Cal to Receive Nat’l Race Relations Award

Calipari's popularity drastically dropped when the team kneeled. No one on here can really debate that. It can be said that his team was playing bad then, and that is the reason everyone started complaining, but, there is a significant portion of our fan base that quit liking Cal at that point because of the kneeling and nothing short of a National Championship, or maybe a Final Four could have redeemed him. I find it hard to fault 18-20 year old kids (yes, kids "I realize they fight in wars, and that is an issue too") that come from such different backgrounds than most people on here for having different opinions than the people on here about race, politics and life. When they are the age of people on here and have lived a life outside of AAU basketball and college recruiting where basically everyone is trying to exploit their talents, they may have a different opinion than they do at that point in their life. If anyone on here that bitches about the handlers or families around these recruits was actually a top 100 recruit and understand what those kids go through, please speak up. It is really easy to be jealous because we weren't as good as them and to expect them to act the way we look back and hope we would have acted.

Wokeism is puritanism designed as progressivism. But, you people are so looney its hard to get through to you.
Sorry, I’m not a loser controlled by one of the trash political parties. That applies to one of us tho. Great system and control they have over y’all by making politics a sport tho. They made you think that you have to choose between one of 2 bad choices.

You think im a republican or a democrat? That's hilarious.

The irony in your statement is you're so controlled by your woke leaders you automatically think im a typical blue vs red guy. Hilarious, but like I said. Puritans have never been the smartest people around.
I’m not a red vs blue guy but you are. That’s why you run around screaming woke this and woke that. It’s a word they use to control their sheep. I reject your trash political party and the trash democrats too. Neither control me or have me repeating their talking points. Me saying woke means informed hurt your right wing feelings because they brainwashed you to believe otherwise.

There are obviously people that view everything that happens in the world, be it a basketball game or a war, through a political lens. Those people suck. And they show up in every thread on a UK basketball or football message board.

Cal is a great role model as he is a person of color. People forget about the old prejudices of Italian folks back in the olden days!

I'm not sure he does that nearly half the time,, but aren't both those insults you tried to make actually positives?

It means you are a weak loser controlled by politicians if you use it every other word. It also means informed.
“Woke” in its original definition simply means the acknowledgement of unequal systems and the understanding of how those systems became entrenched in inequality. That’s it, it’s just the acceptance of reality.

The way the Right uses it, it means anything that is black or LGBTQ when it could have just as easily have been white. It’s a dog whistle of white supremacy. They stole it and completely bastardized it, and you can see how it was effective in silencing those who speak out against inequality.

This is a very poor sentence, woke is not used correctly here. You're using an adjective as a verb, please fix this.
Woke isn't used correctly anywhere. By definition, to be "woke" is grammatically incorrect from the start. The correct usage would be "awakened," but apparently those who started the "movement" are either illiterate or believe their following is.

Below is the article of how the Brooks/Rupp nonsense has occurred.

1. Brooks was actually the one with a racist thought as he assumed Adolph was some kind of linkage to Adolph Hitler. So, Brooks made a mistake...which needed to be corrected (and it can be a gentle correction) but he was wrong in his stereotype of al people named Adolph.

2. But Brooks next sentence is yet another problem....he's yammering at fans that want 2 hours of entertainment and that somehow gives him a license to spout off anything he wants (which is his legal right of speech) but also no push back on his views (which he has zero right to). Another chance to educate Brooks on reality.

3. Cal in the final paragraphs is typical Cal pussified approach to players.
- "Don't blame them, blame me" (and I've got a cushy $90M contract....so you can't really do much to me in the end)
- But fans show respect that the players deserve (which is fair) but players don't have any respect to the fanbase. And Brooks bails on Ky when his NBA dreams blew up and goes to Washington Huskies to end his career in anonymity.
- Cal did video of visiting the Rupp grave sight early in his UK career and had a personal relationship with the family. But all of his knowledge of history....he never stands up for what he knew and instead bent the proverbial knee to his players.

Give the man his race trophy...whatever. He's done his make a wish foundation for black kids (hello Shady Sharpe), arrogantly talked down to his own fanbase, lies/misleads every single season, like the politician he is laments for more $$$ for practice facilities, etc.... He's been a colossal mess at UK for over half of his UK tenure now. But he's a great man....please.

Being honest, I haven’t educated myself well enough on Adolph Rupp or just the whole situation at hand to really give you my thoughts on it,” said Brooks. “But from what I do know, I’d like to see a name change because what his name is and what that’s connected to and what it represents,” Brooks said.

The quote from Brooks upset a large portion of Big Blue Nation that stands against the idea of removing Rupp’s name from the arena known as one of college basketball’s most prestigious cathedrals.

“We’re people that have strong views on topics just like the fans do,” Brooks said when asked about backlash from fans. “I think they just want us to go out there and entertain them for an hour or two, then shut up, but that’s not going to work. That’s not how it is.”

“BBN, I know some of you are upset with Keion Brooks’ comments regarding Rupp Arena,” Calipari wrote on Twitter. “Let me tell you he’s a very smart person and a very conscientious young man. However you feel about what he said, my hope is you show him the respect that all of our/your players deserve.”

Calipari added that he hasn’t had a discussion with his players about Adolph Rupp and who he is, but that is the plan moving forward.

“My job is to make sure all of our players are educated on all that goes along with Coach Rupp’s name, and we are going to walk through that. My plan is to get former players on a Zoom with our current guys so they can ask those players directly about Coach Rupp.

“My focus has been on everything going forward, which is why we hadn’t addressed it. As I’ve said before, give these players the benefit of the doubt. If you’re unhappy w/anything, be unhappy with me, not a 19-year-old who is walking through these difficult times. I love you all.”
I think you are misinterpreting Brooks comments. He is not stereotyping anyone named Adolph. He is saying that the name Adolph conjures up negative thoughts for people because people associate that name with Hitler, so he thinks changing the name to something that doesn't have Adolph in it would be a good move. He is basically saying that because of Hitler you can't have anything with the name Adolph on it anymore. He isn't associating Rupp with Hitler in any way. He isn't making a judgement about people with the name Adolph. He is basically saying the first thing people think of when they hear the name Adolph is Hitler. That being said, it's a very immature thought process. People are more intelligent than that. They don't hear the name Adolph and automatically assume negative things. So the statement wasn't very well thought out and it was very immature in the way he looks at things, but I don't think he was saying anything negative at all about Rupp or people named Adolph. In fact, he says he doesn't know enough about Rupp to have an opinion. It's just an immature way of looking at the situation.

Brooks was not referring to Hitler when he referenced the name. He’s talking about the name of Rupp harkens back to an era when players like him were not allowed to play. That’s why they proposed the name change.

Now I'm caught up with you...

The music guys listen to from many black artists..
1. Sure the language is part of it IMO...and n-word is flung around like soft serve ice cream goes down at Rupp
2. Women are b-words and hoes.....constantly
3. Violence is glorified in how to act

I'm sorry....I've never felt an inch of sympathy for Keion "17 foot jumper" Brooks. He acted like an idiot at UK....not just the Rupp commentary.

But I digressed a ton on this thread....Cal can have his award....yay yay. I don't think much of a man that panders, then lies to fans on behalf of said black athletes, etc...and call that a man of Race Relations.
Ok we get ot you hate Cal

I didn't take it that way. I guess there is no way to know for sure, but I took it to mean the name Adolph has negative associations because of its past, which is Hitler. He said he doesn't know much about Rupp, so it wouldn't be Rupp's past he is talking about.

Keion Brooks was a member of the SEC council on racial equality and social justice. His comments were not because he thought Rupps name was the same as Hitler’s. It’s because the Rupp era was one where black players were excluded.

If you could find yourself a team of Proctologists that would remove your nose from John Calipari's rear end, you would get what I'm saying...... I've always heard. That when someone in a feeble attempt to win an argument has to resort to correcting another person grammar, that they have admitted defeat. Please find yourself a good Proctologist little buddy.

While I appreciate your lackluster attempt at comedy, during no point in my response did I give my opinion on Cal so your whole proctologist bit makes as much sense as your use of woke in your original comment. You continue to have sentence structure issues in this response, you might just need a team of English teachers to help you prove your point.
