Can we stop with the “SEC over-rated” posts now?

Don't think I'm necessarily wrong, but everything is subjective. The SEC in football has more long-time traditional powers to compete with each other. Bama, UGA, LSU, Auburn, Florida, UT, Now Texas and Oklahoma. So that "hate" is spread around and watered down. when it comes to Basketball, we have more SEC championships than the rest of the league combined. Same goes for Conference Tournament championships, as well. There were no other "traditional powers" in this league. Most of the current top programs successes are fairly recent. Have their been good or very good SEC teams throughout history? sure, but their successes were generally fleeting and not sustained anywhere near the level UK has sustained theirs. For the longest time the SEC was a lot like this years ACC. Us then everybody else was crap. That's why we have been hated.
That's an interesting take that I had not considered...that the hate being spread around in football.

Two things can be true at the same time.

From a non-bias person....youre wrong. Bama has dominated the conference in football for many stretches, even to the point that UGA's recent success feels like it's only due to bama taking a break.

Bama fans, outside of their main rivals of Auburn and UT, aren't as disliked as UK.....not because of success, but bc their fans readily give credit to an opposing team much more liberally and with good grace than UK fans does in basketball. It may not be a ton, but certainly much more then UK, even to the point of no comparison.

With UK? They've never lost a game to an SEC team if the score is close...unless the refs were out to get them. A lot of times even when its not close, an SEC team never truely beat UK. The opposing team can NEVER the better team. They only had one great night.

There were, surprisingly, a few UK fans even admitting that in a recent thread.

Then there's this back-handed slap in the mouth...."they played well because we are their superbowl".

Tell me something, would you support a conference team whose fans have that motto, even after your team earned a win? Not likely.

You know, I'm 42 years old. I've never, not once, heard a single Bama fan say as much after a loss. For UK fans? Probably dozens of thousands of times by now. Whether true or not, bama fans don't say stuff like that

If there's a lack of support for UK? Its not just bc of these things....but no accountability when it's pointed out. It's always pointing fingers at other people or complete dismissal.
Well for UK fans it does feel like we are every teams Super Bowl, and at our expense. It’s always the other teams biggest crowd for the year and it obvious the other team gets up for the game. The evidence is there. Now that may be changing now that UK has been down some and some of the other teams have gotten better but it hasn’t changed much. And by the way, it was your coach who coined and used that term almost incessantly to the point we were tired of hearing it ourselves.

I think only Florida or Houston can take down Duke I'm afraid. Even Kentucky, I don't think we have the horses, and we will have combat the officials too.

We don't beat duke the first time had their big man not started cramping. I think we were down 12 when he went out. He shuts down the entire lane. Completely dominant on D.

Eh, I root for the SEC in most cases. Not because I like the teams but because the east coast media blowhards hate the SEC and the South in general. You could hear it on full display during the UF UConn game today. Seeing their sad reaction after a big win like that means way more than any petty grudge I have against an SEC team.
I agree. I think it could hurt us in future year seeding if the SEC were to crap the bed in this tourney after getting so many in. The committee would be afraid to make the same mistake twice. I am all of the SEC doing great as long as we continue to beat everyone we play.

Dude, UK fans were using the superbowl comment back when I was in the Army in 2003....likely earlier as well.

You can say that UK fans created the whole concept of us being everyone's Super bowl all you want. I'll just go by the facts and evidence. For the longest time opposing programs had one, maybe two "white outs" each year. Without fail at least one of those games was against UK.
With exception of a few SEC programs, each every time they beat the Cats, it results in a court storming. Just this season you had the school president at Vandy walking up to the student section begging them to not storm the court if the Commodores won. Result was a court storming and a $500,000 fine.
I don't believe every UK loss is because of officiating. But, I do know there were some who held grudges against Calipari while he was in Lexington. Some were even quoted as saying the loved T'ing him up and/or tossing him out of the game. Now, I'm not a genius but, that sounds like personal bias to me.
On top of that, look at some of the lopsided fouls called in favor of home teams in the SEC. It's not just UK. The foul discrepancy is sometimes laughable. So, yeah that affects UK everytime we (or any road team) play away from Rupp.
The cumulative answer is obvious. Beating UK means MORE for many programs in the SEC.

Duke's biggest lead was 10 points with 2:40 left in the 1st half. UK only knocked off 1 point from Duke's lead when Maluach went out from cramping. Not UK's fault he wasn't properly equipped to play a 40-minute game of basketball.

Duke was +4 with Maluach on the court. He played just over 10 minutes in the 2nd half and 23 overall. He was even in the game as late as 1:37 remained. Duke's guards were out there the entire 2nd half and scored 10 points after scoring 28 in the 1st half.

He definitely has an impact, but discounting the impact UK's own players had on this win is BS. One could argue UK's offense and having to make up for Duke's deficiencies is why Maluach was cramping.

UK still scored 42 points while Maluach was in the game those nearly 23 minutes.

IMO, the only top tier coach from our conference who isn't going to the S16 is Buzz Williams and ATM.
I just can’t like Buzz, I think he teaches a prison league brand of hacking, smacking, punching, pushing basketball! He can muddy up a game to the point it takes three hours to play it! I’m glad his ass got sent home with his high water pants and 1977 suit vest!
