Totally get why someone would pick Gunsmoke, but for me Bonanza was more enjoyable.

Bonanza was ruined by fake backgrounds.
Gunsmoke is hands down the best. The last few seasons werent as great as it shifted to guest stars dominating the episodes and Matt would come in at the end of the episode and kill the bad guys.
How the west was won was great as well. Arness was a fantastic actor

Not really considered a western I don't think but when I was a kid, my favorite was Daniel Boone with Fess Parker. Of the ones listed though, I'd have to go with Gunsmoke then the rifleman

I think Rawhide is underrated.
First couple seasons Amanda Blake was hot. She gained weight fast smoked 3 packs a day and aged really fast.
When I was a kid, Alias Smith and Jones probably got me into westerns. So there's probably a group of people that are 55 to 65 that rank it higher than everybody else.
I flip it on to Pluto at least once a week a watch a episode or two of Gunsmoke.

Good movie! Band of Brothers though is one of my all time favorite shows/movies/series.
Lot of people have told me I look like Matt Damon. So that is me in about 30 years.
IIRC they initially wanted John Wayne to play the role. He wanted to focus on movies but recommended James Arness. Worked out pretty well.
Gunsmoke but more specifically the black and white episodes up to season 12. I'm currently reading the James Arness autobiography. The man was a badass on and off the screen.
He had to film most of his walking scenes early in the day due to the fact that he had part of his foot shot off at Anzio Beach in WWII.

Gunsmoke and it’s not even close! The B&W episodes were better in my opinion. Those green walls in the Longbranch were hideous lol.
I voted for Gunsmoke but I liked Bonanza too. Just think that Gunsmoke was better.
Honorable mention for Tales from Wells Fargo. Jim Hardie was the James Bond of the West.

Fun fact: One of the characters portrayed in Alias Smith and Jones was based on real life outlaw and 2nd cousin (3 times removed) of mine, Harvey "Kid Curry" Logan, whose father was born in Morehead.

I'd pick Gunsmoke. The High Chaparral was another good one.
I am not a direct descendant but am a great (some number of) nephew of the Younger's. I need to double check, that might be a cousin Anyway, don't mess with me.

Has to be Maverick for me. Brett Maverick was the epitome of cool while also self-deprecating. He didn't claim to be brave or good with a gun, etc. as in most Westerns. He was just smarter than everybody else and used those wits to play poker for a living. Loved the Rifleman, Rawhide - well, basically all of them to varying degrees. But Maverick is still my favorite. Everybody who loves those old TV Westerns has their favorites - and I can understand why. As a kid I wouldn't watch the old black and white episodes of any of them, which was my loss. I discovered eventually that the stories in those B & W episodes were the best.
Missing: The Big Valley starring female badass Barbara Stanwyck and EKU alum Harvey Yeary, aka Lee Majors.
Went to school with some twins named Brett and Bart .lol
Loved the Maverick character and personna which I felt was carried over to The Rockford Files.
