After the BG and Joker fiascos, and more recently with Elzy, I thought the “adults” at UK knew that they could let MB run the athletic department administratively and deal with the minor sports but when big decisions needed to be made - hiring FB and Men’s BB coach - the adults would step in and guide the process. That happened when Mike Pratt was commissioned to hire Cal with MB riding in the back seat.
Where are the adults at UK now? The President and Board of Trustees? If they are on board with this hire, then they have absolutely no sense of the colossal failure of a coaching search this has become or the sentiment of the supporters of UK Athletics.
This is a panic hire by MB. He goes from Dan Hurley to Mark Pope in 12 hours? There are at least dozens of coaches out there with much better credentials than Pope.
I haven’t had much respect for MB’s AD abilities since the GB/Joker fiascos. He has now turned the most proud college basketball tradition, and one of the iconic brands in all of sports, into a laughing stock.
