CBS Preseason Top 25

So these teams didn't win the trophies? They don't give them away. I'm assuming you are saying(just assuming) that you are saying UK has been the best team most of these years? If so, that makes this even worse.

I'm just going to assume you don't actually follow college basketball if you think the best team has won the championship the past 5 years.

This has been a nice chat. Have a blessed day.

Guys , read CBS sports report on after draft news teams stocks! lol Has UK and DUKE as down!! read it halarous!! I can see us but not you guys . The only thing I see as a potential weakness with your team is?shooting. I also think your athletes are going to overwhelm most opponents. I am a Duke fan that actually loves what Cal has done and has been consistently excellent!

I happen to be one of those people that believes that if you play a team head to head and they beat you... then they are the better team. Yes, someone may have better talent , but that dosen't mean they have the better team. And I have been watching and following college basketball since you were probably in diapers. You have a blessed day as well.

True to a point. We are "replacing" Mason with Newman (top 5 kid in his class), Lucas with Udoka, Bragg (non-factor) with Preston, and Jackson (our biggest loss) with Cunliffe (top 35 in a strong class who played out of position at ASU), a year more mature Svi and a year more mature Vick. Plus Garrett off the bench.

So, replacing a Senior NPOTY with a sophomore-to-be who averaged 11pg, is what, a wash? And a Senior big who you guys were constantly talking up, but now a guy who played less than half a season and averaged 5 and 4 is also an improvement? You guys are the kings of spin.

Mich St and AZ they never win in March, give me UK all day. We may never even lose a game.

Yep. And play his way into consideration for the draft.

Has Self landed a more talented transfer named Vick in the last day or so that i don't know about? If it's the same Vick that was on KU's roster last season, i would be shocked if that kid played his way into being drafted talk. That is a huge leap. You guys lost some major talent. That doesn't always mean you will suck the following year, but when you lose that type of talent, you better hope you bring in the same type of elite talent to replace them or it very well could mean you will suck. Self is a pretty good coach, so i doubt KU sucks next year. I also don't think it would be a total shock if Green was the better player at point guard during the UKvsKU game. I have really never been that impressed with Graham to be honest. The big dude you guys have playing in the frontcourt looks like a monster. Too bad looks don't produce wins. The best thing for Self and KU for next year would be to actually finally lose the big 12 league title so we can stop hearing about KU and Self winning their 50th league title straight. At some point, you guys have to learn that while it's nice and cool, it really doesn't mean much heading into the NCAA tourney and might actually mean you guys don't get tested that much during league play. I liked Newman when Cal recruited the kid and thought he might be a future star, but at this moment, i don't think that is going to happen anytime soon. I'm not saying the kid is going to suck. Newman will probably be a good player under Self, but won't be the star type of talent i once thought his upside might mean. If it turns out that kid is your best player, i don't like KU's odds of going that far once the NCAA tourney starts. Looking at the KU roster, i see a team that will make the NCAA tourney, but not top 3 nationally good. When we play KU, Self will lose his mind trying to figure out how to match-up with what Kentucky has on the floor. Knox will end up with a career high game if SVI is the dude trying to guard him. Looking at your roster, i don't see a single player that could guard Knox straight up. I could be wrong, but doubt it. Good luck to Self and KU! If it weren't for the talent Preston brings to the floor, i probably wouldn't even consider KU a tourney team. Luckily Self won't allow the kid to showcase his true talent his freshman season.

Call me arrogant or whatever, but KU's roster doesn't scare me. Now they may definitely beat us in November, but I just don't see them making a deep run in March. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone:

Newman
Graham
Svi
Vick
Azubike
Billy Preston
Lightfoot

The Lawson brothers and the other 2 transfers won't be eligible next year anyway. Am I missing anything?
Whatever, arrogant.

We're replacing players with players. We don't have to be better than last year's team, we have to be better than this year's college teams. We won't even play the same 4 and 1 offense either. This year the clear cut frontrunners based on talent, experience and depth appear to be UA, MSU, KU.

Your turn: Do you think Kentucky is going to be better than last year? I believe you returned one player who saw limited time in Gabriel, and two players who DNP-Coach's Decision in SKJ and Wynard because of all the talent ahead of them that is gone?

You're clearly a passionate fan of your team, but you really do not know how any of these kids will play next year. They could individually each have the impact of Anthony Davis or they could each have the impact of Skal. Given the strength of this class, outside of Diallo, Vanderbilt (who I think is way underrated) and Knox (if he plays the 4) I think the rest of your squad has multi-year players which means they won't start to have a big impact until year 2 or 3.

As far as KU is concerned, Newman played out of position and through injuries his freshman year and still averaged what, 11 points per game as a freshman? He'll play off the ball at KU and shine. I can't help you if you aren't impressed with Graham, the rest of the basketball community is, but you cannot seriously think that Green is going to be a better player next year. If Knox plays his natural position - the 4 - then Preston is talented enough to match-up with him. If he plays the 3 or 2, he'll struggle mightily like he did when he tried to play the 3 in high school. Self says Udoka has the talent and physical tools to be one of the best bigs he's coached, not named Embiid. He was starting before he got injured last year.

Lastly, players improve every year and some more than others - Buddy Hield, Frank Mason, etc., etc., etc. That's why experience and talent wins titles. I expect Gabriel and SKJ to be starters because of that at Kentucky next year for the entire year.

Not at the beginning of the season no. But I'm not the one spinning like a dreidel.

I'll admit, I had to look up what a dreidel was. I don't know what I'm spinning. I'm giving an opinion based on observable historical evidence of what happens every year when talent is replaced with talent and when existing talent stays in school and improves. Those teams win and compete for titles.

Kentucky will lose some games they shouldn't at the beginning of the year, but by the end of the year will be a much improved team. I don't think you have the point guard play to challenge for a title, but Calipari teams play tough tough defense and that could carry Kentucky farther than offense next year.

Speaking in terms of winning NC

I've got no idea, I think we'll be one of 5 who could win it, but I believe UK is too young most years to win it even if we should.

But the other side to that coin is, that could still mean 3 titles in 10-12 years. We're that talented most of the time.

The team that is by far the most overrated is UNC . KU has a very average roster but Graham can really make shots . Duke will be like Duke was this season IMO . MSU , UK ,Zona and Witchita St are the best teams.
Mich St, Arizona and UK Yes!!!! Kansas, WS and Duke no....

You guys don't usually have to worry about post-season either, amirite?

NCAA tournament records since 2000:

KU: 45-17

UK: 40 - 15

Both teams have 1 championship and 4 final fours in that time frame. Yes, KU has lost some games and choked but don't act like your post season success over the past 17 years is any better than ours!

PS: You have missed the tourney twice in that time frame!

I responded to a question about the Kansas roster. No, Preseason Polls are not that important. I can't speak on the OP's thought process on why or why not he would disagree. Vegas odds, maybe. But a CBS Preseason Poll in May, I would rather talk about Schwagg's prized cauliflower or pig or whatever he brings to the County Fairs.
rC it's not just a crappy cola drink

I know two things for sure:

Kentucky will be playing its best ball by March.

&

Kansas will poop down its leg in the NCAA Tournament.

But by all means get excited about another wonderful regular season.

Since 2000. :joy:

Yes, lets include Tubby and Billy Clyde but cut things off right after our big run.

I have no clue why Kansas fans insist on talking so much ish. It blows my mind. If I was a Kansas fan, I'd be avoiding this conversation as much as possible.

You are choke artists. Every year, you hype and then disappoint. Even last year, you got blown out.

Shut up and get the hell out of here.

First off, I won't "get the hell out of here" and I was not talking ish. Just stating facts. This is the best basketball board, outside of the slant, I have found. I enjoy reading the variety post over here. It is an extremely knowledgeable fan base with your typical crazies.

2nd, I would love to have the amount of championships you guys have. Also, I do not consider the helms titles to be on the same level as NCAA championships.

So if I do include your "big run" you have 3 titles in the past 38 years and KU has 2. You win!

It just seems like KU gets a bad wrap when it comes to the post season and the numbers say otherwise. We have been pretty damn good over the past two decades, as have you guys!

Have a good Memorial Day weekend. Thanks to all of those who have served.

Nice comeback all the way around. Have a good weekend yourself.

Well, several of those players were on the team and played when they beat a better UK team at Rupp this past season.

Lucas had 13
Graham had 12
Svi had 8
Coleby had 3
Vick had 2
Lightfoot had 0
Mason and Jackson had 21-20 and they are both gone.

Granted, everyone who played for UK except Wenyen are also gone, the difference is UK is replacing all five starters with top 25 recruits, while Kansas is replacing Mason with a 4 star, and Jackson with Preston....and their bench, which was not good, didn't get any better.

Fox- Replaced with Quade Green (downgrade)
Monk Replaced with Hami (Unsure)
Briscoe-replaced with Knox (Upgrade at SF)
Willis- Replaced with Washington (Upgrade)
Adebayo- Replaced with Richards (Downgrade)
Hawkins- replaced with Alexander (likely upgrade)
Mulder- Replaced with Baker (likely upgrade)
Wenyen- Is Wenyen
SKJ- is SKJ
Humphries- replaced with Vanderbit (Upgrade)

I disagree with the "beat a better UK team" comment, they beat a UK team that had a better PG and Center...UK is likely the same at 2g, and improved at SF/PF/HUGE bench improvement. If you say, beat a UK team with two better players...I can agree with that, even then..Adebayo was a PF playing Center, and he is a borderline second rounder...Nick Richards may be a better natural 5, and could possibly bubble the first round after one year as well. Nick seems to have better post moves, his turn around one hander looks smoother, and he can actually shoot the ball from 5 feet out...also, Bam seemed to have small hands issues or something, he fumbled the ball a TON...so how much of a downgrade Richards is at the five is debatable.

I'll admit, I had to look up what a dreidel was.

This displeases Larry..

Last 10 years?
Last 20 Years?
Last 30 years?
All time?
Current Coaches?
Since the NCAA tourney expansion to 64 teams?
Yeah, you can do "last 17 years" and make it favor Kansas...most people do multiples of 5's or 10's... Louisville fans like to start at 1980...

What exactly has Miller done with top recruiting classes by the way? What has izzo done without those top recruiting classes?

What has Izzo done with top recruiting classes? Sucked!

Besides preseason rankings are not based on your coaches past accomplishments.

Preseason rankings are normally based on:
1. returning talent

2. The accomplishments of that talent

3. Incoming talent

Arizona returns most of their scoring from a team that had a great year, & was capable of winning it all last year. They add a top 3 HS player & 3 4-star players.

Michigan St. sucked last year & shouldn't even have received a bid to tourney & would not have if not or Izzo factor. I'm sorry....this isn't hard > Zona should be rated higher in ANY preseason poll.
