Gosh that is 34 years older than Cooper Flagg.I couldn't believe it either, so looked it up, but yeah looks like Cal was 50 at the time, and Pope is presently 52.

Cal is like a sugar daddy. He has big NIL $$$.Cal at 66 is an old coach with an old staff.
Make you wonder how long he can stay relevant in recruiting circles since he no longer has the UK brand to sell to recruits.
The kids entering HS now have never seen Cal win anything.
Pope added that to his own Wikipedia to make himself look better. He never went to medical school.Wikipedia says:
“In 2006, Pope enrolled in medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. In 2009, he left medical school and joined Mark Fox's coaching staff at the University of Georgia as director of basketball operations for the 2009–10 season.”
I was early 20's. It's crazy how you can link the coaches to stages of your life. This thread has reminded me how fast time goes. I was 29 when Cal was hired. 😱
I thought that was hilarious 😂For being mad when Pope was announced as the hire . Pope says “I was upset too ! Why would they hire him ! “ lmao.
Other schools can match his NIL for any one player as evident by the fact that Arkansas was never a player in the Dybanasta sweepstakes.Cal is like a sugar daddy. He has big NIL $$$.
That's what is most important to players today.....

Kids today don't care nearly as much about winning as getting to the league. We have a boat load of NBAers and they're all guys Cal coached so there's a lot of shelf life left for Cal on that matter. Not sure Cal's got much left in the tank though. He seems pretty miserable. Pope should be able to coach well into his 70's if he wants. Started late in life and takes great care of himself.Cal at 66 is an old coach with an old staff.

There's no guarantees on how good of a basketball coach Pope will be. But one thing is for sure, he's one heck of a life role model. Not just for players but everyone. He inspires me to be better.I thought that was hilarious 😂
I hope Pope isn’t coaching in his 70s. To me that’s entirely too long at UK. Besides he shouldn’t be greedy, just take his 4 titles and HOF status and retire at 60.Kids today don't care nearly as much about winning as getting to the league. One of my favorite movies. And that was a great scene.Reminds me in a round about way of a scene from the movie Patton where an operation Gen. Bradley was in charge of was going bad and he found himself on the front line with the men.
- Soldier : What silly son of a b!#ch is in charge of this operation?
General Omar N. Bradley : I don't know, but they oughta hang him.
