There’s absolutely NOTHING wrong with going for it on the opposing 45 with 11 seconds.
The deep ball was dumb. 10 yard out. First down. Game winning field goal.
What was dumb was rushing up to spike the ball on 1st down with a timeout. You also could have just ran a play as the clock was stopped.
Fearing giving a team the ball with no timeouts and 5 seconds left is silly. Stoopsesque. There was ZERO chance of running a play and getting in field goal range. Clock would expire. It almost did on the ONE YARD pass they ran… But 20 yards in penalties with a second left did em in.
Each team will be trying their hardest to give the game away to the other team. Going to be ugly as hell.Louisville & Kentucky both very undisciplined teams.
You punt the football away every single time in that situation. If it’s an incompletion, your opponent has a shot at getting a short pass to set up a Hail Mary. You could get flagged for PI or anything else (like their unsportsmanlike conduct penalty) and put them in FG range. You punt, and Stanford takes a knee to get to overtime. What Bear Brohm did was coaching malpractice, and the result confirms that.
