Cal Postgame

3pt. attempts were back down to 10 a half like he likes it. Took at least 8 long 2s. I bet he said “no” to Bradshaw when he stepped back next to him. This team has to take 30 threes a game, there’s no excuse not to.
Cal's a mediocre in-game coach. That's all there is to it at this point.

The grind-it-out with this team is absolutely absurd.

Cal needs to burn the shot clock so he can figure out what to do on the next possession he thinks so slow. That’s generally why coaches want to slow any game down so they have more time to think. Slow thinker cal. That’s why he only has one title. Coaches with ncaaT titles multiple titles are great at adjusting on the fly. Forget that with cal. He’s washed at uk.
It's wild to me that you guys talk about Cal like he's actually, like Chris Broussard would say, developmentally disabled. There are plenty of actual criticism you could levy against the guy, and yet this board literally thinks he's an absolute idiot who has no clue how to coach the game of basketball.

That’s good honestly but we don’t need to grind it out unless that’s the style of play the other team uses. We should push the pace in every game.
Yes... Yes we should. Especially after we've done seen what we're capable of doing pushing the pace and playing fast, loose, free and did it very well and did it unselfishly and you could tell those guys liked playing like that and had fun on the court together.

The fans was behind it and loved it and even taking heard were talking about how much fun UK was to watch this year compared to years past but then it just became too much of like damn ppl were loving it so Cal couldn't have that shit. That's what it feels like to me anyways. And I'm happy with the win today and will be happy with any win, but still don't understand why he can't cut this group loose because it was working pretty well.

Everything was running so smoothly at one point but then Coach Run a foul Cal needs to put his stamp on everything and make sure everyone is playing tight and hesitant to shoot the 3 ball and his stamp looks something like 🖕🖕 that. And it don't seem like the ink will ever run dry on his stamper.

We will have to see if we can mesh the 2 together. That’s our only hope. He better let them continue to play free though. We passed the ball much better today.

Well I feel like Cal can coach the game and knows the game but I feel like he does dumb petty shit that he didn't used to do at UMass or Memphis or when he first arrived here.

It's like he's in a pecker swing contest with the fans all the time. I mean look at his records up until 2021 til now. He got us used to going 38-2,. 38-2, 38-1 and numbers like that and he at least try to figure things out. I think most ppl recognize this and that's why they are easily frustrated with Cal when he does things like start Sahvir over Cason last year and trying everything he could to hold on to that dream just to show the Bennie fan that he had the right guy while the Bennies was saying it the whole time and what ya know... It turned out the Bennies weren't wrong after all.

When a guy is not giving it all he's got to win games that some ol guy up in upper Arena could win like let's say take ol Toothless Thomas from Tompkinsville out of Sec. 241 and even though TT didn't recruit the player himself he knows which guy should play to give us the best chance to win for UK then it leads me to believe that Cal don't care or Cal does some shit to be an ass.

It's not that I don't believe Cal can't coach or don't know how. I just don't think he cares that much anymore and he rather play head games with fans and just coast at the expense of a program that loves it basketball and takes it serious. I also think he has lost some of his touch but most of what he does his head scratching stuff.

That’s EXACTLY what RUINED that 2015 team! First 1/3 of the year, we were blowing everyone out, playing a freelance offensive flow. As the season went on, Cal made us play slower and slower until we were at a crawl and posting the ball every single possession. Remember what he said? If you don’t post the ball every possession, you’re coming out.

Go back and watch the difference from beginning of season until late season. The difference is unreal. He repeatedly stated we wanted to play a halfcourt game with that team. Mostly so he could get KAT drafted #1 IMO. 🙄
Cowtown you know you're one of my favorite posters by far but everything changed when Poythress got hurt before the UNC game. Where we agree is he went away from platooning almost immediately and started grinding out games. Hell we went to overtime with our first two SEC opponents in Ole Miss at home and at A&M. Nearly lost multiple games the rest of the way. He repeatedly says tournament games are half court games which drives me crazy. We would've prob done the same with a healthy Poythress so you're prob not wrong on anything.

I’m going to hope this is just a blip…..that the bad loss to UNC Wilmington scared him and he got a double digit lead in the 2nd half and reverted to his comfort place which is stall ball. But surely even Cal realizes his previous team’s with the exception of the Fox/Monk/Bam team were defense first and it showed in the analytics. This team is offense first so it’s REALLY bad strategy to force them to play in a way they aren’t good at. We need Roy Williams….this team is exactly like how those cheater teams played under Roy that won multiple championships.

Cal enjoys being a schmuck

Posted the long version in a different thread but my opinion is the shift for the spread floor and shooting 25+ 3s with ball movement over dribble drive back to our standard downhill drive and post focused offense in the circle action is bc the other style was not maximizing (showing holes) in Edwards and Wagner’s game. The shift back to 1v1 downhill basketball that is drive oriented and not ball movement oriented emphasizes Wagner’s and Edwards strengths. Those 2 guys were projected top 10 coming here and they have slid down the draft boards which could be used in negative recruiting efforts. Cal prioritizes individual player success over team success.

All we can hope for is that we have enough overall talent that we can win with any style even if the offense is better playing the style that was better for the team but had Wagner and Edwards as our 4th and 5th best players. Luckily this team has that level of talent
Surely hope that's not why Cal changed things up today

Roy Williams won 3 national championships. Enough said.

Yeah it defintiely isn't Bradshaws fault and Bradshaw would be the perfect big for this team. The problem is Cal and his desire to play the big clumpy lineups together. This team would be so good with a lineup of Dj, Reed, Antonio, Thiero, and Bradshaw on the floor together. Any swap of Justin and Thiero or Rob for the 3 guards would also be effective. These are the type of lineups we need to play our best but Cal stays away from them. He is willing to sacrifice good play to play his 1990s style of basketball.
Wut? You left Mitchell out of the lineup altogether?

Like I have said NUMEROUS times, he just can’t help himself…
He lives inside of his own bullshit. Once he leaves it is going to be very refreshing to not see the following:
- poking fun at the fans
- slowing the game down so he can showcase his favorites
- certain guys hold the team hostage by not playing
- not developing bench beyond 2 guys
- not playing zone when it warrants it
- letting certain guys shoot the team into a loss so that he can showcase them
- holding grudge against recruits that aren't his favorite
- the smell of Ellen's brownies everytime I turn on a UK game

That about sums it up. It's malpractice to not have this team running the 4 out motion offense the entire game. Rather, he wants us to spend possessions bogging down the offense by force feeding the post and having our entire offense stand around and watch. It's 1990 New York Knicks style basketball that has been proven over and over to be a thing of the past.

Cal said Jordan Burks is going to play the 3 going forward lol..what!?

That's just a bull shit excuse so he can continue playing 2 bigs with the occasional 3. Because we know AB and Mitchell will get the bulk of the 4-5 minutes.

This may be his reasoning. Which suggest fire him yesterday. Players first. Less Reed is a recipe for less success. Yet Cal wants less Reed.
