Vandy got the win. Something interesting... we have 6 weekends of SEC play after this one. Only one team of those 6 currently has a winning record in the SEC, and that's USC at 6-5. I guess I didn't really notice it before, but it is strange that we spent the first 4 weekends playing 3 teams from the west. Would be great to see UK get this weekend from MSU and TAMU take 2 from Auburn.
If we can get this series on the road, the Missouri series will be very interesting. They started, flying high, but they were flying on the strength of a pretty weak SOS. Now, they appear to have really hit a wall. They swept Alabama but Alabama appears to be pretty bad. They lost 2 out of 3 against Arkansas and all three against Florida at home and have split with Georgia on the road this weekend. Maybe they aren't that good or maybe Florida and Arkansas are. At least after this weekend, the race for SEC champion will be more clear.
We don't play Auburn or Arkansas this year, the top two in the west. However, preseason rankings had Auburn T#6 and Arkansas #5. They had UK T#4 and Missouri 7. They had safe picks of Florida #1 and South Carolina #2 in the East. This is really a tossup season so far. Maybe some of those teams we faced early like Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Texas A&M are not living up to preseason rankings is due to playing Kentucky?
I'm really happy with the win yesterday even if it was pretty lucky and could have gone either way at different points in the game, it didn't and I'll take it. I know I didn't expect Kentucky to be tied for the SEC lead at this point. I was worried at the pitching coming into the season, the early injuries to key offensive players, the unbalanced roster. It just goes to show you that the team personality that Mingione is molding is pretty powerful.
BTW Missouri has the 2nd lowest SOS in the SEC right now. Who has the worst? Arkansas... Maybe they're getting ready to get closer to their preseason ranking of #5 in the west. Interesting that Alabama has the next lowest SOS at 69, then Auburn at 53. Who has Alabama played? Missouri, @South Carolina, Arkansas, and now @Ole Miss..
