Calipari Fires Back at Anonymous Scout Who Rips Skal

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Every one of my players is on their own timetable. Kids grow at their own pace and shouldn't be judged by anyone else's timetable. We're here to serve these kids and help them reach their dreams. Ultimately they've got to do it, but if anyone wants to attack one of my kids personally, they won't be welcomed here. Evaluating guys is one thing, personal attacks are another. These are young kids and they deserve better.-Calipari

Good for Cal as I did think the scout went over the top on his assessment by calling SKAL a joke....to say a kid is not ready and needs further development and not likely to be drafted at this stage is one thing but he went way beyond that.

He is still going in the draft...Lab has a ton of potential and just needs time to develop. He is a finesse 4 player and the NBA is becoming more of a finesse game aka Warriors. He will reach his dream:sunglasses:...

The scout was accurate on basic evaluation but crossed the line by calling him a fraud.
I thought it was interesting saying he should t be on the floor

Something else, too. What if this is a scout for a team lower on the draft board? Saying things like this anonymously has a lot of benefit because you can bolster the kids negative perception enough to maybe, just maybe, put him in a spot where your team can draft him

We all know Skal has many weaknesses, but I'm glad that Cal stood up for him.

I so wanted that dunk last night to go down. Would have been a monster and it may have boosted his confidence.

Happens all the time but this guy could have easily used that tactic without the bitterness.

Yes, i hope Scouts keep pissing Cal off.

Which will help Cal coach Skal, and to motivating coach cal will only be good for UK fans. :-D

Cal is wired in enough to find out exactly who the scout is, he will privately destroy him then pray at Mass on Monday.

I'm no coach but let Skal start taking jump shots to get him going. Great offensive skills but needs to find some success.

I was agreeing with him . I was calling people who have written Skal off idiots.
Ok, wasn't sure, hahha. Imagine if Cal plays Tai Wynard at age 17 and has a slow start. The ones who back in August said Skal will be a #1 draft pick are the very ones who are throwing him under the bus now.

That Skal putback would have been one of the nastiest plays in UK history. Woulda been in the highlight/pregame videos for 100 years. Oh well.

Scouts are wrong regularly , look back at previous drafts to see who they missed on . The scout is a coward for not backing up his strong opinion with identification , if you're certain then why are you anonymous ? There may not even be a scout , media makes plenty of stuff up and attributes it to anonymous sources in an attempt to validate a opinion they otherwise couldn't throw out without repercussions . The media who wrote the article is a coward as well for agreeing to target a teenager but shielding themselves in the process , good job puss .

Appreciate how Cal stands up for his players...even those who are not very good.

wonder if it was the same scout that thought Daniel Orton was a first round pick?

Cal is correct....every kid develops different. Jorts.....WCS....even KAT took about a half year to turn into a monster...when he wanted to.

Skal may be that rarest of animals....
a kid that needs four years in college to grow up.

Good for Cal. He's right to stand up for his kids and I expect him to. What the scout said wasn't wrong though to this point. He could change that as the season goes on but someone asked his opinion and he gave it.

Why does this scout get to remain anonymous? Seems a little cowardly to hide behind the bushes and take shots at teenagers.
Well said. If he's so confident in his assessment he should be willing to risk his job and reputation as a talent evaluator and allow his name to be made public.

Because he works for an NBA team and based on his assessments that he and other scouts give their GM his reputation and job as a talent evaluator will is always at risk. If he makes his name public with his assemment, he's given free advice and his public opinion to the other NBA teams. No current scout is ever going to go public. Never has, never will.

He was never anointed (one n) king. He had high draft potential, there's a difference. He still has high draft potential.

Calipari was correct in saying evaluating was fine but insults weren't. People here defending the scout have missed that point all together and IMO just agenda posting.

You know what's worse than Freshmen that are learning and adjusting to the game?
Poser Fans(TROLLS) that bash Freshmen that are learning and adjusting.

I'll never understand supposed fans that bash a young man because he isn't doing as well as they think he should in his 1st 1/3 of a year. Was a day when it was pretty much a given that freshmen would make mistakes, need to develop, and weren't the scapegoat

I think he already knows. These comments were pointed enough to suggest to me that Cal knows exactly who the source is, and is sending him the message that you better be more careful about spouting about my kids if you wanna keep sitting courtside at our games.

You make a good point about scouts reasons for not making their opinions public but I doubt that other teams would pay much attention to what another team's scouts would say to the media. Every NBA team knows who the scouts are for the other teams and their ability to evaluate talent becomes public knowledge on draft day. A few years of teams drafting Anthony Bennett types with the #1 pick would probably cost a scout his job. Even if that's his honest opinion of Skal why would he want to share it with other teams even without allowing his name to be made public?
