I like this guys game. I'm hoping he'll decide to be a Wildcat.

He would be a good one to have on our young team next season. I think we get Smith and Johnson. I'm not sure about Baker. I would love to have all 3 but I'd say it will be Smith and Johnson. We will be fine come tourney time!

This would be excellent news if he commits to us. Johnson in addition to smith or baker would be very satisfying. I think I'm starting to lean towards smith. Like his size and his game.

Only schools on that list that might compete with us are Arizona and the up and coming South Carolina. Given our track record with the NBA, it'll probably be U.K.
This is great news. We could put him out there as a2! BTW, I think Smith goes to the Spartans but we'll see. I have the feeling that he will develop into an excellent player. At first glance Smith reminds me of a better shooting version of the Harrison's without their other significant skills..

Don't know much about this guy. I'm assuming he's eligible to play next year??

If UK lands Bamba, Johnson and Smith that would make some of these way-too-early rankings suddenly look a lot more accurate. Instant contender, if you get Johnson and frankly either Bamba or Bam returns (former more likely).

I have a hard time believing Calipari would pursue a grad transfer unless he knew he had a really good chance.

It's so impressive to me when a kid can play major Division I basketball and graduate in 3 years. Talk about 100% dedication. UK has had 2 scholarship players graduate in 3 years that played for Cal...PPat and Poythress...both great guys! Excited about the possibility of bringing this guy on.

Agree with Rowland. Johnson is the perfect fit because he's already shot 40+% from three in a high major conference, against good competition, so he's less of a question mark that Smith or Baker would be immediately. The good thing is that getting Johnson would put less pressure on Smith to be *good* (as in not a total non-contributor) early, if we got them both. Plus it's always a shock for guys to adjust to defense when they go up a level. Won't be for him.

At that point Smith (if we got him) would become icing on the cake.

Johnson's size is the most intriguing thing to me. 6'8" -- with that release? I'm not a 'hype all things UK' guy but I would wager pretty confidently that he's never gotten the types of open shots he would get with this crew next year.

Guy is basically a PERFECT fit for what Kentucky needs next year. IMO, he is the absolute best case scenario for next year's team but it seems like Smith really likes Kentucky a ton so best-case scenario is you get both, lean heavily on Johnson next year and build Smith up longer-term.
This is precisely what I hope happens.

Hopefully we can get the guys Cal wants. Love to have a 6'8" shooting guard. Now if we can get Bamba we will be fine.

What I've gleaned from disgruntled Pitt fans is that Johnson apparently doesn't play much defense, but neither did Booker. I think it's safe to say Cal will fix that if anyone can. He looks to have decent athleticism, so no reason why he can't improve.

He apparently is inconsistent as well. Disappears in some games. Sound familiar? Good news is, we would have enough depth to overcome that, but sounds like he needs to work on his motor. If he comes to UK though, I would think it's because he realizes it's his best shot at getting exposure and getting a shot at the NBA, so I'd be surprised if he didn't show up ready to put in work.

So you don't think it's an either or situation? Wow. So UK could get both of these kids and maybe Bamba? Cal recruits like chess and everybody else is playing checkers it seems....:D

I don't expect him to contribute as much people seem to think. Not sure why people who thinks a team that went 16 - 17 and not their best player will all of sudden become this game changer for us.

I think Johnson and Smith will be a nice practice body for our other players next year. Which is good too. I rather our starter go against talented DI player than a walk ons.

Love it. He's essentially a senior by years and has two years left. Exactly the kind of steady, experienced guy we need. Even if he's not scoring, he can be a steady voice in practice and tight games. If Cal can't make a competent defender out of a smart, 6'8" guy, then nobody can.
