Cal and Perry

I call BS on this info. I can’t remember Pilgrim or anyone getting something right. I know for a fact that Cal visited Perry several times after his commitment. Doesn’t make sense at all.
Call BS if you want. It may be. This is just what I was told to me by a someone I trust close to the recruitment and Perry’s team. Spoke to them in March about the recruiting process. Said Cal got pressure to start giving Kentucky kids looks, especially if highly ranked. Offered Perry in 2022, but Perry didn’t think he’d get a chance and was going to Purdue. Seen the success Sheppard had in the summer Global Jam and knew he could play his way into minutes. He signed that fall. Said after the Maggard Holiday Classic back around New Years this year, there wasn’t a lot of communication. It could have been because UK was gearing up for the rest of conference play or maybe that’s when Cal realized he was gonna look for a way out. We know he thought about other jobs back in Feb and that he didn’t watch the state title game. Take it or leave it but the person I talked to would know and I believe them. If you don’t that’s fine. It lines up with the OP so I don’t doubt him.

He's a snob and a taker that gives almost nothing of his own to anyone unless it is for his glory or benefit.

Some people buy the shtick, but the truth is he hasn't made anyone more money than they wouldn't already make without him. He HAS however cost quite a few people money that might have gone to the league well prepared for a future there, but after selling them on his "plan" for them he gave up on them very quickly. They were a means to an end. We all were. That's how things work for him

He tried his best to keep Reed on the bench, but couldn't. He did manage to keep him from setting some records while he was here. He thinks the world of himself, and only loves you if you can keep reinforcing that image.

I still can't believe he BRAGGED about "not giving up on Edwards," as if that should EVER have been an option, and as if using the bench as a tool now and then is somehow "giving up on him." That's some pretty next level asholery to say something like that.

I don't get how parents of players can't read that and go, "Wtf, if he's bragging that he didn't give up on Edwards, then he must have given up on others. Is that going to happen to my kid if he isnt projected in the first round?"
Well he also used to brag about Anthony Davis being 4th on the team in shot attempts so………..he’s a weird dude .

Cal gave an obligatory scholarship to appease boosters. Perry was headed to Purdue. Once he accepted the offer, they didn’t give Perry the time of day. Glad he had some foresight and he’s here. He’ll be a good fit for Pope’s style.
Damn bro could have a national championship ring.

Reed has some hops etc that Perry does not have. Perry has been a better high school shooter than Reed & it's not even close. Obviously they have different games.

I'll hold judgment as to what I think Perry will be next year. No one...absolutely NO ONE, including Reed & his parents, expected him to do what he did this year. It was thought he'd come tribute some as a role player this year & have a larger role in year 2. SURPRISE!!
I expect Perry will come in when they need a 3 point specialist who doesn't play much D

There is no one close to “Perry’s team”. Thats because the team is Travis and his parents. They aren’t big talkers. If Cal told Perry not to come then Perry would have signed with Alabama (not Purdue).

The mental hula hoops and the pure delusion of this thread is astonishing.

I think Perry love for Ky it did not matter who was coach he would still came to Ky, Cal promised these 5 stars they will start then players like Edwards or Wagner starts over better players on the bench like this last yr.

Perry is going to have a much better career at Kentucky with Pope than he ever would have with Cal.
I agree with this take. Do I think Perry will have an amazing UK career? I'm honestly not sure. However, I do tend to believe his ceiling with Pope will be far higher than it ever would have been with Cal.

Why WASNT he or anyone from the staff at Rupp for Perry’s state title game? Ain’t like they were busy since they’d just got their ass beat by Oakland.

This is not the first person I’ve heard this from, regarding the OP’s post. Kal absolutely didn’t care about Perry. Just like he didn’t care about Allen. Hell he didn’t even want to recruit Reed for the longest time. He’s a POS.
This is another BS rumor. Shepperd committed to Kentucky in the fall of his Junior year.

TravisP isn't ReedS. Totally different people and players. To say they're the same is to set unrealistic expectations on/for both. Not very respectful of either as a person or player. Jmo though
I think Perry can eventually be as good for us as Sheppard was but they are VERY different type players. Except for being great shooters I don't see ANYTHING similar about their games.

I don't know if what Pilgrim said was true, but I do know that if Cal were still here and he didn't get much of a chance to play, he would definitely be gone after one year. This comes from a friend that's close to the family.

I cover and know the teams on the 3SSB circuit as well, if not better than anyone. I hear all kinds of noise on Perry.. small, played in a weaker conference, against weaker competition, blah, blah, blah.

I’m about as negative as one can be on high school basketball in Kentucky. 8th grade kids being reclassed so many times they having parking spaces for student drivers at the middle schools. Who ever heard of 20 year olds graduating as seniors!

I say this to say Perry averaged 20.6 points in seventh grade, 26.6 points in eighth grade, 27.3 points as a freshman, 27.5 points as a sophomore, 32.2 points as a junior, and 29 and some change as a senior against people that were older than him, with teams that had more talent than he did, and while being double and sometimes triple teamed each night.

He is a scorer, not a shooter. He can shoot the 3 ball well, but this kid can score the ball at every level. He won’t be just a shooter for us.. watch his AAU film plus his high school film and you’ll see how versatile he really is.

I was sure the title of this thread was just a hillbilly spelling of 'Calipari'

he’s 6 feet tall, that’s gonna be a problem at a high D-I level. I’m sure he can ball but being guarded by 6’4 guys who are just as quick, if not quicker, is gonna make it tough. Plus at that size he’ll be a defensive liability…at least initially. I don’t care whose system it is size, physicality, athleticism, defense matters. Nothing against the kid, but it’s gonna take time to acclimated.

Perry has a team? Thought we were done with teams and the like.

At least his team isn’t clutch I guess 🤷🏼‍♂️

Finally, someone who has actually seen him play. I, also, have seen him play against much higher rated players several times. Travis wasn't the high flying athlete, dunking awesomely, rather he played undercontrol, without much fanfare, but at
games end his numbers were unreal. Remember when Travis was a junior and Reed was a senior, Travis only scored 45 points, several steals, rebounds and assisted. Yes, Reed had a great game also 38 points, 10 assists or so, a double double.

It's unfair to compare Travis to Reed, IMO their totally different. Personally I think Travis is one of the most underrated passer, with unbelievable vision and like Reed gets his share of deflection and steals. Reed is more athletic, jumps better and is more of a WOW type player. Travis is the type player that every team needs and he's tough as a knot and will give everything he's got all the time.

I'm not saying ur lying, but I can't find that anywhere. Can you send me the link
It was one of his youtube videos, but I don't remember which one. Said it as though it was an established fact, but who knows. Actually, I found it.

Starts at 6:00 and goes about 20 seconds. Said he was told straight up not to commit.

Cal really doesn't like to bring in Kentucky boys. Eventually he plays them but he really doesn't want them messing up his 5 star rotation.
I've always wondered what Cal seems to have against Kentucky boys. Anybody know?
