Briscoe's Shooting Woes a Simple Fix

Briscoe was a decent shooter at Roselle Catholic High School. Briscoe shot 46% in his senior year and shot 35% from 3 and shot approx. 70% from the line his senior year and 72% in his Junior year. So, Briscoe has to be in shooting slump right now as low as he is shooting right now at UK. He is shooting from the FT Line 16/50 for 32% and 4/21 for 19% from 3. In the 3 all-star games in his Senior year Briscoe at the Jordan Classic was 3/7 from 3 and 7/8 from the FT line and scored 22 points. In the McDonalds All-American game he was 5/6 from FT Line and scored 11 points. In the 3 all-star games Briscoe ws 15/20 for 75% from the Free Throw line and 14/31 shooting for 46% and 40% from 3 and averaged approx. 15ppg. in the All-Star games. Right now with Briscoe it has to be a mental block with his shooting being so low right now shooting only 19% from 3 and 32% from the FT line. Right now the only time Briscoe is scoring is on his layups and not from his shooting inside the 3, the 3, and ft line. Hopefully Briscoe snaps out of his slump from shooting inside the 3, the 3, and way better from the line. We need him scoring 15-20 ppg. to go along with Ulis & Murray from the outside and Lee & Poy inside. The LSU game scoring 5 points in 30 minutes of play and only 1-7 from the line and 2-8 shooting and 0-3 from 3 just won't cut it no matter how great your defensive skills are at UK or any other school.

Kinda makes you wonder...what gives? He was not a terrible shooter in HS. I get college is a different animal at UK but come on...surely he can shoot better from 3 and from the FT line than what he has given us so far.

Or you can simply bench him and play somebody else until he learns basic fundamentals of basketball.
If you get a full ride at the University of Kentucky in men's basketball, you sure as hell should already have the basic fundamentals down. At least that is what I believe.[/QUOTE]

The easy fix for Briscoe's shooting is spending a lot of time in the gym working on it. It is obvious that his previous coaches failed him by simply allowing him to run up an down the court shooting layups instead of forcing him to work on his shooting.

Thank you. And, fwiw, you could find similar ball in the palm snapshots for nearly EVERY player.

Cracks me up when I see these message board marvels thinking they can fix a guys shooting woes based on a photograph. Over the years I've seen some of the best shooters in NBA history (see Reggie Miller, Larry Brid, Micheal Adams, Jamal Wilkes, etc.) break every single rule there is about shooting form, and I've seen plenty of guys with textbook perfect shooting form who were nonetheless awful shooters.

I don't know what the source of Briscoe's current shooting misery is, but I'm pretty sure the problem ain't gonna be resolved by a message board poster on Rupp Rafters.
Agree.
