Cal is miserable lol. Pissed too. Watch post game

He thought last year was gonan be his “ ride off into the sunset year”. But because his game plans and in game coaching are terrible, Kentucky lost to a team they should have beaten by double digits

Did anyone actually think last years team was that good?

I saw them as a sweet 16 team at best due to their dog crap defense and being led by too many freshmen. Cal couldn't even come close to that though due to the reasons u mentioned.

I view ride off into sunset as making a final four or winning it all even and last years team wasn't that squad.
If he had made the Sweet Sixteen, he wouldn't have ridden off anywhere. Cal would have returned to UK.

He had no intention of leaving until he checked the pulse of BBN's passion for him as a coach and realized it had flatlined.

Thank you Tyson Chicken!
I first heard this on The Sopranos. It was a sign of the fall of Tony's power and ultimate demise.

Now, fittingly, I associate it with the end of Cal's era at Kentucky. There are many parallels. He was once powerful, but lost his hold on the power he had obtained.

I think he misplayed his hand as well. He met with Arky thinking he might could leverage something with Mitch. Whelp. That didn’t work.

Can't post link right now.

Word salad non ending…no details, just gibberish

1. This is hard…you have to get in gym and grind

2. This was a top ten teams and we did good stuff..had a chance but missed a FT, missed layups etc. (uh Ca you scored 60 …that is horrible)

3. Players have to play and it’s my job
To coach If I play you 10 min..show me you deserve 15

4. Teams go thru spells…Celtics went thru some stuff …everyone goes thru stuff. (Cal you’re dead last in sec snd bubble team…Celtics are 2nd best teams in East…there is no comparison)

Etc
Same old crap from a cooked coach

All that and still had a chance. I don't miss that and all the other crap. Sounds like so many of our press conferences the past years. Thank God it's over.🤡

For all his shit that made him unlikable, this wasn’t one of them to me. I have absolutely zero issues with his daughters defending their daddy. Maybe it’s because I am a father to a strong willed daughter or maybe I am an old school guy who doesn’t like to see women disrespected. But i definitely didn’t like the way our fans reacted to his daughters online. There are certain lines, as a man that you do not cross. You don’t disrespect women.

My girl would defend me. I bet some of you have girls who would do the same. We would damn sure defend them. We, as men should have let it go with Cal’s daughters.
This i agree with. I would defend my daddy until hell froze over.

The younger one was fine. The older one was the problem. And for me it wasn't about defending her dad at all. It was about politics and how much more important her opinion was than yours.

As usual just BS, be a team mate and chest bump. Show emotion. You don’t even have to play great just play hard. Dive for balls! Like wtf is that kinda analysis Cal? He said we did the things we wanted we just couldn’t hit a layup lol. Talking about AAU stuff when half his team is older.

The thing that got me was that he made sure to point out that Florida is a top ten team. Lol… AND?? You were allegedly a top ten team as well, preseason. You brought in a ton of talent with your NIL backing. You yourself are compensated like you ought to have a top ten team. So why are you not even ranked, and winless in the league?

This is from CBS Sports

Almonor, who is eighth on Kentucky in minutes, made as many 3-pointers (three) in a period of two minutes as the entire Arkansas team did in its 71-63 loss to No. 8 Florida on Saturday. As the Razorbacks fell to 0-3 in SEC play with another dud offensive showing, the Wildcats turned in an elite offensive performance on the road against a quality opponent.

I really haven’t thought about it like this before. But I think Cals cognitive abilities might be slipping as he gets older. He was always awkward here doing them but I kind of feel bad after watching that clip. He’s completely toast.

After having seen so many Calipari press conferences, it's interesting to me to watch the same press conference playbook used again at Arkansas. Like Calipari stating some jumbled, broken sentence descriptions of a few plays and then asking "why would you do that?" - like he as coach had no responsibility for why it happened and keeps happening. And Calipari starting a sentence and then leaning in and raising his eyebrows to signal he's expecting the reporters to finish the sentence like they're his students and he's the professor. Then suggesting that he somehow, miraculously got his team to overcome all those mistakes and still be in a position to win if they had only made the shot. He has certainly mastered the art of talking a lot without saying anything substantive or insightful.

He doesn’t finish speaking about one point before starting on another.

Cal certainly can’t use the we are young excuse, he starts one Freshman, he has the number one portal player, a former number 1 recruit and at least 5 players that have been projected as first round picks at some point.

The squad when we didn’t have the bigs and ran up and down the floor was absolutely a FF contender. Then the bigs arrived, Cal was able to play his signature play though the center offense, put the plow on, and they were no longer a FF contender. He ruined that squad

In that press conference when talking about missing layups he goes “you know that’s still some AAU/High School stuff”. Ummm what? Johnelle Davis, the 5th year senior and Wagner and Thiero still doing HS stuff? 😂

Personally, I pointed this out constantly the past 2-3 years.

I genuinely believe he’s not mentally competent anymore.

We were playing Welch's game and we were rolling. Then it seemed Cal had to make it about his style and it was curtains after that.

Im not on twitter so I’ll take your word for it. As far as defending family, I am ok with it. Politics are the bane of our existence

Cal's not toast. He is just lost on who to blame for HIS failures as a coach.
Can't blame the fans. Bennies are still over here.
Can't blame the media. They are still kissing his @$$.
Can't blame NIL. Tyson fully funded HIS players.
Can't blame the AD. That dude was dumb enough to hire him.
Can't blame his assistants. He hand picked them.
Can't blame the "facilities". Arkansas has top notch facilities.
Can't blame the football coach. Pittman has stayed out of his way.

Arkansas has exposed Cal and he has no one to blame but himself. That will make you look sick, because he is sick.

Sick from making such a dumb decision to fire himself from the greatest basketball job on earth.

He is probably o k mentally, he is doing the same thing at Ark that he did here for the last several years. He is just going thru the motions and not coaching, he is coasting

Agree to disagree. He’s a public figure. It comes with the territory that you’ll be criticized and polarizing….and they are of the generation that understands internet comment sections aren’t for the faint of heart. It’s why 99% of celebrities don’t engage w comment sections bc you can’t police the internet. Even “non public spotlight” ppl get wrecked in comments if they start picking fights with a collective on the internet. They knew what they were doing. It wasn’t innocent “defending dad”

They were essentially just being trolls for engagement and the early “defenses” weren’t personal attacks but just stating the coaching shortcomings and his daughters began taking personal shots at the state, University, and fanbase. The reality is we saw the same attitude start coming out of Cal in the last 5-7 years which implies they were reiterating his behind closed doors feelings about the state, fanbase, university that he later started showing himself. Once that happened then they started getting tagged in any future debates and comments.

Ellen was always generous and classy. But the rest of that family are ego maniacs that have an elitist attitude towards anyone from a culture that isn’t their own

His pitch on the recruiting trail and style are not relevant anymore.

Times change.

Can’t pitch “feed the family…big NBA bucks anymore”

Everyone is going to make a little something. Especially at P2 level. Kids never were starving…that was all hyperbole. Best life you can live is a D1 P5 athlete. But I digress that’s a long winded rant for another thread and time.

His style is on the outs. Superior athlete run n gun ball was hot and worked for a bit, but it wore itself and the players that could do it out.

You need skill and position ball. In college especially. High school/AAU elite ranks can still do the athlete run n gun. NBA if you have a top 10-15 player/scorer…you can do it to a certain extent.

Overall most of college and even starting to creep into league it’s skilled, team, euro style ball.

Can’t win with young kids playing blacktop ball. League has been trending that way for a while just by nature of drafting global and expanding popularity footprint overseas.

Big skilled over seas players who’ve been playing with and against grown professionals in a pro team/pipe line since they were 12 are taking over and so is their style.

Cal’s pitch and style was applicable to only a very niche group to begin with and then the game evolved away from that even more.
