CI Wrestling Thread #56

Figured I’d give GCW a second chance after they $hit the bed the other year ago in their last Hammerstein appearance. That debacle really derailed a ton of their momentum.

The card looks entertaining on paper and it only costs $9.99 for the Triller+ subscription for an entire month which gives me a bunch of non-GCW stuff to check out as well.

PCO destroyed the TNA Digital title with a sledgehammer in the preshow then they had to cut the feed because he was shootin’ lol

Most of the people in this opening 9-person doors, ladders, and chairs match look like they don’t shower. It was a decent match, your typical spot fest ladder match, basically.

I’ll give GCW credit though, this is a nice quality stream as far as resolution and bitrate go, and they did a neat video package to open the main card. When I watched two years ago it was typical indie crap video quality. And they got a mighty hot crowd. Hammerstein crowds love themselves some wrestling.

Welp second match ended in like a minute because one of the wrestlers destroyed her leg or ankle on a suicide dive. Allie Katch’s career might be over after that injury. Her leg was very much bending in a direction it is not supposed to bend.

Tony Khan is reportedly 'fed up enough' with Britt Baker that he is no longer booking her for AEW TV. This comes after a recent incident that was the 'straw that broke the camel's back.'

"She might be done with AEW. At least the feeling I'm getting from talking to people in AEW is Tony Khan might have her in the same category as some other wrestlers where they just don't get phone calls and don't get called in to show up. There is a lot of frustration with her. I'm told - and I've heard this pretty consistently - she's wildly unpopular in the women's locker room. One person said no one ever wants to see her come back, speaking of the women's locker room. Now, that is a bold broad statement. I could imagine somebody on social media going, 'I am a women's wrestler in AEW and I want her back.' Okay, fair enough, but I'm just telling you somebody's perception is nobody wants her back. That's how bad it is, somebody is willing to tell me that.

"There was the incident with her and MJF and I'm told that factors into her being off television, but there are other issues with her that have come up. She has become increasingly difficult to work with in a general sense. She has always had a reputation for being difficult to work with. There was a specific situation recently not counting the MJF situation where people just threw their hands up…It wasn't like a huge deal but it was enough to sort of be the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of just feeling like, 'You know what? We've got a strong women's division now compared to when she was on top and we don't need to deal with her if she's going to be this difficult to work with.' So that’s where they are with her.

"I am told the Adam Cole situation is not stopping her. There should be no heat on Adam Cole, he has nothing to do with her not being on TV...Obviously, she had some standout moments in AEW and became a star and was seen as a centrepiece act, but even back then I was hearing about her reputation and being unpopular in certain circles, and difficult to work with, and being fiercely territorial of her role in the company in a way that just felt unsustainable. And from what I'm hearing, at least the attitude right now at the moment, the belief is Tony Khan is fed up enough that he's just gonna focus his TV time on others. I don't know what that means in terms of her pay and her contract and it's possible eventually things will change...At this point in asking around, you should not expect to see her back imminently."

I’d guess her awful attitude would be easier to overlook if she had improved in the ring. And she has put out stinker after stinker the last couple of years.

Maybe if she goes to NXT or something, she will focus and get it together.

Drew McIntyre has given credit to CM Punk for not getting "boo boo face" by any of the shots McIntyre fired at him during their intense WWE feud last year.

"I will say, however my feelings are towards him, I went completely gangbusters on Punk. I didn't hold back. On television, I can only go so far, but, on social media, it's my socials. You can't tell me what to do and I went overboard. If the company had asked me to pull back a little bit, I'd have said, 'No, that is my social media'.

But, I went at him hard. I've done that with a couple of people, and they have got a boo boo face. Not that I care, but, he didn't. He ate it like a man, and then came back with what he had to say. So I will give him that."

(via The Daily Mail)
I think I have expressed this previously, but I believed this was collaborative and Punk was feeding McIntyre some of the stuff he used. But whether that's true or not, Drew elevated everything about himself in the last year or so, and he was already great to begin with, nothing but respect for him.

IMHO, that’s why it’s hard for him to be a real heel, as he is so damned funny on social media that you can’t help but cheer for him.

Bringing Tessa Blanchard back to TNA was a great idea.

Also looks like Jordynne Grace is WWE bound and Josh Alexander is finished with TNA as well.
Yeah TNA is going to lose a lot of people this year between contracts expiring and telling people to take a paycut.

Speedball Mike Bailey is heading to AEW as well and several other notable names have contracts expiring this year, including Joe Hendry.

But they got that "partnership" with WWE so everything is awesome!

Good for the TNA crowd. LA changed the game. America is pretty forgiving as long as you show remorse. Hogan's response years ago was basically "I have black friends, how can I be racist? Black friend, tell the people I'm not racist" and Blanchard never apologized for her remarks, spit on someone, and was apparently a locker room bully. You can hire them but fans are now using their voices to say go away pretty loudly. Maybe it's just a one time thing though.

So in 2025 Fenix, Black, Starks, and potentially Baker could land in WWE? No game changers there but they all seem pretty unhappy. Baker isn't the best but she'd likely improve in NXT. Between them, Punk begging to be let go, Wardlow's disappearances, and Miro earning Khan bucks for doing nothing, what's that say about the roster and locker room as a whole? Talent management still seems to be an issue. You shouldn't have that many people unhappy that we, fans, know about.

Advertised so far for Raw tonight

Drew McIntyre vs. Seth Rollins.
The New Day in action.
WWE Hall of Famer JBL to appear.

Wade Barrett will be calling the show with Michael Cole with Pat McAfee at the Notre Dame- Ohio State game.

Ya I’m surprised they don’t save drew/seth for SNME -the cfb game will probably draw a monster rating.

Heads up as I realized this last night and it annoyed the hell out of me...

Royal Rumble is Saturday, 2/1. Likely begins at 7:00pm. UK plays Arkansas the same day. Start time? 9:00pm.

So the one SEC game BBN has talked about since April will be on at the same time as arguably the most fun WWE PLE of the year.

There’s always going to be people who are unhappy if they aren’t being used or aren’t being used in the way the way they want to be. Same thing in sports, WWE, WCW, peak TNA, etc.

Easiest way to move up or get opportunities is to leave for a place that will provide regardless of the industry.

AEW has had a bloated roster for years. They could finally use some trimming down. If it were me I’d cut at least 25% of the roster immediately.

You just see it more often in AEW. Several talents have said there's a freezing out process as if you're being ghosted in a relationship. Miro was "difficult", as was Punk. Fenix is on ice and begging to leave, Starks is practically banned from AEW tv and Tony won't even mention his name. Black has basically been in a wrestling coma for most of his run. Baker is now a problem. It's just a lot. WWE has what, Graves? And if that was a shoot, they've kept it in-house with no leaks.

But I recognize AEW is a sink or swim place. You're there alone. Some, like Ricochet, MJF, Swerve, and Christian swim. Others sink.

Punk’s entire career has been a case study in being difficult to work with and leaving on bad terms. He quit on IWA Mid South early in his career because of what he claimed was mistreatment of Chris Hero, which Chris Hero said was a lie and just an excuse Punk used to quit. He quit on TNA. And of course his numerous problems in WWE and AEW are well known.

Fénix (and Penta), well let’s just say they have an extensive history of leaving companies on bad terms. Luchablog on Twitter (one of the preeminent social media accounts for lucha libre) even said he doesn’t have the energy to discuss yet another bad terms departure out of Fénix and Penta (linked)

And Baker has been a problem for years both on screen and backstage, it’s not must something that all of a sudden happened. She’s had multiple backstage incidents with Thunder Rosa. She’s got heat for undisclosed reasons with Jamie Hayter and Rebel (their former manager). She came off extremely poorly at times in that behind the scenes show they had the other year ago. She got backstage heat with Mariah May because May used the sling blade and apparently Britt thinks she’s the only person that’s ever allowed to use it. She got in that thing with MJF and Alicia Stout that led to her multi week suspension that derailed her program with Mercedes Mone. She constantly shits on her oppponents in promos in what seems like an attempt to bury them rather than to advance a story. She long ago developed a rep for sandbagging her opponents.

Miro - All I’ve ever heard is he rejects creative, doesn’t offer any ideas, and doesn’t want to do any jobs. Otherwise I’ve heard of no other problems with him. If he doesn’t want to do anything AEW wants him to do then no point in wasting their time on him. Teddy Long recently suggested the problem is Miro though (link).

Starks - rumors are he has rejected creative and doesn’t offer any ideas. He says that’s not true. Who is correct? Your guess as good as mine. But as Chris Jericho has said, if you reject creative then you better have some of your own ideas. Other than that I’ve got nothing. My own personal speculation is that they believe he has no interest in coming back or has said he isn’t coming back so no point in using him if that is the case.

Malakai Black - I recently read he never developed a rapport with TK. Also has had a rep for quite a long time now for not wanting to do jobs. Definitely not good enough to be demanding that. Also told people in AEW he was burned out and potentially considering retiring. Would you put much effort into a guy like that? I sure wouldn’t.

But if you think there aren’t people in WWE unhappy then you are fooling yourself. They are just acting like adults (except Corey Graves) and not going whining on social media like high school girls trying to get fired or released early.

AEW was allegedly even considering given Fénix his release until he decided to run his mouth on Twitter. Fat chance at that release happening now, I’d imagine.

AEW just picked up MVP who was basically calling Triple H a racist on social media, a sentiment that’s not exactly uncommon within the black community. Bobby Lashley said WWE was trying to bury him. Ricochet said he was tried of being a jobber. Samantha Irving quit, said she didn’t even like her job, and was tired of not being given the opportunity to do more.
