Cats / A&M for the series (Game 3)

big fifth for UK. Ended up plating four runs and now lead 8-2. The unfortunate part is they left em loaded as Brown struck out after being up 3-1 in the count.

cats up 8-2 going to bottom of 7. Aggies finally found a reliever that we can't figure out.

Cleaver was amazing today. 105 pitches. gave up 2 runs on 3 hits. Hope our bullpen can close it out.

Wow great end of game fireworks. When did A&M become so unlikable ? Whined relentlessly during the basketball game. Now due to SEC rules no inning could start after 4:30 and UK players went to mound for a TO to kill the last 45 seconds with 2 outs. A&M coach barks at CNM. You were down 10-5! Glad UK took the series.

Good series win for UK, at least kept our head above water.

As for the 4:30 thing, I could definitely understand the A&M ire if it was a 1 run game, but down 5 runs, you look like a D bag arguing about it, BEST case scenario is that you come to bat in the bottom of the 9th down 5 runs, and even then, only if UK doesn't score in the top of the 9th.

In fairness, we would all be hating any opposing team that was guilty of our time-wasting antics yesterday. It was the smart move, and I support it but any opposing fanbase would hate it.

I hope UK wins games but if you take a non partial view it is bush league. There was the team mound visit without a coach, a phantom 'pitch com issue' after that even though they used that the prior inning, etc. Honestly, the rule is stupid in this day and age. Now that online work for school is so prevalent the idea you have to be back in a time to be in class the next day doesn't even apply. I have a family member that plays d1 baseball in a good conference and everything this semester is online for them because of the travel. And tam not starting the game earlier is still on them.

Look, Tony Vitelli rubs a lot of people wrong for his 1000 percent intensity and some antagonistic behaviors along the way. mingione similarly isn't liked much by the coaching fraternity for having a history of '12u travel ball' type managing. The orchestrated women's softball cheers at the most disrespectful times and some things like that are frowned upon. So I assume it's not just this that's under the skin it's the accumulation of other things and this on top of it that gets them going. And of course tam has the underlying frustration of laying a turd of a season so far to add to the mix.

I agree, Mingione is not well liked and some of it is due to the behavior of the team, but I also have to think a small part is that at least the last 2 years we have become winners and other fans can't stand UK beating them when we used to be a doormat.

Maybe some and probably naive to say otherwise but these feelings aren’t new and existed prior to the last couple of seasons. In bb circles he’s just generally seen as a bit pompous and sort of a guy that doesn’t necessarily match the image he works on…. then the team antics started ramping up a couple of years before they started winning. And I’ve posted this before but it has hurt them in hs recruiting over the years because the travel org guys have had issues with what they perceive as arrogance. Even in the audio of the game Sunday the tam announcers referenced him doing some nonsense years ago although they didn’t get into specifics. My intent isn’t to crack on him but it’s a real/honest thing out there. I know multiple people in the baseball world that have dealt with him/his various staffs in independent situations across the southeast over the years. There are also Ky baseball people along the way that have just been rubbed wrong. The guy has put some things together in this transfer portal era and kudos for it but there were legit reasons other than being the northernmost sec school they struggled the old way for many a season.

Agree with all of this. Hopefully winning cures all, and he is able to rehab his image a bit, but he has definitely played a part in building the reputation that he has.

I recall him admitting in an interview last year that he had to change some things, including how he recruited and other off field stuff in order to become successful.

I think he sobered up after the poor records up until 2 years ago and realized he was on thin ice keeping his job.

To piggy back on this, let's not forget this is his first head coaching job. It's not like he was a finished product the first few years. You learn through experience. There is a lot to say for admitting your weaknesses and seemingly addressing them.

Let me add one thing, A&M was asked again Saturday night about moving the game up and again declined. UK broke no rules, didn't fake an injury or anything else. Theoretically, a pitch could never have been thrown in the inning. Just keep taking timer violations. Imagine the spot Mingione would be in if they rushed through the inning then A&M comes back in the ninth, especially if one win is the difference in a regional bid.

Darren Hedrick made a point of saying that Texas A&M was using stall tactics earlier in this game. If they ran up against the curfew limit they have to look in the mirror!!

All of the crying is overkill. If you've been around SEC baseball for a minute you understand what kind of tricks teams use to gain an advantage. Anybody remember LSU's rain delay from a couple of years ago?? Some tricks are more egregious than others it just depends which side of the diamond you're on!
