Buyout

Buyout is 75% of remaining salary, $44 million was the last number I heard and may have been the amount after last season so $36 million after this season sounds about right.

Only chance we have here is a Cal type situation. Another team scoops him up. I’ve been adamant since the summer this is Stoops’ last year with UK because I think he’s going to have his agent find him a way out of here.

It’s wild how similar this is to basketball last year. A coach making great money, with a big buyout, and fans frustrated and wanting a change. It’s a lot of money but there is only so much hate you can take. I can easily see a B1G, AAC team making a play for him

Clarification
The $3.5 million is what Stoops would owe UK if he left for another job
UK would owe him 75% of his remaining salary, which is about $41 million after this year if they fired him without cause.
I get this is water over the bridge…but how in the world does he essentially take the Texas Am job and then get rejected…and Ky owes a buyout?

Why would not 3.5M be what is owed after last year fiasco

If UK wouldn't foot the bill for basketball then there is zero chance they will pay for football. Unless Stoops bangs another intern or something we are stuck with him.

Stoops or TX A&M would have owed UK that amount instead of the other way around.

I honestly don’t believe there is anything in his contract about talking to other schools. It would not have been a breach of contract.

Had he taken the job, he would have paid UK $4 million.

I didn't want to get into this but obviously it's true. Some on this board get outraged when you state the obvious.

The only hope we have is if Ferentz retires from Iowa and he goes there!
That is not a good plan. I can't see any school hiring Stoops with his record at UK. He is not hirable by any decent program. I'm very very certain aTm is thrilled they revolted when he was considered as a head coach hire.

They are so one sided. Mitch gives- he doesn’t negotiate
Coaching contracts in general are one-sided. This is not just a UK thing. Mitch's biggest issue is the length of the contracts he gives (I agree with you about 5 years), but 75% buyouts are pretty damn common in coaching contracts nowadays.

I think there's exactly zero fan bases in P4 that would be excited about a Stoops hire.
He would never leave UK to take a job outside of the P4.

I understand that but don’t see any other program wanting Stoops he just hasn’t done enough to justify a better program taking a gamble on him. He takes one step forward and 5 steps backwards.
