Cameron Mills Says That Bam Is Coming Back

Everytime I read this bam or bamba thing..I always think, why do people keep forgetting about nick Richards, it's like him and skj are the forgotten guys
It is kinda funny that we have Richards and act like if we don't get Bamba the season is over. There is prob minimal difference between the 2, especially next year.

Bam is one of those rare prospects who stand to gain 10 spots or so by returning for a second year. The draft is obviously weaker next year, and Bam could make a realistic jump into the lottery by returning. I think it’s clear that even if he ends up in the early 2nd round this summer, he’ll end up with a multi-year contract; however, if Bam ended up at #14 in the ’18 draft, he’d bring in a guaranteed $2.5 million, with a third year option at an additional $1.9 million for a total of around $4.4 million. If he goes now, and ends up at #27 (for example) that’s two years guaranteed at $2 million with a third year option at $1.1 million for a total of $3.1 million.

Being that Bam is probably going to stick long-term in the league, I’m not sure the extra year is worth it unless he sees himself as a top 10 pick next year – in which the three year earnings go from about $4.4 million to over $7 million. Obviously, it would be worth a second year in that scenario, but a top 10 pick is no guarantee for Bam, even after a second season at UK.

Sure, makes sense. But does getting into contracts a year earlier pay out at the back end? I don't know enough about NBA contracts to know.

Bam might be my favorite non-AD UK big since PPat. Eh, okay, I love Cousins, but it is close. Guy just has every damn tool possible for a big man in the game... good hands, quick feet, and christ almighty, he looks like he could lift a car.

Why do people think Bam and Bamba can't coincide? I'm lost.

Because Bamba has stated he wants to be face up 4 as and Bam wants to play his natural position too which is PF. Even though Cal is preaching positionless basketball I am sure Bamba and Bam know there has to be one back to the basket guy (a center) and neither want to be that guy. That is why its one or the other.

Yeah and those two playing 4A and 4B is nothing like when Wall and Bledsoe played 1A and 1B....it can't be done and Cal for sure can't sell it...jmusao

Outing yourself just a wee bit...

Haven't forgotten. But I think Richards is a year away from being great. He and SKJ would be fantastic backups at the 4/5.

I like him but i don't hear many people saying he has good hands. that seems to be one of his weaknesses.

Season isn't over, but Richards is not ranked where he is because he's a star right now. The kid has been playing basketball for 3 years and he has great tools. But he won't have nearly the impact Bamba would have.

I think it's unlikely Bam comes back. Cal has been selling him to scouts all year, and rightfully so. He didn't show his full arsenal here, just like Towns and Davis and others didn't. In workouts, I think he ends up safely between 18-25.

His feet are incredible for a guy with his size and bulk, and he's a good rebounder who didn't show it for the entire season because his help down low was Willis and Briscoe. He's a four in the NBA, and his ability to switch on the perimeter, guard quicker guys, and still hold his own in one-on-one battles down low and for rebounds all translate well.

Plus, in high school, he was a face-up, drive to the basket type, similar to Julius Randle (I'm not saying he's as good in that area). We planted him on the block because Cal's best teams need that, (which is why it's a joke that people complain that he hurts the team for Draft Night) but he's more suited to a face-up 4 than a back to the basket 5.

If he does come back, I think it would benefit both he and Bamba to play together, and you would hope Bamba sees that Davis, Nerlens and Willie, all guys he compares favorably to, played the 5 here and yet are all face-up guys in the league.

In fact, I think it would hurt him to play away from the basket because teams are going to draft him as a freakish shotblocker, and that's best showcased in the paint. Offensively, we can play all five guys facing up if we need to, but he's a 5 on defense.

The fact that he has not signed an agent is telling. You saw in the 30 for 30 that Cal tells certain players not to come back if they are locks (like that scene with Murray). If Bam still has not officially left, then there is an open dialogue about him coming back and there is a chance. I lean towards saying he's gone, but theres a better chance than most believe that he comes back.

Yea, Bam and Bamba playing together would be terrible, like Jones and Davis, and Cauley-Stien and Towns. I don't know if the guys see it this way or not, but the 2 #1 draft picks Cal has had that were bigs, had non-freshman help inside. Even Cousins who went in the top 5 had a non-freshman helping him inside. If I am Bamba, I would view Bam coming back as really good reason I could go in the top 5 in next year's draft, and possibly #1. If you were a guy like Bamba, why would you go to a team where you will be the lone presence inside?

This needs to be called out and emphasized - it's a seemingly obvious thing that either escapes people, or they simply don't want to acknowledge it.....It's all true, but I'm talking specifically about the bolder part.....

Who tf cares where they go? If we get Bam back we have a much better team. People act like Bam was ass last year and many would rather have Bamba which is crazy but sometimes I can't blame them because of the culture we have here.
Any person with a brain would rather have Bamba

I don't see it happening. He'll be a first round pick and it would be in his best interest to move up to the NBA. I think Cal will push him that way. Bam won't be on our roster next year.

Cal has NEVER pushed a player to leave unless they were a guaranteed top 10 pick.

But go ahead with the same old proven wrong ruse. Of course anyone with a private profile is borderline trolling in my book.

Thank you Brian. Logic is not well known at times on this board. Pretty stupid that people continue to think that about cal

Ridiculous. Bam played the 5 all year.

How do you know this? The strength of the '17 class is big men. Ayton, Bamba, Robinson, Carter, Jaren Jackson Jr, and you can just project a 10 spot jump for Adebayo? That's based on what? Assuming he'll get better--and they will all fall beneath expectations-despite fact all but Carter are 6'10 or taller and have a trait Bam doesn't possess?

Bam is going to show well in workouts--he can shoot the ball, he helped UK out by playing Center and it's a poor man's comparison to lump him with Dwight Howard like so many "mock" guys are doing. The joke was he facially resembles Howard-and has broad shoulders--but his game doesn't resemble him at all.

The fact UK guys are showing so well in NBA--and don't think the drop of Murray, Ulis, Skal, and even an undrafted kid like Poythress performing at a level that made haters and those who passed look like dumb asses will not play a positive factor for Bam. Cal has been warning people to not make same mistake--and Bam has little to gain--the object is to get in, get 1st contract completed and get to that 2nd Contract.

let the best man win. it'll be bam. dude is going to be a tank next year. hopefully he'll average 15&10 and get himself into a top lottery position for next year's draft

A Bam in hand is worth two Bamba’s in the bush.

A Bam and Bamba in hand is worth a real shot at a national title.

You know there are multiple juvenile innuendos ripe for the pickin in that first sentence. I'll just say I always thought it was the other way around.
