The stadium will soon be filled to overflowing again, all we need is some wins----- and the wins are coming.

UK AVERAGED 67,000 attendance with a team that finished 3-5 in the SEC-------------with ONE four star on offense and two on defense-----there are a LOT of players on this team now worth paying to see play at almost all the positions, and maybe more important among the backups also,

Mitch has some areas where he needs some work, i agree 100%. But this notion that he is a piss poor AD is crazy.

In my line of work you don't get a massive raise that will amount to millions of dollars if you have "some areas where he needs some work". You get fired. THAT is why people are upset about the money being thrown his way at our expense.

I don't think he's a terrible AD. He's just mediocre. I don't why it has to be a guy is great or horrible. He's not either, he's bottom half but not bottom quarter IMO.

And THAT justifies this kind of a contract extension?

I mentioned in a previous post of mine that he is a dream AD for University Administrators. Maybe not for fans (which is what I meant by him needing work in some areas), but for the ones that write the check, he is an absolute dream.

I can't believe anyone could womens basketball against Mitch. UK was always horrible at womens basketball in the 50+ years prior to his hire.

You can use other things against Mitch, but give me a break if you want to use women's basketball.

You're either related to Barnhart or on his payroll if you are genuinely trying to argue that the current state of the women's basketball team in any way justifies Barnhart's huge raise.

Football is struggling as much as it ever has but at least now it has the infrastructure to compete. Baseball is horrendous as its ever been. Women basketball is better than its ever been, I guess you can wait and cross your fingers and hope it falters for your agendas sake. Men's basketball is great, softball is a top 25 program and is better than its ever been, same for track and field. Volleyball and soccer are strong. Mitch Barnhart has done a great job.

I see a pattern.

1. Sporting event fails to succeed.
2. Fans complain.
3. Other fans accuse complaining fans of wanting sporting event to fail to succeed.

Absolutely IRRATIONAL and utterly childish.

He deserves it. He's a great AD and we're lucky to have him. Anyone bashing Barnhart is just silly, close minded and doesn't really understand what a good AD is. Not every hire is going to be a home run.

Please. Barnhart's had 1 home run hire. 1 HR in how many hires, 10-12?

To be fair to Mitch...this is what I've seen in him:
Pro:
1. Rich Brooks hire
2. Calipari hire is a huge homerun (even if insiders had to force him on Cal).

Cons:
1. Tubby Smith massive extension in 2003
2. Joker Phillips hire
3. Billy Gillaspie hire was a massive bad decision
4. Stoops hire has not panned out
5. I'd also categorize the Stoops extension in year 2 as a seperate bad decision

I don't comment either way on any other sport as none are major $$$ or attended programs. Baseball is such a small niche sport, all the womens' sports are just not watched nor draw $$$ so I really don't give much credit negative or positive on those. THe $$$ pouring into all SEC schools is awesome but I can't give ADs credit for something that would have happened anyway with or without them. If Larry Ivy/CM Newton were the ADs...the same SEC contract money would be pouring into to UK.

So in the end...Mitch has twice as many mistakes as he does good decisions at UK. I for sure don't want him picking the next coach but UK's good ole boy network has already extended him and it's almost a slam dunk Mitch picks the next coach given HIS crazy extension as well.

Damn -- so many necros after yesterday's game. On the one hand, I feel sorry for the people thinking this would be a banner year for the sport. This is beyond awful. On the other hand, I don't see how can you predict great things like some did in July without seeing
1) critical wins from Stoops on the field during his time here.
2) a single play from the team this year.

In the future, it's best to wait until you see the product before you buy it. Otherwise the only decent assessments you can make are based on past experience.

Mitch got a contract extension and raise going up to $925,000.00 per year. At a time when UK is going through layoffs for teachers while tuition is being raised, that is a bold raise for Barnhart. Considering the poor performance of the football team under Mitch's guidance, I'm surprised that he got such a massive raise. I don't think the AD at most SEC schools could survive such a bad result in football.

Good to see that you are wiser about managing UK's athletics department than UK's Board of Trustees is. How come they aren't doing it your way?

Shows you just how much internet posters know. I know we wanted to win right away with Stoops but looking back the talent was just not there. Heck, compared to title contenders it’s still not close. He has done a good job of managing our program. He has integrity and loyalty. What more can you ask for Except a roster full of 5 stars? Only two people on the face of the planet could pull that off. Nick Saban or Kirby Smart. Neither is coming to Kentucky.
