CI Wrestling Thread #56

as with many historical moments, I must bring up Meltzers original review

for socko

"McMahon was in the hospital when the nurse said there was a big visitor. McMahon freaked out thinking it was Austin, but it was Mankind giving his chocolate. McMahon was totally overacting, let alone the believability of a guy hooked up with all those tubes because they broke their ankle. Mankind said he brought a guest and McMahon freaked again thinking it was Austin. He said he was giving him some female companionship but instead it was a rather large woman dressed in a clown making a dog out of a balloon. This segment was awesome."

for the Austin bit with the bedpan

"Austin, dressed as a doctor, beat up Vince in the hospital room. It was a comedy bit with Vince getting beaten up and his underwear showing"

I may be in the minority but I like what NXT 2.0 has been doing. Lots of characters being introduced rather than “guy who is good at wrestling A” and “guy who is good at wrestling B”

Thought last week's NXT was not a good show at all but last night's wasn't bad.

Speaking of shows here's the Dynamite lineup plus they are now teasing a big announcement from Tony Khan.

Could be a trios tag title. I saw Kahn said the announcement was a “long time coming.”

Personally, I hope it’s not that, but AEW does love the trio style tag matches.

Based on a tweet looks like AEW signed Bobby Fish.
His t-shirt in the match graphic had an AEW logo on it so he’s likely been signed at least for a week.

Man, Page is still super over with the crowd. Crowd will blow whenever he kicks out of the OWA.

Black is probably my favorite thing in wrestling right now, just love his presentation. A little mini feud with Dante will be fun.

I’m just glad Tessa gets a shot. Hoping her and Scurll normalize them wrestling again and hopefully AEW signs them down the road. I loved seeing all the butthurt people when WoW revealed Tessa as the face of the promotion on Twitter. Lol

WOW is run by David McClane, who did GLOW back in the 1980's. They had a show in the 2000's then started up again a couple of years ago and ran on AXS TV. Keira Hogan and Santana Garrett are two of the women who have worked for them.

So Dynamite's streak of being the number one show ended at six last night.

1,053,000 million viewers and a .37 in the 18-49 which was fourth.

Baseball playoffs dominated the night and the Housewives of Beverly Hills beat them.

I remember GLOW. It was can't miss TV is some respects for an early teen with raging hormones like I was at the time.

Will Osperay is going to work in MLW :\
I don’t get that. Especially since he just called out omega, Punk and Danielson saying he’d wipe the floor with them.

Speaking of MLW, their tv numbers for the last couple years were released. They were kept track of by quarterly average amount of viewers. Their best quarter of viewers was Q1 of 2020 where they averaged 16,000 viewers per show. The current quarter they are averaging their lowest number of the entire time frame at 2-3,000 viewers per show.

Those numbers are mind blowing. They were put out by the network that MLW airs on I believe. And I’d never heard of the channel. It was something like “beIN” I think. If I can find the tweet with the stats I’ll post it.

I might in the minority, but Tessa Blanchard seems to be a cancer. Nobody who’s ever worked with her seems to have anything nice to say about her and I’ve yet to see anything that sets her apart from about two dozen other women in wrestling.

Besides being Tully’s daughter who was raised by Magnum TA, what’s the draw?

Ospreay is just going around and wrestling at promotions no different then Minoru Suzuki right now. We’ll see him in AEW soon enougb
Difference is Minoru is a free lancer who isn’t signed to any one promotion. Ospreay is signed to njpw. It may end up happening but it’s a bit different.

I’m just ready for this Covid crap to go away so there can be unrestricted travel and AEW/njpw can finally go all in on working together.

Not true. Tessa has a bunch of friends who will go to bat for her. Britt baker, Chelsea Green, I believe Purazzo, Swole, Sasha Banks and so on. Banks would go and train with Tessa this past year.

And if you can’t see why she’s a big deal then I don’t know what to tell ya. She’s got the name, got a good look and most importantly she can actually wrestle at a level most women will never come close to. I’m not much of a women’s wrestling fan but she’s one of a handful of women I’ll go out of my way to watch. She doesn’t wrestle like most women. Her athleticism, ability, speed and fluidity is much closer to a male wrestler. Most women look like their in slow motion in the ring.

Look up her match with Brian Cage at WrestleCircus from probably 4-5 years ago. There’s probably less than 5 women in the world who could have done what she did and it look as good as it did.
