Go watch Chad Baker-Mazara play. He’s the type of player Pearl gets. Always a team with total punks. KD Johnson was a loud mouth loser for the past several years. Pearl loved him. Players are a reflection of their coach i.e. Pearl is a loud mouth with a past of his own. I’ll roll with who we have and know the future is bright. Triple C left the cupboard bare. This is just a silly take at this point in time. If this happens next year then I will listen to you, but Pope had zero time to recruit and the portal was even limited with players when he arrived. He had 0 returning players and on top of all that he was crushed with numerous injuries at key positions all year long. I am not sure this was ever a championship team, but we were way better when healthy than we are now for sure. Just look at the early games in the season when we were healthy.

Pearl has been a head coach in college basketball for 33 years. He’s made 1 FF and no championships.

He’s recruited and coach some of the most unlikable players in college basketball, and he looks like a tomato.

It’s too early to say what kind of success Pope will have. But it’s not too early to say Pearl isn’t a championship caliber coach. So I’d rather have a maybe than a definite no.

I'm not saying I disagree with your sentiment, but Cal was every bit in as much trouble as Pearl, actually even more but UK still hired him. Pearl hasn't had any vacated seasons anywhere. Yeah, he's been a little sketchy, but many people thought the same about Cal before he got the UK job, and he had no real issues here, who's to say Pearl would.

Bruce Pearl would not have won as many games with our players as Pope did. Bruce would have destroyed their confidence with his constance berating of the kids. The only way Pearl would or could have out performed Pope would have been to bring his team with him to Lexington. I'm glad we have Pope going forward. I'm not sure Lexington would be or ever would be a place that Pearl would be welcomed with his baggage.

He would have had to field a whole entire new roster from scratch, just like Pope. So, how in the hell can you predict that Pearl would have had brought in enough championship caliber players through the portal to be #1? There is no example where Pearl has had 5 new starters and been successful.

Auburn got beat in the first game last year with a lot of the same players. Let’s give Mark Pope time to recruit and build his team before pronouncing judgement on the future of UK basketball.

UK was not going to beat Alabama under any circumstances last night - given the healthy roster of Bama and all the missing players for UK. If you had told me that UK would end the regular season as a 3 seed in the NCAA tournament and beat dUKe, UT twice, Gonzaga and Florida, I would take that all day. That is an incredible feat for a coach who has had one adversity after another all season long to deal with.

Congratulations to Coach Pope and his staff and the players for making KY bb fun again. Let’s go make some noise in the NCAA - GBB!

Barney knew pope would be so happy to take the job that he (Barney) could be involved with the team, even micromanage some. Like this clip I’m about to link with him banging garrsion in the chest with his finger berating him. That’s not his job but he knows pope isn’t doing anything about it. UK needs a big ego as coach but Barney can’t handle it. As a former head coach that’s a non starter for the AD to come lecture my kids. We would all take the UK job as would many former players. It doesn’t mean they are the right fit. Cbb more than ever is all about the coach and their personality. You can tell a guy like pearl is exactly who he shows himself to be and he is a fun guy. Players want to play for him and he is hungry probably more than any coach out there right now. No way could Barney do what’s best for basketball and put his ego aside. Not anymore. He’s had too many sour moments to continue on. It all clouds his judgement. I think too he’s weak and wouldn’t poach another SEC teams coach. There’s way too much baggage for this guy to make rational decisions. UK fans knew it before cal that Barney couldn’t make the next hire. It was discussed ad nauseam here. Thats why I’m confounded by many fans who don’t care about popes lack of cred for the job any longer
