Arcia didn’t even say anything bad, the braves just choked

Always amuses me when people say a team chokes, especially when it is in baseball. Teams play 162 games over an almost 6 month regular season playing usually 6 games every 7 days. In a long season like that, there are peaks and valleys. It's often been said that every team in MLB will win 50 games and they will lose 50 games, it's what happens in the other 62 that determine who's the best team(s).

After that marathon of a regular season, the playoffs are a sprint with the first team to either 2 wins in the WC round, 3 in the DS, 4 in the LCS and 4 in the World Series. Teams that get hot at the right moment more times than not will win a short series like that as evidenced over the years. Especially since the playoffs have expanded.

Pre-1969 - the first year of playoffs - the teams that won the regular season in each league met in the Series and usually the best team won. Now with more teams qualifying - which makes everything more exciting - the chances for the best team to win actually decreases. In the past 2 years in the latest expansion of playoff teams the 2 teams in each league that received byes, only 1 of the 4 each season advanced. The "reward" for being the best team all season seems to be anything but an advantage.

Bottom line a team doesn't usually choke, the other team happens to get hot at the right time. In the Braves case 3 years ago the Dodgers, and the Astros in the WS didn't choke rather Atlanta got hot and was playing better at the time.

P.S. for the Reds fan who made the claim of "talking shit". Seems a few short months ago on these same message boards some Reds fans were talking pretty loud about their team and a certain rookie who they were claiming the best prospect since Mickey Mantle and was already one of the top players in the game after a 3 or 4 week hot streak to start his career. Talk of Rookie of the Year and future MVP awards were a foregone conclusion. I believe all that talk got to smelling pretty bad 💩 as the season wore on.

P.S.S. for the record I like him and believe EDLC is going to be a very good player for several years. Either for the Reds or who knows, he might join a good team.[winking][winking][winking]

After 2 decades because your ilk got mad that he dare mention Obama. Keep smoking dope and hoping for your boys in DC to legalize you wasting your life. Enjoy buddy!

I mean the braves did choke baseball is hard and the postseason is random as hell but the Braves should be losing to the Phillies in back to back postseason

You just said in your reply the postseason is random as hell. Explain how - if something is random - can you say team A (in this case the Braves) should/shouldn't be losing to team B (in this case the Phillies) ? That would imply that the postseason isn't random.

Over the regular season Atlanta was 8 - 5 vs Philadelphia. Atlanta was the overall better team as those results were across 4 series (2 in ATL, 2 in PHL) at different stages of the season. From that you could say the Braves should win. However, in a short series in the playoffs none of that matters, ergo the randomness.

What I'm referring to really doesn't have anything to do with specific teams as it has repeatedly happened. Excuses can be made such as the team with the week off (after playing regularly 6 of 7 days/week for over 5 1/2 months) loses rhythm. You could say MLB doesn't re-seed teams at the end of each series like the other sports do. You can say yada-yada-yada about a number of things. Bottom line the post season baseball is pretty much completely random which makes it great, if not necessarily fair.

Again this is just my opinion. After playing for years and years, more than I can count 🤪, I've seen it way too many times and been through it as well.

You can’t lose to a wildcard teams twice in a row and it be the same team. That’s choking and not being prepared. The postseason is random at times but the Phillies kicked the Braves ass 2 years in a row

😂😂😂😂

It's kind of a shame this didn't happen back in the mid-70's when the players were like Pete Rose (you remember, back when the Reds were actually relevant) and guys who literally died inside a little bit when they lost. Harper probably wouldn't have hit another homer, not in that game anyway as he would have taken one in the ribs or up around his cute little throat slash.

It also must be sad to cheer for a team and the most joy you get is from seeing other teams fail instead of your team actually accomplishing anything.

Guarantee, I'm not as sad as you right now.

Much like the Reds, you'd lose that bet. I'm not sad at all. Do I wish the Braves would have won, of course. Personally I'd rather see anyone other than PHL or maybe Houston win. Philadelphia's biggest sports star is a fictitious boxer from the movies. I've seen the Braves winning 2 World Series wins and dozens of playoff wins, including the game 2 comeback just this past Monday in person. When was the last time you saw the Reds win anything ? I bet I've seen the Reds win since you have.

Just for the record, I doubt you are even a Reds fan. Rather one of poor pathetic souls who was never very good and either got picked last or not even at all when it came to choosing teams as a kid. Lead to a lifetime of just trying to make yourself feel good by getting joy from someone else's letdown.

Go get in front of a mirror and keep telling yourself

Doubtful, but maybe
