Calipari visited Romeo Langford Monday evening

Kentucky doesn't have to have this kid but man sure would be nice to stick it to Louisville. I work with someone who is connected to Langford and said this deal is done to Louisville. I sure hope not. but this visit is a good sign. so many options in that class plus some returning guards from the upcoming team. you have guys like smart, quickly, reddish, Dotson, ayo, . all of those guards can play at uk just a matter of which ones. cal will be selective just don't want this kid at Louisville.

I thought it was Dook who was the early leader?

If Romeo wants to be a pro, no way he goes to UL.

Still has to wait out the NCAA punishment for U of L. Why go there your one year if you can't play in March? I heard from New Albany people early on he was big on Duke. That's two years ago, though, TIFWIW.

This guy^ he obviously has no clue, Romeo is my neighbor and this guy has no clue yet where he is going. People that are actually close to him know his Dad is a big fan of UK and that Romeo is a big fan of Duke. That's all any information anyone knows and needs to know. Let the rest play out.

He's also got another meeting with Archie. Most seem to think he's Duke bound, at least that was the consensus while Crean was still here, but his Dad really likes IU.

Supposedly he has a super secret silent verbal to Pitino.......but, if that falls through then Louisville didn't want him and they had their hand's out.
Malik William's looked sooo good at the DFC that they may have backed off of Romeo since William's is the chosen one

FYI William's air balled a finger roll at the DFC..........

So he's definitely not going to Louisville then.

This is just a guess. But is this guy you work with a Louisville fan?

In all seriousness.... how do high school kids look at that program and become fans? Is it the Coach K and the Olympics things? Maybe Kyrie? He's about the only relevant NBA player they have in the league now and until LeBron came back, he was being pegged as a guy you couldn't build your franchise around. Tatum seems like he's a pretty sure bet to be a future starter, but outside of that, in the last few years you've got Okafor (bust) Tyus Jones (career back up) Justice Winslow (book is still out on him) Austin Rivers (no) Jabari Parker (always injured, can't start over Khris Middleton) and if I'm not mistaken, they don't have a single guy from their 2010 national championship team that is under contract for an NBA team next year while our 2010 team has 2 All NBA guys (Wall and Cousins) 1 borderline All Star (Bledsoe) and one other regular contributor (Patterson) not to mention our stream of guys that have come in the years since.

Maybe I'm looking through blue tinted glasses, but I'm curious what would make a kid want to be a fan of that program over the last 7-8 years.

As much as we joke about it on here, I would be willing to bet the UL recruit comment about Briscoe really pissed Cal off.

Cal is obviously smart enough to know that those words are not from that kid, they are from Pitino. Thus, Rick is talking bad...not about Cal...but about his kids.

"If you come after me, I will come back after you ten times harder. If you come after my family, I will come after you with the fire of a thousand suns".

Don't know this relates to the quick visit to Langford (probably doesn't), but it definitely may have impacted the visit once he got there.

I doubt he ends up at UL even if he doesn't go to UK. UL will prolly be on probation by then anyway. Never forget, they bought hookers for underaged kids, pretty despicable stuff.

Yeah I work with someone whose son played AAU with Langford and all the Duke fan stuff is true that's the team he has grown up liking. Sure would be nice to pull a reverse Kennard on Duke.

I guess you can look at it the other way though. Once these kids go to the league, it's on them, not duke. They succeeded nicely in college and all those players you listed are really good players and any potential recruit needs to worry about himself and not the shortcomings of others. Put in the work and let the chips fall.

This agrees with what I heard from friend who has sister-in-law working for New Albany HS, that it currently is either Duke or us. Of course as always, you should take that with the proverbial grain of salt.

They succeeded in college because they always get a friendly whistle. Coach K gets the same kinds of recruits as Cal, just not as many of them, and it's not even close as to whose players are more prepared when they get to the league. The favorable media coverage is also what's nice about going to dUKe and the "prestige" of attending that university. But if a kid is looking to get the best preparation for the NBA there is no doubt that is at Kentucky. A kid can be OAD just about anywhere he chooses but who has a proven track record of success, not just getting kids there?

Yeah this kid is duke all the way in my layman's opinion. Luckily all the guards that will be on this upcoming team will be back so as long as we add Quickly our guards are about set. There are only 4 guards in the top 20 of next year's rankings and really only 2 we have a shot with - Quickly and Smart . I think in next year's class we will be a 6 man class with 2 centers , 2 sf , 1 guard and 1 pf

Just like any "normal" college student.... don't you go to a school that will help prepare you for whatever profession you may go in to? The optics (whether they're true or not is a different story) is that going to Duke isn't setting these kids up for success once they get into their profession which just so happens to be in the NBA. So while I think you make a good point, I think the perception (again I'll fully admit my bias here) is that Duke players aren't going into the League and seeing big successes like the players from Kentucky are.

So again, my original question, is what is the attraction there? K and the Olympics? Kyrie? Like someone said on the 30 for 30, the absolute best situation for these players is to compete for championships in college and then go on to bigger and better things in the NBA. And we can give both better than anyone.

You think Diallo is coming back? Who is the second best shooting guard behind Langford?

All of this is completely false Clark.

Duke has 4 players from that 2010 team that have multiyear contracts on NBA teams (all guaranteed for next year): Miles Plumlee (Hornets), Mason Plumlee (Nuggets), Lance Thomas (Knicks) and Kyle Singler (Thunder).

Okafor has been a bust with the 76ers but he's been dealing with some injuries too. Assuming that he stays healthy, he should definitely be in contention to be a starter on another NBA team which doesn't have the logjam of big men down low that the 76ers do.

Jabari Parker was having a monster year with the Bucks (>20 PPG) before he tore his ACL. Parker (PF) and Middleton (SG) play 2 completely different positions so not sure why you brought that up.

Quickley is ours, yes sir. Shai returns, Baker returns, Quade returns? We'll be set. Agreed on Smart, Cal likes him a lot.

Maybe just me, but I don't get a good feeling about Langford. I don't like his game or his attitude. And I can't stand the thought of a kid playing for UK with the name Romeo. Pass. And I hate everything about New Albany. Terrible place. Terrible.

Espn loves Duke and has shoved the Duke and unc agenda down these kids/players throats.

As an IU fan, UK has been the place to go if you want nba success. I'm impressed with the OADs and how they all stick together even after only one year.

Romeo would be a great get for IU, he would just be another good player at uk. I wonder if that factors into these young players minds.

Good luck this offseason and the upcoming season.

Modesty prevents me from stating why I am partial to him and have never seen him play.

Forgot about Mason Plumlee. Probably cause he's the best player of the 4 and played 14 minutes a game that year. Zoubek was taking his minutes. And I should have said they have no one under contract *that matters. Mason has a chance playing with Jokic, but the other Plumlee, Lance Thomas and Kyle Singler..... Ehhhh. Keep getting them checks fellas. As far as Jabari, he is always injured. Two torn ACL's since he's been in the league. So yeah, kinda makes it hard to start over anyone when you're always rehabbing injuries. Oh, and I hate to mention this, but from the looks of things, it doesn't look like the Bucks have missed him much since he went out.

But thanks for hanging out over here on our board and fact checking me. Appreciate that, boss.

What is it that you don't like about his attitude? I went and watched him play in New Albany this year (as well as watching the game they had on ESPN) and his attitude seemed exemplary. Comes from a great family with a military background and the kid is expressionless on the court... just plays ball.

Nobody aspires to go to the NBA and be a Plumlee, Lance Thomas, or Kyle Singler. If I were you I'd just keep quiet when talking about Duke players in the NBA.

A little humor as the tards await word from the coi committee meeting today.

Zipp's reply to fans expressing frustation because they can't get a sniff from elite recruits so close to home, like langford:

If kids are not L1C4, they shouldn't come to Louisville, and we shouldn't be recruiting them that hard. I have no problem with any of that...

20 points a game on a .500 team is a monster year for a guy who was supossed to be the next Lebron coming out of HS?
