Cats v. Auburn (Saturday)

We just lost the series to the worst team in the SEC. At this point I almost want to lose every game so maybe it will wake up the UK administration and they'll fire the moron of a manager that we've had for much too long.
UNBELIEVABLE, blow a 5-0 lead with your ace throwing and wind up getting blown out.

Please, please, please be true (and I hate it that I'm rooting against us)

This team will not win 3 SEC games the rest of the year!

It wouldn't surprise me to see UK actually take a series from either South Carolina or Ole Miss. That's just how we seem to be. Lose the easy ones and then win the hard ones. I think it is actually that against the best teams they don't feel the pressure to win. They go out and play. When they play teams they should beat they feel the pressure to beat them and play tighter and end up losing. Just a theory though.

If we make the NCAA tournament he won't be fired. For some reason the powers that be think that is a good accomplishment. It's not. It should be expected. Maybe if we just get an embarrassing second half the athletic director will wake the hell up.

Why not ...they don't have a snowballs chance in hell of making the tourney any with the schedule they have left...now in ninth place

I think we still have a pretty solid chance of making the NCAA tournament. We were a two seed before the weekend. If we finish at .500 the rest of the games then I think we make the tournament. That puts at 15-15 in the league. That will likely be enough to get us in the tournament. The question is... how do we split the last 10 games? If we win the Missouri series (not exactly positive that we will), and then get a win from Auburn, Ole Miss, and USC then we get to 5 wins and .500. That means that we have to win a series and we have to avoid get swept. We then improve our resume with the results in the SEC tournament. I think we are in the tournament right now... will we play our way out of it or continue to keep ourselves in?

Very disappointing season, but then again, that has been the norm for UK under Henderson. The biggest surprise was that via smoke and mirrors, we somehow managed to be ranked 12th in the country for a week or so until reality set in.

Henderson won't be going anywhere as long as Mitch is around. Barnhart basically forced Cohen to hire Henderson as an assistant when he was named head coach.

Good reply and oh so true...once again we were following fools gold...not nearly as optimistic as cb3

A change is way over due it should have been made a couple of years ago. Reminds me of Kieth Madison who coached us from 1979 thru 2003.

If UK is truly (believe it when a shovel is in the ground)building a new stadium then we need someone in here that can bring some enthusiasm to the fan base and the return of GH is not going to do that..

Hey now... let's not skew this the wrong way. At this point, I kind of want us to lose. I'm so tired of Henderson that I'll take a bad year if it means he's gone. So, if we win 50 percent of the remaining league games it's actually kind of a bad thing to me. Lol.

I think if we fail to make the tournament this year then it's a disaster. You have three weekend pitchers and all three of them are likely going in the first 5 rounds and yet we can do no better than 9th in the SEC (at this point). That is inexcusable. Once again, our team ERA is 8th in the SEC, despite having that talent. If I am Barnhart this has to be the year that is blatantly obvious. Our weakness has always been our pitching despite the fact that our damn coach is supposed to be some sort of damn pitching guru. We have a whole lot of next level talent on this team and yet we're unable to even finish in the top half of the SEC in pitching. If that doesn't wake up the powers that be then freaking nothing will.

UK has been horrific offensively and then finally breaks out for an early 5 run lead and then the pitching falters enough to get beaten by 4 runs.

Disappointing, albeit not surprising, late season slide. It's tough to envision the Cats making the NCAA tournament with strong Carolina and Ole Miss teams left and considering the already tumbling RPI.

Brent Ingram just tweeted out that if UK goes 5-4 rest of the year, then UK is a lock for the tournament. Where does he say 5 wins coming from? That would require winning two out of the next three series and I have zero confidence that can or will happen. Even if they do, what good does it? A first round exit? A contract extension for the best pitching coach in the SEC? More half ass excuses on why we can't hit caliber pitching. It's mind boggling that we beat Florida 2 out 3. I have been a season ticket holder since 2009 but I'm to the point as long as #20 is in the dugout, my weekends will not be spend at Cliff Hagan Stadium.

For as far as UK is behind the rest of the SEC in baseball today, they'd be light years behind without Madison. He had zero help from the athletic department.

What Keith Madison done is nothing short of amazing. But there are days where I feel like UK is in no better shape than it was then.

Well we could technically sweep Missouri and then just take one of the games against South Carolina and Ole Miss each. However, I think it's very possible that going 4-5 gets us in as well. A lot of the leagues are very weak this year and that may help us to get in.

I have a story coming soon with an in-depth look at Madison's contributions and how UK still lacks severely (seems obvious) from the rest of the conference in terms of facilities. It's finished, but it is going to receive some more editing before running.

It's lengthy, but I think the readers of this board will find it interesting.

I'm looking forward to it. I will say this, UK is not just behind on facilities, they are behind in every aspect of what it takes to have a successful program. UK is a basketball school in a football/baseball conference. Until that mind sight changes, UK will never see the success of those two programs.

Keith Madison probably did more with less than any coach ever at UK. He didn't get a whole lot of help from the athletic dept. And if the NCAA tournament was 64 teams instead of 48, he would have had at least 3 more NCAA appearances.

Was surprised by that Brent Ingram tweet on multiple levels. He seemed confident UK would squeeze out another 5 league wins, and that's tough to envision given that they've dropped three series in a row and they can't seem to put all phases together. I suppose UK is now in the spot of simply scratching and clawing to get into the tournament, but eventually, expectation levels need to be higher. They need to be playing their way into a position to host on occasion. Playing in the UofL regional would be much better than missing the tournament yet again, but it would be tough sledding.
