CCC couldn't help himself! He has found...

It’s the correct take.

The first move, yes. But we have emphasized ball movement and ahead minimized the “weave” that we’ve reverted back to.

We have cut our 3pt attempts in half over the last 2 games.

Midrange has increased.

Post ups have increased.

We have ran more circle O / “dribble drive”the last 2 games which is 1on1 heavy and drive kick drive kick. That’s bc the 2 guys that style compliments are the 2 guys that “need to get going” and were projected to be our best players. Wagner and Edwards have became the focal of the offense again when you play that way. They weren’t for the first 7 games.

Edwards and Wagner aren’t scrubs. They’re very good players. That’s not a knock on them bc all players have strengths and weaknesses. Downhill drives/one on one/physical are their strengths. We have enough talent on this team that we can still be very good this season playing that way. But that’s why the offense and style of play “looks different” the past 2 games.

I’d you don’t understand intricacies of basketball beyond ball watching then you won’t see it. You’re a notorious Cal defender so it’s your default to defend. But that’s the reality. He is doing what’s best for Wagner and Edwards to “get them more involved” and play to their strengths bc he believes that’s what is best for the team long run and it’s what’s best for the individuals.
I don't defend cal... I despise the Debby downers of the board and give a different take. That's why it comes across that way.
This team is on pace to score about 90 today. How many do you want them to score?

I'll do what I want. I was responding to a post. If you can't handle posting during a rough game, be an adult and stay off during games.
Lol you asked what I thought you should do.
Rough? We were 13 point favorite and will probably win by 15 or more while scoring 90. It's far from rough

Post ups have not increased.
We posted up every game this season every trip down the floor. Mitchell has been awful of late and our defense can't stop a fly
Defense has been average to below all year. The difference is we aren’t performing as efficiently or explosively offensively. So the question is “why”.

This isn’t a pissing match. I’m not trying to argue with you. I’ve helped with film breakdown on a team that was in the final 4 last season. Go through my post history and find it if you want. I can send proof and write ups from it over email if you need it. I try not to mention it much bc “insiders” always get met with a ton of nonsense. Never claimed to be an insider…just that I was fortunate enough to be around a program that played above expectations last season.

Our offensive strategy and emphasis has been adjusted. That’s fact. The “why” is conjuncture based of Cal’s own words in the past. But obviously the “why” is my opinion. Cal himself has said “glad we got that out of the way (in regards to a championship), now we can focus on these kids”

We have enough talent on this team that it may overcome and still win #9 or a F4. And I’ll be ecstatic. But this level of talent isn’t the norm. We had 4 nba players on last years team that are playing and still failed… our 9 win team also had 3-4 NBA guys. That’s why ppl are in “show me” mindset

I think they want to play inside out but Penn hitting them with a zone and out interior players are making every decision about 1-2 seconds too late. This is more about what Penn is doing rather than what Kentucky is doing. Welch should be earning his money at halftime.
Coaching, coaching...it's sure good CCC can recruit.

Penn physically looks like a high school team. Playing four unathletic guards all no taller than 6’3” together …yet we still can’t break free of them.

It’s frustrating.
It‘s frustrating when we play our 6 draft picks against exponentially weaker talent and we can see how they are better prepared and skilled at basketball than we are.

The teams at UNCW and Penn have been playing together in a system for 3-4-5 years. On our team, only Reeves and Thiero have ever played together in Cal's system, period and it is but early December. We are deep and talented. We crushed Miami by 20+ two weeks ago. We will be fine.

Oh I understand that. I'm not arguing with you either. We have definitely been worse the past couple seasons and it was basically because we didn't have anyone that could drive on their man, while playing in an offense designed for that play. That's on cal. This years team has a lot of talent but we are very raw in several key areas. The only thing I see that has changed comes from the team we are playing. Both games the defenders are playing tight D and in passing lanes as soon as we start our offense. Very smart on both coaches to watch film and have their guys play tighter. It disrupts the whole offensive flow if DJ can't make that first pass cleanly. He would pass it and immediately take off , they would swing the ball and drive through the lane creating an open jumper somewhere... Well if he can't make that pass you are looking at 4/5 seconds longer to start the offense. We've turned the ball over much more than we were Aswell.

Sure cal was relieved to win in 2012. No way that means he doesn't care about winning more.

Cal literally said they are throwing the ball inside more. Any other ways you want to be wrong sir?
One pass doesn't change the way they are playing. But you took that comment like this
We are throwing the ball inside more and out big men are trying to create offense from there. Lol see the difference
Ok I may be wrong, instead of throwing it to Reeves first they may be throwing it to Mitchell and then he passes to Reeves
One of the big issues... Mitchell has very average hands and awful feet.. he just does. When he's not making his jump shots it's not very pretty

Round all of yourselves up and just jump RRR's

Maybe you loons haven't noticed but we've repeatedly gotten outrebounded...why you think that is, geniuses?

I'm glad this board, the RRR's, aren't a sample of the actual fanbase

Is it possible the coaching staff got arrogant thought we “should” beat UNC Wilmington & Penn so they tailored the offense to get Wagner and Edwards going especially in a homecoming game scheduled to play near their families? I’m hoping that the Miami offense returns for UNC.
It’s not possible. So, no.

Idk man he had a really nice up and under move. He's got an array of offensive mkves.

I appreciate the cordial and mature conversation.

Cal himself in the post game just said he has made an intentional effort to play slower / grind it out.

That leaves the question being “why?” And if it’s permanent or if he’s just trying to make them good at both styles for any situation in March. But he has played a different style the last 2 games and it cost us a W at home against UNCW.

I hope and want to believe it’s well intended to prepare the team for any style. But his “I may play Burks at the 3” comments and history makes me feel as tho it’s about his preferred style of play surrounds size, defense, rebounding margin in combo with getting Wagner and Edwards downhill and more of a focal point. So we are likely to see this style the rest of the year with a flash here or there of “what use to be”. Cal just isn’t comfortable shooting 25+ threes a game and not just the anomaly.

Luckily this team is Uber talented and I’m hoping we can be a F4 team in a semi down CBB year no matter how we play.

Up until the last two games, we had been shooting over 40% of our shots from 3. In the last 2, we've taken less than 30 from 3. I hope this is just a blip and not the beginning of a season long trend. Our 3 point shooting rate was a part of why we looked like Cal's best offensive team ever.

Stop dropping knowledge on these guys whose only purpose on this board is defending Cal and attacking anyone who doesn't. Pearls before swine.

This! We hadn’t ran that BS weave all season until last two games. Like you said, we are attempting to post to both AB and Tre and slowing down the offense. Neither one are good post players. Also, the first 7 games we were shooting 25+ 3s a game. Now, it’s like 15 3s a game.

Yep! And we played completely different against Miami than we have the past 2 games. That’s kinda the point.

This.

My question to all the Cal lovers is this: which style of basketball do you think was better? The style we saw games 1-7 or the style we’ve seen over the last 2?

Write you out a list of pros and cons if you need to but I want a straight answer.

The last two games we've been working Bradshaw into games. I'll wait till UNC before I go crazy. I missed the UNC WILMINGTON game so that could shade my view. I'm not a Cal lover or hater. I'm just a UK fan whose glad to be home watching them.

Patented CCC slow ball. Winner of nothing Loser of..... 38-0, multiple final fours, 1st round losses, 9 win teams ....
Hot diggity dog I love seeing it! ,, 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯✔️

How much are we supposed to be down against an Ivy League school?

How much do you understand about college bball? Penn beat Villanova and has played every team they lost to very close so far this season UNTIL today. They are 5th in the nation shooting the 3. Penn is an experienced and talented team. They gave us a game and yeah we should have pulled away earlier. But, they are a decent team and gave us a game early in the season. I don't understand why our posters don't understand that?

They looked better their first game when they were working everybody into the game. I was elated watching them for the first 7 games. They looked incredible.

Hopefully, it’s like you said, but I’ve seen too many seasons to suggest otherwise to do anything other than hope for the best and expect the worst.
