There.

Somebody had to say it!

Yes, Dennis Johnson, Antonio Hall, Justin Rogers and many others were big time recruits, and some blew up when they got here . . . Josh Allen being the most decorated Kentucky football player in history absent recruiting buzz, buuuuut

From the recruiting perspective, alone, given the early timing of his commitment, and his status as one of the best Quarterbacks in either the ‘24 or ‘25 Class, this is a huge, HUGE deal.

I now expect that Kentucky football will be an annual contender for the 12 playoff spots beginning next season.

That is all!

Respectfully, too soon for these astronomical expectations. I am happy we have Boley's commitment. Glad to see you are also happy. But let's see what the kid can do after he gets settled in. Couch was the overall #1 NFL draft choice. We will be darned lucky if Boley has nearly as good and as healthy of a career as TC did here.

I foresaw your response, Rembrandt. . . .

And made NO reference to individual “astronomical expectations,” nor even a prediction Boley will make it to campus except to extrapolate our likely continuing success as a team, given the strength in recruiting. Boley will have a strong ripple effect (even should he not individually pan out).

I limited my thoughts to “the recruiting perspective, alone.”

And I will stick by it: from the perspective of a recruiting victory, in an age where millions of dollars are tossed at unproven prospects, this is out highest profile, and highest potential impact commitment since Tim Couch.

I am glad you are happy. Me too. The part that makes me happiest is the instant recruiting influence of Coach Coen, and I will be very interested to see who else he attracts into this class. Football is a team sport.

Every signing is a recruiting victory. Until they play, we never know who will overachieve, underachieve, or get hurt. As I said on another thread, I was ecstatic when UK signed Kiyaunta Goodwn, Jared Casey, Matt Elam, and Drew Barker. But I barely noticed when UK signed Benny Snell, Bunchy Stallings, and Josh Allen, all three of whom became UK All Americans. This is how I have learned to wait a couple of years before allowing myself to pass judgment on signings and recruiting classes. It saves me a lot of frustration and keeps me on an even keel.

Let him help draw a few more 4 * commits in June before crowning him!! LoL. 👑
Appreciate the passion and excitement!

Question: how much time is Cutter allowed to spend with Coen watching film, training, etc. I'm sure there are many limitations as there are with any recruit. Any information would be appreciated.

I’ve seen recruits who have reported 10-15 unofficial visits along with their sole official visit.

Justin Rogers damn near lived with Bully McCall the last 18 months of his recruitment, apparently attending practices on the sidelines.

If Cutter finds himself “hanging out” a lot, in the vicinity of Coen and the program, I think it is common.

But given he is a January enrollee, and has his own season to play, how much time will he have?

Listen, I know both of you are very excited about Boley’s commitment for both UK football’s future and for CMS. CMS really deserves this.. Thi/ is a cornerstone moment for the program with a plethora of offensive recruiting implications for 2024 and beyond. Enjoy this moment. This s special time to be a UK football fan!

The Coen effect and a great move by both CMS to let Scan go quickly after the regular season and Barnhart for working out the money to get Coen back here. Had we kept Scang another season, none of this would have been possible and we may have had so many playmakers hit the portal that it would have been a disaster to recover from. Not to mention we signed one of the top two portal QBs. Getting Boley’s commitment coupled to what we all hope is a good season could really help this program take a huge step imo.

Exactly.

Consider our position. We have finished 4th or better among SEC defenses since 2019 . . . and recruiting that side of the ball has become pretty easy for us. Out-of-state 4 Star commitments are pretty standard for us on the defensive side of the ball. Being ranked in the Top 15 in the nation and Top 2, 3 or 4 in the SEC in both scoring and total defense has become so expected, it hardly draws commentary from the press or posters.

Our greatest risk was (and is) getting stuck in neutral on offensive production, and becoming the Iowa of the SEC. Frankly, right now, we are the Iowa of the SEC: annual defensive giants, but inconsistent offensively.

For Stoops to continue the climb, offensive production is the key. We can only improve marginally defensively, as we are so close to the top. But our potential improvement on offense is huge, and central to assaulting the top of the mountain in the SEC.

At the time, I felt getting invited to the Taxslayer Bowl in 2016 was an enormous step forward for our program. We didn't play very well and lost that game to GA Tech, but it was UK's first bowl trip since 2010 and Stoops' first bowl of his hc career. So, at the time, you could feel UK's football culture beginning to turn. Everything that has happened since then has been built on renovated football facilities and growth of our recruiting and staff payroll budgets. It has seemed like one inch of new ground at a time. Stoops is a grinder and he is relentless.

I have been fortunate enough to attend most of Stoops' bowl games. Like you say, this is a special time to be a UK football fan. I sincerely believe we have not yet seen Stoops' top achievements at UK. This is coming at a time when UK's basketball program is struggling to maintain our traditional standards, so our football success is just that much more fascinating and endearing.

People get very excited when "4 star" recruits commit. The internet has trained us to think this way. For me, it is still about results on the field. I feel bad for Matt Elam, Drew Barker, and Jared Casey, but those experiences taught me to wait a couple of years before judging a recruiting class. My favorite Wildcats have been Randall Cobb, Benny Snell, and Josh Allen. All three very lightly recruited. I believe in Boley. I want him to stay healthy and be developed the right way. Let's see TD passes. Let's see a successful career that gets him onto the list of our all time best QBs. That is the point, right?

Next man up.

Correct...I'm ecstatic with Boley's commitment, but we've been here before. Everybody offered this kid so that's great. It's always in the pudding. That said...GO CATS!!!

Personally…I thought Dennis Johnson was a bigger get as he was a five star and some had him top rated defensive recruit in entries country

But Boley is huge in his own right. But the thought if we csn get a big time offense rolling under stoops that we’ve never had is probably what makes the potential of Boley so much more hype

My only concern with Boley is so much of his video is throwing wjtb not much pressure in his fade and a clean pocket….that won’t be the case at Ky or Sec in general. I’m interested to see how quick he can get the ball out and accurate

Absolutely.

Am I excited? Of course I am.

Have I ever been this excited before about a UK commitment? Yes, several times.

Should Boley have an impact career at UK? Sure. That's what I am expecting.

Are there any unfortunate possibilities that could undercut Boley's UK career? I don't want to think about it, but there are. Injuries, for example. I haven't forgotten Barker. I haven't forgotten any highly regarded UK player who didn't pan out. Or JT Daniels. Or Emory Jones. Or Bo Nix.

Will Boley start our 2024 opener? Because he will participate in 2024 spring practice, that is a possibility. But Trevor Lawrence didn't start until Kelly Bryant was benched. CJ Stroud redshirted. Caleb Williams understudied Spencer Rattler until Rattler was benched. Tua Tagovailoa mostly sat through his freshman season until the playoffs. One could say these were not analogous situations. But freshman QBs usually don't start, even when highly rated. This boils down to what Stoops and Coen decide is best for the team, and they won't make that decision for another 15 months.

At the end of the day, Boley is built like an NFL QB. He is smart and he has a capable OC at UK. So, yes, I expect him to be successful and I believe his commitment will attract other top offensive players. I expect UK's offense to put more points on the board.

Every star HS quarterback film is like this! You'll never see Arch Manning scrambling for his life against Louisiana catholic league. Or Dylan Raiola having the line cave in after the snap.

I read an interview with Tim Couch on another site recently and Tim had been watching Boley quite a bit live and film. His comments were simply off the chart. He listed about a dozen traits that make for a great QB and said Boley "checks all the boxes". He went on to say that he was the best quarterback he had ever seen AT THAT AGE.

I mean if these were comments coming from an ESPN analyst or even a coach I would take them with a grain of salt, but this is coming from a former #1 draft choice quarterback. Take it for what it's worth, but after reading this, if I were offered the 3 Million dollar Texas commit in exchange for Boley I would turn it down.

It is going to be very interesting what rivals & 247 do reclassing and re ranking Boley in the 24 class

Perfectly said, almost like I did it myself. Get out of my head Hack!!

At the time, keeping Dennis Johnson was huge. Hiring his father as an assistant AD sealed that deal. Johnson was one heck of a great player on a bad defense.

But Boley is huge in his own right. But the thought if we csn get a big time offense rolling under stoops that we’ve never had is probably what makes the potential of Boley so much more hype

These comments are spot on. All great QBs dominate in hs, and then have to adapt to the college game. Stay healthy, master the route sets, get the ball out before a DE or LB knocks you into the next county, and put the ball in the small throwing window on time. Boley has the length and frame to do it. The key here is Coach Coen. Coen has coached Matthew Stafford and Baker Mayfield in a pro offense. He developed Will Levis. It doesn't have a long record of experience, but he can teach the position as well as anyone. The litmus test for Coen's young coordinator career will be developing Boley and keeping him from taking too many big hits. Also a litmus test for Zach Yenser.

Obviously not a UK football fan for long eh?

Before it’s all said and done, he’ll be a 2-star
This unfortunately.

As soon as a player commits to UK he starts to slip down the rankings. Happens every time.

I fully expect him to be outside the top 100 at the least when he signs.

Not sure we are contending for the playoff every season. We play in the SEC and it's a deep and talented conference.

It's not like everyone else is gonna just roll over for UK to let that happen.

100% Even if he doesn't play a game, it's the fact that 'Kentucky' got a huge OFFENSIVE skill position commitment and that looks great on paper and to other recruits all over.

This is paranoia. And it doesn't matter anyway. The only thing that matters is the performance on the field. Low player ratings didn't stop Benny Snell or Josh Allen from getting it done.

That’s the point I’m making.

This is free ink, coast-to-coast, right-damn-now, with no need to know the future results.

If Iowa lands a Top 5 QB, tonight, there will be headlines in the morning: and the same with us.

Guess who follows recruiting even closer than us middle-aged men with too little to do . . . .

That’s right, the high school players themselves do, and they have a twitter universe I dare not tread. Do ya’ think, maybe Boley’s commit has lit up Twitter?

It will expand to around 25 next year when that class is SRs. It is always that way.
Yes.

And typically tops out at 37 or 38.

That’s why I like Rivals’ analysis. Pretty consistent from year-to-year, and they have a phenomenal record on 5 Stars being drafted . . . like 50 or 60% of Rivals’ five-star players get drafted.
