...to play such chippy basketball. He's 6'5", strong, a good shooter, an excellent rebounder, and plays with a lot of heart. Unfortunately, watching the replay of today's game, it's a wonder a few UK players weren't seriously hurt. Carrera lost his cool on a lot of occasions, pushed after plays were over no fewer than ten times, and generally played like a bull in a china shop.

I always relish the opportunity for UK to play the very best. I love it when UK goes up against game opponents. By contrast, I hope I never again have to cross paths with guys who are injuries waiting to happen, regardless of how talented they are. Carrera today was in that latter group. Hope it was just frustration over getting throttled and not something that's going to injure someone.

I hate him because he's on another team. But we need a guy like that every year. He hates to lose. Every player should hate to lose. If you're getting beat you should play angry. Or dirty or whatever. I want a kid like Boogie every year. A player who plays angry. A player who'd rather kill somebody than to lose a game. And I want every kid on our team to have a win at all cost mentality. I want swag man. And an in your face style. I wanna see every player we have stare the opponent down after a big dunk or a big 3.

There is a difference between being an enforcer and just straight up playing out of control. I have no problem that the kid utterly hates to lose. I have a big problem that he started playing rugby while my team was scheduled to play basketball.

I'll take a heavy like Magloire all day long, but even Magloire picked his spots and generally kept his cool.

MC has been there for four years. He was there when Martin first came on and lived through the morale destroying beatings that Carolina took those early years.
I live in Columbia and have been pulling for them in their other games up to this one. His play and the ref's yesterday really opened my eyes to some things with the team -- not to happy with them right now.

He's a guy who under another coach would have been an above average SEC player on an average team -- he doesn't have the skills to start for a good team. Frank Martin turned him into a guy who is a borderline thug on the court. I'm glad Kentucky got out of there without Murray or somebody else getting hurt for the rest of the year.

All that refuse to lose attitude and rather kill someone than lose, but at the end of the day he still got his ass handed to him. I don't want him on my team. He's a straight up punk. I love an enforcer on my team, but there's a difference in being an enforcer and being a dirty punk. He played like a dirty punk. He would sit with the walk ons at UK. He didn't impress me. His numbers where empty and created by the refs enabling him to get fat at the line. Most of his points where garbage. I'll pass on him.

If he doesn't learn self control, dude will be making license plates.

His play was dangerous and he should have been called for that first charge into Murray. That was intended to injure. Calipari was right and Sirmons was a thin skinned twit not to acknowledge it. You almost have to think that it was coached just like Coach K's flopping teams. Sam the Eagle's teams are borderline assassins.

This is why that win was so satisfying, they're whole team was spoiling for a fight. Couldn't be happier with the win.

He's a dirty player, no question, after watching him shove off and elbow several times yesterday. The real problem I have is with the refs...are they so intimidated by Martin that they let that happen time and time again? I never saw one ref say anything to Carrera the entire game.

He's always been a dirty player.

Look at who his coach is, though. He could've been called for a lot more fouls. After that Ulis/Lee dunk, he pushed Lee when he came down, Lee just kind of looked at the ref like for real. He was allowed to play as physical as he wanted, if our bigs breathed wrong they were called for a foul.

I will say it was awesome to watch him go 1-4 on those tech free throws. As a great philosopher once said, the ball don't lie.

Tyler is an inferno of intensity but he's also not dirty.

You would have to really want to, to get along with Carrera.

I thought there were 2 times that a SC player took a swing. One was (I think) Carrera. Nothing from the refs.

He looks like a serial killer...is he your nephew or something?
Ha ha!!

Richard Ramirez!!

I'm not so sure he had any intent of doing anything but playing as hard as he could. I respect that and wish we could see more players give it their all. Was his play a little rough? Yea but when you're 6'5 going against the front line of the other team you can't tippy toe in there.

I would agree with you, except, that several of his actions came AFTER a play was completed. He wasn't being an aggressive player then, he was being a punk.

How about when your 5'9 and 6'2"? Ulis and Briscoe are regularly in there rebounding for us. Crikey. Briscoe lines up in a forward spot on FTs. Where you're a Vonnegut asterisk like [coach's name deleted] you sometimes get some screwy ideas about what's needed.

Tony Greene was standing right there after the Lee dunk when Carrera threw that elbow. You could see Lee questioning Greene wondering why nothing was called.

This times 1000.
The refs call Skal for bad breath and Carrera throws multiple elbows and crickets.

I agree with all the previous posters who pointed out that this behavior needs to be controlled by the refs. It's just another manifestation of the abysmal state of officiating in college basketball. Carrera throws elbows up in our players' faces all day long, but Briscoe gets tee'd up for bouncing the ball hard?! Ridiculous.
