Once the new scoreboard is put up and Big Bertha comes down. If you were in charge to find a resting place for Big Bertha. What ideas would you come up with to transform her or would you just dismantle and trash the big girl? I think she could be transformed and become a piece of art that is displayed either outside Rupp or inside somewhere in the bldg.

Big Bertha would be perfect for the Doof Warrior mobile.

Buy a piece of land on UL's campus then put it on top of a massive pole and blare "On, On, U of K" every morning like Reveille...

I was thinking blow it up until I saw this. This is a better idea than Useless Trivia!! (Which should make a comeback BTW)

Some of you don't know what type of speakers are in the cluster. It is built with Voice of the Theater speakers by Altec Lansing. Look them up and you will find many articles, forum threads about great these speakers were then and still are. They are still real valuable.

Then they should use the speakers at the Singletary Center. Worst sound system I've ever heard. Even worse acoustics.

A lot of fans will be real upset when they get replaced by some smaller POS speakers sold to Rupp like they are the next best things since slice bread. You won't be able to hear what the announcer says because they will need to be overdriven to get some volume out of them. The bottom line is you are dealing with Physics when you need to fill up a room or building and you need big speakers to do that.

I have a system in my home that was built in the 60"s that i have about 4 grand in it and people come over to listen to it that have $20,000 new smaller systems and they are floored that my old system kicks their asses when it come to the quality of sound. Your dealing with sound waves people, it's not what it looks like that is important. New is not always better.

My friend Bertha is an eye sore and that is all that needs to be said.

I'm excited to have better sound at Rupp. The Yum has a kick butt sound system that sounds awesome. With Bertha, loud music just made my ears hurt and there was very little bass. Let's get Rupp "kickin".

Every other arena in the country seems to be able to handle it with smaller and more modern speaker systems, soooo its hard for me to get behind what you're saying.

Ever been to Staples Center in LA? Or Madison Square Garden? Amazing sound systems and acoustics, and you don't see giant speakers that look like a wasp nest hanging from the ceiling.

So no, in this case, newer is definitely better.

I was thinking pretty much the same thing. I had some older bigger speakers in my house that were great and I loved them but I downsized to smaller, but quality, speakers and enjoy them just as much, if not more, and without gobbling up all the space in my house. Some of the newer stuff is fantastic but some people just hate to let go of older generation stuff, I get that. As for Big Bertha, I'll just be happy to see it gone and replaced with new boards in the center of the arena with all sorts of info displayed on a modern screen with great sound. Can only make the trip to Rupp that much more enjoyable. I could care less what they do with Big Bertha, good riddance.

I too have a beautiful Home theater sound system a mixture of old and new. It's not about age it's about specifications. The adage you get what you pay for is true to an extent. That's why there' an Ebay. For Rupp, maybe something like this to replace the butt ugly wasp nest.

What kind of system do you have?

I apologize if I started an argument over this small issue. I didn't mean to. I am sure there are a lot of smaller systems that sound great and I will leave it at that.

You made some good points. I'm sure with the money they are spending for professionals to design and install it, they are getting an adequate system for the space.
