CI Wrestling Thread #56

Rey and Andrade
Bianca, Jade, Naomi
Awesome Truth, A-Town Down Under
Jimmy Uso
Gunther
Rhea Ripley
Rock and Roman

Likely to be an all Bloodline celebration tonight then it all begins to fall apart on night two.

Pretty good Night 1.

The ending sealed it. Cody is winning tomorrow night. Had he won tonight, he would have lost Night 2.

The spear to The Rock means during interference tomorrow night the Rock will be the reason Roman Reigns loses.

Book it!

Would not surprise me to see the Rock cost Cody tomorrow to set up a match between them later.

- Shocked Sami won but maybe this means after a rematch we get Gunther beginning his climb to the main event picture and a Rumble win in '25.

- The Uso match was awful. I like the characters but all they've ever had is the superkick and seeing that given to each other about 37 times doesn't equal a good match. JC boys, branch out and learn a few new moves.

- Main event was fun and Rock proved everyone wrong. Yes, he was winded back in January but you knew he wasn't going to allow himself to look like shit at WM40. Now tomorrow night we get chaos, run-ins, and maybe the glass breaks?? (Probably not).

I'm expecting this to be some sort of dumb reenactment but even if it's the actual footage, it's (1) super weird to show it on Dynamite and (2) feels like a desperate plea for ratings since they're currently sinking. I'm honestly shocked AEW is going to give this time on one of their shows and they're turning it into a storyline...about a wrestler who hasn't been there since Sept. and is a big star in the other company. And I thought Copeland's plea for everyone to just be positive last week was cringe. This will backfire on AEW imo. Christ, what a dumb company.

The buck are doing it, so don’t expect much

I'll likely not be watching tbh. I usually change the channel when they're on now days. Punk's interview wasn't promoted by WWE, at least not him talking about his time in AEW. If Perry's character is just "I'm the guy you know because a wrestler tried to choke me and I was blamed" then that feels lazy. Mark Henry said it best months ago...if Punk was a cancer and dark cloud, now he's gone. Now it's time to move forward. Now if negatives keep happening, you can't keep blaming Punk. One week ago AEW told us to enjoy all wrestling and move on from negativity. Now we're being hyped up by news that (potentially) a backstage choking security clip from months ago showing a now WWE guy in a bad light is going to be used in a current AEW storyline. This feels like fingerpoke of doom stuff. All you can do is laugh at AEW going back to the CM Punk well for a ratings pop when Ospreay, Okada, Mone, Joe, Swerve, Copeland, etc. can't do it for them.

This is why internet marks shouldn’t run wrestling companies. Every decision AEW makes is based on emotions/trying to pop the smarks. Ratings down. Ticket sales down. Product is very indie-riffic right now. What do they do?

Instead of focusing on their own business, the front office got so upset over an interview from a disgruntled former employee that they had to send guys out to cut rah rah promos and are now dredging up old footage involving a guy who’s been off TV for 7 months and a guy who’s been in the other company for 5 months.

If that footage isn’t brutally violent, Tony’s claims of fearing for his life will make him out to be a little bitch. (I’m sorry tribalists. That was very toxic and problematic of me to say.)

It has internet fans buzzing on WWE's most important day of the year and both companies do jab each other occasionally but I tend to agree. I just don't care if Punk started it or if he's been an asshole to a handful of other wrestlers. I find him engaging and entertaining, so I'm a fan. I liked the attitude change in Perry before the drama but his character can't just be Punk glass Punk glass scapegoat glass Punk choke glass. And what will happen? Maybe Dynamite ends up with an 810K avg. instead of a 750K avg. for one week and that's it. Punk's interview is going to invoke a two week response from AEW programming. That's absurd lol.

Isn’t that why you have “locker room leaders” wouldn’t edge/christian/jake/samoa joe tell them that this is counterproductive or I guess you let the idiots run the asylum and let the clown show continue.

Gunther vs. Zayn was great as expected, match of the night and nothing was even remotely close to it.

Uso vs. Uso resembled what everyone who has never seen a Young Bucks or a indie match says a Young Bucks or an indie match looks like.

Jade looked like the same wrestler she was in AEW.

The IWC after All In: release the tapes
The IWC today: releasing the tapes is ****ing stupid

Never change.
One caveat - releasing the tape on Dynamite several months after the fact as an angle when the most important person in said tape is in the other company as a top star is stupid. It's trying to have the beginnings of a storyline which includes Punk when he's not there. It would almost be like one of the women not so subtly calling out Jade in storyline. She's not there; she's not returning.

Rarely should a wrestling company listen to the IWC because we're largely marks who fantasy book and if given the opportunely we'd probably tank an AEW or WWE within two months.

I missed two predictions last night. Couldn't imagine Gunther losing and Jimmy kind of sucks without Jey so I thought they'd give him the big WM win.

Picks for tonight:
Lashley and Street Profits
LA Knight
Logan Paul
Bayley
Drew
Cody

I understand Paul winning to keep his fans interested, but there isn’t a situation I see anyone but Randy winning that match.

You have to make his character significant again somehow.

I agree with these - guess Gunther now goes on to main event scene

Wonder if they have priest try to cash in tonight

I’ve wondered that, but Drew/Punk need that title to be at stake. And Cody isn’t walking out without a strap.

Plus Priest feuds right now are………..who is he feuding with again?
