Brad White and Wake Forest

Readng articles about the job and I saw about 9 bigger names rumored for it

I like White. I'm afraid if he wants an P4 hc job, even Wake Forest, he needs to move to a bigger school as dc or slum at the worst G5 first.

From reading their 247 board sounds like White may be on their short list.
That is if their other options fall through. I don’t know if he would want that job even if it his Alma Mater. Especially if the ACC is picked apart like the transfer portal and the bigger teams jump to the SEC and Big10

Yep and let NC take Vince!

Name them please. None of the names that I have seen make more sense specifically for Wake and that prospective coach than White does.

These titles aren't names. Not even naming them says all we need to know. But I do see this list came from one guy on Athlon Sports, who also included Brad White as one of his "potential 10".

Neal Brown: Really? I like him as a person and all, but he's not the right hire when he was just fired at WVU.

Garrett Riley: He's only 35. I don't know what makes him a bigger name or better hire for Wake Forest than an alum with 5-years of experience as an SEC coordinator?

Wake Forest is a program that values stability over the coach who wants a stepping stone. Where is the "fit" for anybody other than Brad White? That would probably be his forever job if he had any success.

Was wondering when the WKU guy and Wash St were going to start pinging on radars.

Good hire by Wake.

Would keep an eye on him. If he gets them to bowl caliber or better, he's going to be a guy to look at. Same for WKU dude. I suspect he's going to get some more calls, if he does well at his next stop, go ahead and get his contact information as well for the rolodex.

Also, once again, the legend of Stoops and staff greatly overexaggerated.

This is where it should be noted that Dickert is Currie’s first football coach hire at Wake Forest. He started at his alma mater in spring of 2019; in his previous athletics director role, he was fired at Tennessee amid a publicly disastrous football coaching search.

When he was fired from the post at Tennessee, he was reportedly lining up then-Washington State coach Mike Leach to be the Vols’ next coach.

Lol, I forgot that he was the guy behind the Tennessee debacle.

LOL, get pissed if a UK coach is considered, get pissed if coach not hired.

I disagree that it was a good hire. If you're going to hire a guy from a mid-major, you might as well get one of the better ones. This dude just ended his season with 3 straight losses:

5-7 New Mexico State
5-7 Oregon State
3-9 Wyoming

Just a weird hire imo.

see how real teams in the SEC treat ADs for mistakes in the football program. UK could learn something but they won’t

I wonder if they share the same agent?

Texas A&M fans were calling this out around the Stoops saga last year: When there's smoke, follow the agents

I was right.
You were wrong.

Folks we're not talking about Ohio State here.

It's Wake Forest. He won 8 games this season. At 41, he is clearly not even near his coaching prime but seemingly on the upswing.

Programs like Wake and ours among others don't get first pick of cream of the crop. They hope to catch a guy with potential before he pops and bigger, better schools start to pay attention.

No where did I remotely indicate anger. I don't care if UK coaches get hired away or not.

Just making an observation after multiples seasons in which there is a lot of hub bub about UK staff. Lot of talking about staff being highly sought after...lots of openings every year that ultimately select other candidates.

I'm not even saying it won't happen as it is inevitable at this point seeing how things are trending. Hope for the best, but I think the way things are trending next season or two could see a lot of turnover and staff ending up elsewhere. So I suppose in that instance you could view coaches fleeing or being told to flee as being "hired away"

Washington St. isn't really a mid-major but I don’t know if this a great hire anyway. No ties to the South that I can see.

And this is precisely why White should have been in contention for the job. There is no obvious fit to the hire they made. No connections to the South or the east coast. NONE. The closest he has ever come to coaching in North Carolina was a 1-year stint at Southeast Missouri St.

It's very odd, but the AD has already shown that he doesn't know what he's doing in regards to football and that's what got him fired at Tennessee.

How are they not a mid major? They went 15-16/9-13 under him when they were in the PAC12 and they went 8-4 under him when they played a MWC schedule. They are now 100% a mid-major now. They are not in any of the Power 4 conferences.

Totally understand we aren't talking about Ohio State here. My point is, if you're going to hire a coach from a G5 school, there are a lot better options than him imo. I would have gone after a guy like Jamey Chadwell. Deep roots in the south (which the Wazoo guy doesn't have) and success at multiple levels.

Think Chadwell may have some NCAA baggage altho nowadays guys wear it as a badge of courage.
