I'm telling you, Wright's weird behavior the other night when again poked about the UK job might be telling to the point that he may have at least been contacted and may at least be pondering the idea.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you....driving me crazy. How is it they can't spell Oats....great googly mooglyNot trying to be a dick at all... But we gotta learn how to spell the man's name... Oats.
No offense taken at all. That’s what my autocorrect always corrects it to and I never catch it until after I postNot trying to be a dick at all... But we gotta learn how to spell the man's name... Oats.
His comments about Reed’s play makes me think he’d like to coach him. Maybe not enough though.I don't think you'd get any argument from any fan here, hugger or hater.
In fact, aside from people saying Wright is a pipe dream that's never coming out of retirement to be at UK, I've seen NO ONE say he'd be a bad hire. I've seen negative responses about Stevens (been out of the coaching gig and in back office too long) and Donovan (been out of college too long, NIL / portal challenges, etc.).
If Jay Wright walks through that door, I think our fans will finally be back together, at least until he gets a couple years under his belt and shows us what he could do.
Not holding my breath though - it's a long shot, but fun to imagine.
EDIT: Just saw a response above where someone actually had a negative thing to say about Wright...not engaged?
I think he likes Kentucky and the idea of that pinnacle. Maybe he misses basketball. It's not unheard of that a coach quits and then returns after a short hiatus. His comments about Reed’s play makes me think he’d like to coach him. Maybe not enough though.
He likes Z and Theiro too.
His comments about Reed are because he knows that’s his best shot to try and get another year here and also win the support of the fan base. Talk about Reed, talk about Reed, mention Z. Talk about Reed because these Bennies love Reed. When right up until the season ended it was DJ, DJ, DJ, anytime Reed or Rob or Z was mentioned. He’s scum, send him packing. Only a fool would buy his crap. His comments about Reed’s play makes me think he’d like to coach him. Maybe not enough though.

Dan I am 70 and I am done if this clown is back. I started listening to Cawood and Claude Sullivan in 1959 on my dad’s radio. Just loved it. Cal has torn it all down and Mitch is clueless if he doesn’t let him go. I guess we will see tomorrow or Wednesday. As someone who has been a fan near 50 years , I'm 57 , who has wanted the guy fired since 2019 , I cant say how sad it will be if all we get are EMPTY promises of " change". Damn we ain't dumb . He's got to go !
I think he was referring to how Wright talks about Reed, not Cal.His comments about Reed are because he knows that’s his best shot to try and get another year here and also win the support of the fan base. Coaching staff overhaul= Brad replacing Chinn. If Cal stays with a coaching staff overhaul I’m hoping Ulis isn’t also let go.
Unfortunately you’re probably right lolCoaching staff overhaul= Brad replacing Chinn.
Or Welch. If Cal stays with a coaching staff overhaul I’m hoping Ulis isn’t also let go.
I'd laugh if Cal didn't say he wish Brad was on staff in the pre-Oakland presser.Coaching staff overhaul= Brad replacing Chinn.
For sure. He always has been.If you have the opportunity to hire Jay Wright I think you do it. I wouldn’t pass up the chance to have him. I think he’s a much better coach than Cal
If I had to peg the reasons for the disappointments this year, the first would be the slightness of the players. My first ideal teams from +50 years ago were the old Marquette teams of Al McGuire. Skinny jumping jacks. That kind of team no longer works. Players need bulk and we didn't have anywhere near enough. Then, the injuries. Then the major additions to the roster in the middle of the season. Continuity matters.Anyone that listened to the coaches show tonight knows nothing will change. Instead of taking accountability he blamed it on injuries multiple times. Then went into toughness, young players, old players, maybe quit taking Bahamas and Canada trips. Stuff that has absolutely nothing with his sorry coaching ability, playing crap players ahead of better players. If Barnhart allows this guy back for another season he’s a fool.
I’d like to see this years squad coached by a real coach. If I had to peg the reasons for the disappointments this year, the first would be the slightness of the players. People determined to belittle Calipari belittle the effect of those, but that's nonsense.
Back during the Canada games last summer i wondered at how skinny our guys were since Cal's ideal players were the Memphis team he took to the final game. Players almost indistinguishable from football players. Our guys looked like high school players in comparison.
So, if you're intent to peg a blame on Calipari for this season, blame his roster building instincts. One skinny player you might be able to cover for, but 3 and 4 proved to be too much to overcome.
If it's any consolation, next year's incoming players do look like football players. Or body builders. Boogie Fland is the only skinny guy coming in. Even Travis Perry looks relatively stout.
Maybe that was enough for Mitch . It could be the final nail
Not trying to be a dick at all... But we gotta learn how to spell the man's name... Oats.
I will take bet. Oats will make a elite 8 or final 4 in the next 5 yearsNah, we don't...he will never be here if Mitch is A.D. He will still be trying to get out of sweet 16 with his gimmick offense 5 years from now.
Cannot stand that guy.
Dude has 30 percent of Alabama's sweet 16s.@RunninRichie I would make any bet you'd want that Lloyd will have a better career than Oats.
I know you are an Oats fan, I just don't like the guy.

Well I put in on the table then lol. Oats is gonna breakthrough eventuallyLol, I didn't bet him that.
Dude has 30 percent of Alabama's sweet 16s.
I think RDF said it best Re: OatsLol, Cal has 24% of our final fours.
In all seriousness, my issue with Oats was the PR disaster last year. Besides that, I personally don't think the way his teams play is generally sustainable for a tournament run. JMHO. I don't think he is an awful choice but he wouldn't be my pick here.
Alabama's been to the Sweet 16 as a program a TOTAL of 10 times. Nate Oats is responsible for 3 of those in the last 4 yrs. So 30% of their NCAA Tournament success as a program has taken place under his guidance. Alabama has the same makeup as this year's Kentucky team-they are offensively centered and a horrible defensive team. It's interesting how Cal talked about "fixing" it. He played it off, talked of excuses, etc...coddled people. Oats? He mentioned "LACKING competitive integrity", "not being tough" "do you care enough to want to win"? He called it out. Yesterday was a hideous game against Grand Canyon that took mental/physical toughness to win. Not only did they step up, but they figured out a way to win a game that a Cal coached team would've lost and talked of "not defining their season by this".
Oats is the best coach in the SEC right now. What he's doing at Alabama is being recognized by those who get the big picture of how hard it's been to win there and the stat above is a reason why. John Calipari himself has been to the Sweet 16 or beyond 15 times. Alabama has been there 10 as a program. The fact Oats is doing what he's doing is pissed on by people who get off on Scott Drew who has been a Big 12 version of Cal since Jerome Tang left his side. Now Oats isn't coming here but there were so many who crapped all over the idea of him, now concede "I want change for sake of change".
You do something that stupid, you are playing a game that ends up turning a fixable situation if you have a leader/plan (yes, another shot at inept Barnhart) into a mess where you are keeping a fill in because you got angry enough to not have planned (again Barnhart's fault) and got caught thinking everyone was fine with the crown jewel program of the University sinking into mediocrity.
Cal continued to recruit Tyreke Evans even after he drove his cousin to kill somebody. I think Oats is young and hungry. And it isn't afraid to call his team or staff out. He want's a title. He reminds me of a young Pitino. It's such a no brainer hire. And when he gets to a final four people will start seeing.Lol, Cal has 24% of our final fours.

Yeah he just got a big extension. Sucks. We're running it back with Cal. While Oats and Alabama are playing for a elite 8 spot in a few days.Well hopefully not...because we aren't getting him...isn't his buyout through the roof?
I forgot about the Evans story. Yeah, that wouldn't have happened here.
I would worry about his ego. You see how dealing with Cal’s ego has worn on most people around him and the program. I don’t want that again.Oates I don’t think would let the pressure get to him. He is very cocky and full of himself like pitino was.
I can get that stance for sure. I just think oats is the best mix of philosophy, coaching and recruiting in terms of the portal and high school playersI would worry about his ego. You see how dealing with Cal’s ego has worn on most people around him and the program. I don’t want that again.
I liked the way Oats coached even at Buffalo. I do agree he at least wants to win.Cal continued to recruit Tyreke Evans even after he drove his cousin to kill somebody. Mitch can ask for anything he wishes. But Cal doesn't have to do anything Mitch asks him to do.The only way Cal doesn’t return is if he is not willing to come to terms with Mitch about how the program is ran and the changes Mitch will ask for. You never know with Cal…..
Wrong, Mitch is Cals boss lol. Cal has a contract to coach. Mitch can control the program without Cals approval but he wants Cal to be on board with it. If he’s not then a change could possibly happen.Mitch can ask for anything he wishes. But Cal doesn't have to do anything Mitch asks him to do.
He has a contract.
I agree, the problem isn’t the coaches it’s how Cal coaches. I will die on the hill believing Cal doesn’t care anymore and is only in it for the moneyA coaching staff overhaul isn't going to fix anything. The strategy of using mostly freshmen is Cal's strategy, and he's made it clear he's not changing that.
Cool to hear I was telling the truth. lol, thanks for clearing that up for the rubes.
