I’m not sure what film you’re watching. I’ve watched the Duke game three times and will agree we were fortunate to win, but I dispute the notion that we rely solely on the three. I see a team that starts at least three outstanding defenders, excellent passers all over the court and creates offense in transition. Not a perfect team but a darn good one

Luckily in CBB, and shoot even in the NBA (except for playoffs) you only need to beat a team once. We beat Duke with an inside game.

I think you are misunderstanding or mislabeling the offensive forte of the team. It is not live by the three/die by the three as in “the three is the only option on offense”.

It is, however, having multiple threats from 3 on the floor at all times. Sometimes that means you fill it up from behind the arc, or in Pope’s system, sometimes those multiple threats opens the floor allowing for great driving and/or cutting lanes for easy buckets at the rim. Up till now, I would argue this team has won because of better than expected, above average defense.


At the end of the day, EVERY team lives by the three or dies by it…you are either winning by making enough of them or losing because the other team does.

I’m just glad to finally root for a team that

1. has potential to either kill you by filling it up behind the arc OR
2. by preventing the other team from doing so defensively…
3. Has a coach that will change things up to maximize the chances to take advantage of either 1 or 2 above.

I on the other hand believe our CATS would win 8 out of 10 times. They will still mostly be young and inexperienced and we will still be more mature and experienced. Have to also look at our second half defense really shutting down everyone but Flagg, Flaggs 3 late turnovers basically helped us win. We took advantage of those opportunities! Also DON"T forget our supposed best player only scored 1 pt. I believe he would score a minimum of 12-15 ppg in the fantasy rematches. Thus we win 8 of 10! GBB

We have a perimeter oriented team. No doubt. But we've got guys that don't necessarily NEED to shoot at range. They're called SHOT MAKERS for a reason. And they've shown that, proven that, already. So perhaps labelling them as a live by 3, die it team is not really what you've got. And that's a good thing, if you're looking for substance to believe in.

Cals teams here LACKED shot makers, by and large. So you must feel better at this point.

The team has got good size, good depth. I think the that will become more obvious as we play better opponents. We've got really good defensively minded players, proven at this level. So in a rock fight against, say the Vols.... Ask yourself :

Would you rather have Oweh and Butler & co. Or zz & Lanier ? I think we've got a good edge there. We shall see. And that doesn't mention Amare, Garrison, and Carr to body up when it gets physical, as it surely will against the SEC teams especially. We're built to withstand that rigor.

And I'm not going to go down a list further than that for players and skillets. Either you can see we can hold our own or not.
