This is cal we're talking about, so he probably was the one trying to tell himself not to play Z because he cant allow the fans be right about what lineups work... and probably the players who told him to get Z more time. lol. i trust nothing Cal says now.

Of course there is also the more likely scenario that he just made this entire thing up.
I think it's probably perfectly reasonable that if Cal told other coaches he wanted to give big minutes to a guy who's been lost on defense all year long against the #1 offense in the country at least one other coach would at least say "you sure about that?"
If starting doesn’t matter why did Cal himself say a few games ago that we have to start the games better? He specifically emphasized that the slow starts offensively needed to improve and were hurting the team.
Then he keeps rolling out the same lineup that has only one consistent scorer (Reeves) in it.
I keep hearing the posters saying”starting doesn’t matter as long as you get your minutes.” That’s BS! Lineups and combinations matter a lot, and Cal has sucked at it.
I forgot how dominant Bradshaw has been on both ends of the floor. You are right. Probably none of those coaches are smart enough to inform Cal of the best players and line up combinations except before this one game and Cal had to make a point to tell everyone he is right and they were wrong.

Big Z looks like he is so skilled and intuitive just playing like he would in a pickup game. I think what might be most beneficial for him - and maybe I'm wrong - but I think he needs a full season of physical play, structured basketball, and tough disciplined coaching.
Should’ve just started them then. 95% of the fanbase knows who should start. The other 5% are either stupid or just fans of Cal or the guy who shouldn’t be starting. Cal knows who should start too, he’s just showing he’s in charge or living up to promises.
Ugo defends and needs to probably start I'd say. Big Zvon should get plenty of minutes (15+) but defensively he's still far behind. I think putting Z with Reed, Thiero and good defenders is very intriguing though. Possibly including starting in our stingiest lineup.
Dj needs to sit until UT game and get healthy. He is hurting the team at present. We scored 117 with him giving us nothing on offense yet again.
Chris Livingston was drafted at the end of the second round. He was nowhere near a first round pick.

What makes starting the game so important? Obviously Dillingham and Shepard are getting more minutes so isn't that more important
Because the other team is starting their best 5 players and if UK isn't then you can quickly be in a deficit situation that you probably wouldn't have been in had you started your best 5 players. And keep in mind the two that are not starting are projected as first round NBA draft picks.

I figured he told the team that Z would get more minutes. That only really hurts Bradshaw. So Bradshaw probably mentioned it to his family/agent and someone from that group got in touch with Cal over it. If not that then as others have said, Cal probably lied. Trying to make himself look better by putting the blame on others for how he has handled Z.

Alabama plays the type and tempo of game that Z is most comfortable playing. Not surprised he played well.
It’s not just the game, it’s the 2nd half as well since that is one of the many cal stupidities. Whoever starts the game also starts the 2nd half barring injury. Forget who played well in the first half or who didn’t play well at all.
How you start a game is huge. I'll even go so far as to say how you warm up for a game is huge. It sets the tone. Often when a team starts sluggish they never can shake it, and they play that way all game. Also, if you can take your opponents confidence away from the start you make it much easier of a game to win.
It's coaching malpractice to not start your best lineup. Wether it be your best 5 players or your 5 most aggressive players. You need to come out and set the tone from the very beginning. Do not let the other team build confidence.

Klutch literally has zero control over playing time. This isn't 10-20 years ago when agents had to drop the bag and pay the players. Players get NIL now and agents for college players have almost zero pull. They are simply in place for when the player gets to the NBA and to skim their percentage off the top of the players earnings.
Why people who have zero idea want to continue to push the "Klutch calls the shots" agenda is beyond me.
I think we all would be amazed at the amount of money Cal gets from these groups like Klutch. He says he never makes promises to players, but I bet he makes promises to these groups that make money off the players. We may never know, I am sure he don't want this fanbase to know. Bradshaw needs less than 5 minutes a game and mop up minutes. DJ needs to sit until he gets his head and body healthy. Like someone else said, this team is 3/4 in the season. Cal just needs to sit and watch and let the dogs go.
It’s Cal being Cal, kind of like when he mentions his “coaching friends” say x,y, and Z (lol). Either way, glad he gave Z some run. He could be a big piece for March.

We need to make sure we get off to good starts and not fall behind like we have in several losses this season.
And how do you think getting yanked routinely before the 1st tv timeout impacts Wagner‘s play/confidence?
My point is Wagner has to be feeling immense pressure to do something great and not mess up in order to stay in the start of any game. If Cal is going to yank him immediately, just start Reed and let Wagner play loose when he is subbed in.
Cal is to the point with the fanbase that he just needs have his team produce for an extended period and limit himself from the look at me type comments. 5-6 years ago, this comment wouldn’t have been noticed by most fans including me. But with the underwhelming results of the last 5-6 years coupled with Cal’s saltiness towards the fans and sensitive nature towards any criticism this type of comment just isn’t going to be received well no matter how innocent his comment.
If Cal truly wants be at UK he needs to stop strutting every time something he does works. That is what he is paid to do. At least until he is back to winning the SEC somewhat consistently.
