead he goes right to the officials. That's a page right out of Ks play book. The problem is Uconn isn't Duke and Hurley doesn't have that "kiss the ring" sort of clout.

I didn't want him at the time, and glad we didn't get him. Dude is a class A jerk that can't control his emotions. That nut case has too much Bobby Knight in him. He would've have been an embarrassment. At least to me. But to each their own.

For a neutral observer, it’s really a wild display imo. His behavior(no idea on language) was deserving of multiple technicals today alone.
Yeah you could see that start seeping through last year. Saw way too many glory reads about himself and became really self aware of his greatness. Was really prickish all tourney last year.

He does now, don’t think these back to back titles won’t make it that way. He’s a Duke brother don’t forget. He also the most successful coach going as far as titles.

He deserved to be thrown out of the game long before the technical foul he received (and cost UConn the game). Just a complete asshole to the officials. Good grief.

I saw him on multiple occasions saying things to refs such as “you don’t belong here” and “you are a zero”. When you blatantly disrespect someone in their profession, sometimes they get bitter and do not favor you lol
I'm sure he can get there.. but I don't think he is yet. He's been abrasive with more than just officials and I think he's doing it too early in his career.. he's rubbing a lot of people the wrong way.
I think Hurley came back to college to go for the threepeat. When that doesn’t work out, I really wouldn’t be surprised if he jumps to the NBA.

In regards to Pope vs Hurley.. I'll start by prefacing this statement that we will *likely* never see two titles from Pope. Even two Final 4s might be more unlikely than not, over a 10-12 year span..
But.. we beat the supposed best team in the nation (Duke), and Uconn just lost to Memphis. We have a coach who might very well have a system that's just as lethal as Hurleys.. and he's able to do it with grace and humility. Which is something that can go a long way for not only recruiting, but how officiating can help (or hurt) you, media love, etc.
Too early to say I'd rather have Pope over Hurley, because Hurley has two titles and that's so hard for any coach to get.. but man, I'm close. Pope is showing all the right signs of a guy who can no only coach with the best of them, but recruit, have a modern offense, and have the tight attitude and temperament.
