Cameron Johnson can play, folks.

for me, he reminds me of a player that gets thread started about. "Why isn't Cam Johnson not playing?" after first game, because Vanderbilt looked shaky.
You're right in how it would probably be phrased, but it's why isn't Cam Johnson playing, why is Cam Johnson not playing, or put Ritchie in.

The kid played at Pitt in the ACC and was a solid player and excellent shooter. Mulder came from Vincennes - JUCO school. BIG difference.
Johnson is 6' 8" and averaged 12ppg - would be a very good pickup for a team with virtually zero experienced players.

Nice to have but unless Cal is going back to platooning I don't see exactly why .. maybe WG is leaving. Would love to have him AND the platoon. Get 2 of those shooting guards and platoon all-court all game to minimize our shooting woes thru wearing the other team down. Also gets PT for everyone. Best chance imo for next year

If he comes we will have a boatload of 6'8" or 6'9" kids with the same body type and athletic ability. The skill sets will be somewhat different but there are only so many of them you can put on the floor at the same time

This is why we won't get him...

Cal is killing it recruiting, but our teams haven't had much balance recently. It's usually guard heavy or post heavy. I can't see him coming unless Cal simply allures he and his dad.

Surprised Duke isn't in on this kid.

He doesn't get as much A$$ as Wilt or Magic, but either of those comparisons work. As to the Magic reference, that's good, as hopefully a life of not cheating on your spouse, not that he's married yet, won't lead to HIV.
For Magic defenders, I grew up marveling at him on the court(who decided to give him a talk shot, eh, not such a good idea). Magic is a smart man and does a lot for underprivileged people. But, when you constantly cheat on your spouse and put her and and families lives at risk for your behavior, that makes him an utter, piece of garbage.
Oh yeah, Cam reminds me of Matt Pilgrim in practice.

With the caliber of school he seems to be looking at, it appears he knows he's a role player. That could factor in nicely for us.

I think Cal sells him on being the only "true 3" on the roster, even if that isn't necessarily true.

Would give us the possibility of a freakishly long second unit

SGA 6'6
Johnson 6'8
Gabriel 6'10
SKJ 6'10
Richards/Hump 7'

But is he a streaky shooter? It seems like every guard we get has the reputation of being streaky

Streaky is a very overused term, and it's never used for sub-par shooters is it? Only guys who fill it up some games and have the off-night. One of our guys who I think it did apply to was Booker. He started 1-10, then went a month or so where he couldn't miss, than another month where he couldn't hit.

I don't know much about the guy expect he seemed to be pitts best player and could be that coveted grad transfer we so disire. I think the only way cal goes that route is if he doesn't get atleast two more guards hopefully one of them being baker since he's a shooter. I think cal is weary about these guys because they have played in the same system for 3 years and it is hard for them to change everything they have learned over the last 3 years in college to fit his system. That said, if cal finds one that would be a perfect fit for this team I think he has take take him because green is only a freshman and he's not wall, fox, knight, or even as good as ulis yet. I think he's capable of handling late game situations, but it will help take away some of the pressure if he has a guy to learn from that has been doing it already. This is why I think dom was so valuable because he's been there and he could help the younger guys.

He was NOT Pitt's best player. He had teammates who averaged 19.6 ppg and 18.2 ppg, both of whom also averaged more rebounds and assists, and shot better overall.

He was Pitt's best 3 point shooter, and one of the better 3 point shooters in the ACC.

Still he's a very good player and we need shooters for sure

Really like this kid!! I want this kid more than Knox now. I wanted Knox badly but after learning about this kid and seeing that our roster will be super young, I'll take this skill set and experience any day of the week!!

Let's get him, Bamba, and Baker and call it a wrap!!! I like Smith but the fact that he had been focusing on baseball doesn't sit well with me. It takes a lot for a player to be ready to play somewhere like here and I think we should go with Baker myself. Looks to be a bullseye type shooter and that exactly what we need. I do however.....

Trust in Cal

He starts, IMHO.

We need his experience. Plus his shooting spreads the floor.

This team is going to be so very young. Johnson could be the only upperclassman (JR/SR). I see him getting the nod to start.

Magic did not get married until after he had obtained HIV.

Wrong. Magic was married at the time he was HIV positive as his wife had to be tested.

To me, a summary of Johnson in regard to UK would be: Very good shooter. Ok player. Ok athlete. Very nice role player to have on the team.

I would guess that he and Vanderbilt would get most of the minutes at the SF spot. Age + real Div. I college experience and shooting ability are advantages he would have over Vanderbilt, but the upside and every other advantage to Vanderbilt which I suspect will make it increasing hard to keep Vanderbilt off the floor as next season progresses.

Good points, but we really do need perimeter shooters.

Green, Hami, Vanderbilt, PJ, and Bamba = pack it in more so than t-will.

So a video of him shooting threes. He does other things as well is listed as a guard and can slide over and play 2 guard in a pinch. If any comparison it's to Miller not Murray or Mulder. Will get min at the 2 and the 3 positions. He will split time with Vanderbilt primarily at the 3 and may start until Vanderbilt gets used to the college game. If we have room for Knox we have room for Johnson but it's an either or if he doesn't come to UK with all of the connections I will get excited about Knox. Without Knox I can see 20 min a game at the 2 and 3. Best part about Johnson is his experience. Outside of Lamb the problem with our other 3 recruits billed as great shooters Booker and Young and even Monk they hit a wall towards the end of the season and their shooting went South at the worst possible time. Don't see this being a problem with Johnson. So I understand the tempered expectations however you don't see many grad transfers from a high major conference. This kid would be a great pick up.
