Cal is miserable lol. Pissed too. Watch post game

This is why I don't feel right ragging on him. He really doesn't look well and it's kinda sad. Though I got tired of his bad coaching, through it all he always took ownership of losses and he did a lot of stuff for people. I know he has his character flaws as well but we don't know what struggles people are facing in their personal lives.
If throwing players under the but is “taking ownership “ , then I agree. He would always say “it’s on me “ then spend 10 minutes trashing the players and blaming other things then finish with “ don’t blame them blame me “

Cal never talks strategy or breaks down the game analytically.

There's no point in him even having a press conference. He just says the same old tired lines over and over.

Probably the best summary ive seen of that situation

The contrast between AR and UK is just mind blowing right now

Not sure I have ever seen a similar situation / circumstances in college basketball before -- maybe not in ALL of college sports?

Classic case of someone who was legitimately great at what they do, having time pass them by, and they refuse to admit it because all of that success went to their head and created a toxic narcissist.

He will never be able to admit it to himself, either. Not even after Arkansas fires him and he’s not able to find another job. It will always be someone else’s fault. They don’t understand the game, not patient enough to understand his process, etc. He may get an ESPN or CBS gig, but even that is doubtful because he’s always gotta talk over everyone.

And also because he can’t verbalize complete coherent thoughts.

Word salad non ending…no details, just gibberish

1. This is hard…you have to get in gym and grind

2. This was a top ten teams and we did good stuff..had a chance but missed a FT, missed layups etc. (uh Ca you scored 60 …that is horrible)

3. Players have to play and it’s my job
To coach If I play you 10 min..show me you deserve 15

4. Teams go thru spells…Celtics went thru some stuff …everyone goes thru stuff. (Cal you’re dead last in sec snd bubble team…Celtics are 2nd best teams in East…there is no comparison)

Etc
Same old crap from a cooked coach

Have to seriously question if he is showing signs of dementia.

“So, Cal, what did you think about his decision to go zone there?”

“Well I don’t know because I haven’t seen seen him and I haven’t practiced it, but let me say this…”

Naw he knows exactly what he’s doing. It’s hard to disprove someone’s bullshit excuse when they’ve fed you 5 of them before you’ve had a chance to respond to the first one.
They could always zoom in on an issue, within the discussion. He'd likely end the interview, though. The media wants the discussion to continue above all else. Part and parcel.

You had 3 of the top 10 guards in college basketball.

Reeves had one of the best seasons in Kentucky history from a statistical standpoint.

2 top 5 picks.

That team was a Final 4 team when playing the way they should have played. But playing Cals preferred lineups with an oversized/under skilled small forward instead of 3 guards together….combined with preferring tk give Wagner 30 minutes…. We rarely had the 3 biggest weapons on the floor together simultaneously.
He also sat our best guards on the bench for the first 5-10 minutes of every half.

I will never forgive Cal for playing the dog crap lineups he played all season instead of the ones he should have played. He was intentionally trotting out DJ and Justin for personal reasons and completing ignoring what was best for the program. He should have been fired for it. The entire nation watched and laughed as he did it game after game.

If he had made the Sweet Sixteen, he wouldn't have ridden off anywhere. Cal would have returned to UK.

He had no intention of leaving until he checked the pulse of BBN's passion for him as a coach and realized it had flatlined.
He would still be here but with Brad on the bench. A sweet 16 and Mitch would have caved to his demands for Brad.
The only reason he talked to Arkansas is because Mitch said No.
Welch left UK from Pittsburgh, He was gone immediately.
Cal wanted to ditch the only good coach we had for Brad. A sweet 16 and Arkansas was us this year.

I mean, the man even has trouble starting and playing his best players. Most coaches do not have that problem. He is lucky he has Thiero. Without him, it would be a total disaster. Some of their players don't play hard and they look out of whack when crunch time comes. AR messed up bad, there was a lot of much younger coaches they could have got that would have been a ton better. Cal's time obviously has passed. Luckily it only helps us in the conference.

One thing I thought was funny is he didn't know who they played next, what day the game was or if it was at home or on the road. 🤣🤣
Cal plays too much.....mind games....
And the Arkansas fans and media are lapping up his BS, just like so many of our fans did for years.......

They will learn better......

Cal has not changed.
Arkansas looks and plays just exactly how we looked and played for at least the past 5 years.

Probably longer. Just had enough talent to cover up the coaching madness.

Thiero is the one guy I wish would have stayed. I think having him on the defensive end and his aggressiveness of going to the rim would have been the missing piece of this team.

I agree on Thiero being the missing piece for this team, but I also believe that Big Z would have excelled in CMP system.

Z's ability to pass out of the high post and also can step out and shoot the three would be a deadly weapon in this offense.

You are probably right but the only thing about Big Z to me he is like Carr in that he isn't seeking contact and he isn't great defensively. I don't know how much of a gain it is to have Z over Carr.

I agree. I wouldn't take Z OVER Carr. Carr is much more experienced and a much more well rounded player than Z.

I was speaking of Z being a nice backup at the 4 and 5, or a good choice if we ever have to play 3 bigs.

I like my team. Warts and all.

I think about that and at times I agree that Thiero is the one who, if he had stayed, might have done well under Pope. However, I'm glad that Pope has started with a clean state of players. I think that best for everyone.
