Barnhart Discusses UK's Tourney Seeding and Rooferees

The FBI is busy with serial killers, terrorist, and drug lords. I do not see the FBI
placing avid fans in jail for losing their cool.

]Let's see:

Men's BB #5 nationally and elite 8 or better almost every year (because he did what fans wanted the 1st time after an inexcusable hire of a known drunk with no contract.)
FB competing for SEC East (don't make me laugh, but after he underfunded football for 10 years to build the programs below and the fans revolted. )
Baseball #8 nationally (who gives a shit)
W BB Sweet 16 and #4 seed (programs a disaster with over paid coach but, who gives a shit)
W Track and Field #5 nationally (who gives a shit)
Gymnastics #12 nationally (who gives a shit)
Softball #19 nationally (who gives a shit)
Tennis #23 nationally (who gives a shit)
M Soccer #23 nationally (who gives a shit)
Volleyball #24 nationally (who gives a shit)
W Soccer #25 nationally (who gives a shit)

Mitch is obviously an abject failure.

And I'll add, perception of the UK fan base is at an all time low. I noticed you only listed the programs where we are good? How about listing them all?

ADs are judged in 3 areas: athletic success, academic success, and whether or not they run clean programs. I challenge you to show me, empirically not emotionally, how he is currently failing. Please give me data.

I've always judged ADs by how they feed the bell cow )football), and how football generates the ROI. Although Motch was '"late to the party for football projects", he's still better than his predecessors.

He is on the committee for the next 4 years, what did you expect him to say.He can't throw them under the bus right now. I've never really been a big fan of his but he is not as bad as some make him out to be.Maybe he needs a little Tom Jurich in him but not too much

As someone else said if we knew he was working for all the programs as hard as he could behind the scenes then what he says in public wouldn't be at issue but I just don't get that feeling.

Reward the teams for doing well . Let the 1 seeds all be able to choose their 16 seed opponent and location . Then the 2 seeds pick the 15 seed and location is determined by blind draw etc etc .

Pretty simple, comments he has made, think microwave fans, has pissed the fans off and they just don't trust him.

I think he is intentionally marginalizing the fans that need to be distanced from the program. It's pretty clear that we have some that aren't a good fit. We definitely have some UL and NC caliber fans mooning the program and thinking they are justified.

I think we have also some fans that are politically infantile as well. If he tried the sort of ham handed maneuvering that some would like to see, he would simply find himself unneeded. In a paper mache organization like the NCAA, it's really easy to find yourself outside looking in. The best targets in the world are the ones with their nose to the glass.

That said, the easy way out for him was to just be silent. However he has definitely exposed the lunatic fringe element in the fan base and labeled them as not who we are. In doing so, he's protected his program from the vomitus spewed by a sliver of the fan base at the end of the season. That's his job. If it was his intention, I have to say, pretty smooth move.

The guy is doing a very good job.

He called out the trash, the trash got super mad on message boards because they are powerless to do anything else. Pretty funny if you think about it.

You don't say?

Based on that, if there really were death threats we should have heard about arrests by now, correct?

I wouldn't bet against arrests. It isn't like they can snap their fingers and all of the IP records appear. It is doable.....

Been what, 3 weeks?

Good job believing a dumb idiot Kentucky hating ref though.

You are doing a much better job being ignorant. I never took up for him. I just said it was stupid as hell to threaten the man. They went to his FB page, his web site and his home phone. (FACT!) That is just out right crazy and if you think they can't trace some of these idiots then get in line with them. None of those idiots are going to get on here and brag about having charges brought against them for being stupid! Regardless, anyone that thinks this was a good idea or funny are just as guilty as the idiots that sent those messages. Open you eyes "Stevie" and look about. There are real problems by the hundreds that deserve to be bitched about. BASKETBALL IS JUST A GAME!

UK as a 2 seed in the South wasn't the problem. Playing in Indy and Memphis favors the U.K. Fans. The biggest problem was underseeding Wichita State and UCLA. No way should UCLA have been a three. They had been in the top 5 all year long. WSU had been in the top 15-20. They wanted rematches because of economics. Everything goes back to money. Putting U.K. in the same bracket with UNC and UCLA was a revenue generator - nothing else. Let the computer set the seedings...that takes the business decisions out of it.

Underseeding the 10 seed was the problem? So what seed should they have gotten with their resume with zero quality wins? Unless it's something lower than a 7 seed, what are you complaining about? Dayton should complain, it shouldn't matter to the 2 seed.

But UCLA was ranked 15-20 in most computer systems......they would have a WORSE seed if computers picked.

What he said plays well with any other university that might want to hire him.It doesn't work at Kentucky...

Just want to break this down so I can try to understand...

Denouncing death threats is the norm...but at UK normal is unacceptable. That's pretty much what you just said.

So, Mitch should have done what? Applauded the nut wing of the BBN?

and then the trash stayed home instead of filling the stadium and forced him to replace his friend, that was a little amusing also
Then I got a parking pass after 10 years waiting, the program is better than its ever been, Barnhart is well respected to people who matter, and you're still mad. Seems everyone is happy except for you, living that dumpster life has to be miserable I guess.

I'd like to ask Barnhart how in the heck did the committee try to layout the red carpet again for Puke? Thank God USC messed it up & sent the sissy boys home.

So he is standing up against his own "lunatic"
fans while making nice with crooked officials, committees, and morons who are out to screw the program while allowing UNC and the ilk to roam free. And that qualifies as a good job?

I never said that death threats are acceptable. You are trying to twist words to fit your agenda.

I never said that death threats are acceptable. You are trying to twist words to fit your agenda.

Again...what did you expect him to do?

I get that h was getting some heat from the national press to make these statements, but come on Mitch. Don't throw your fans under the bus.

Speaking of twisting...was he talking about all UK fans or just a small segment of nut jobs? You put words in his mouth.

"Barnhart said UK had “one of the classiest fan bases in college basketball.” The death threats and postings on the website came from “a very, very small number of people..."

Indeed...a very small number. Not "UK Fans"...just the crybully wing.

And so back to your post:

"What he said plays well with any other university that might want to hire him. It doesn't work at Kentucky"

What does that mean? What did he say that doesn't work at UK? Upsetting the lunatic wing of fans?

I'm not being ignorant.

Higgins claimed there were death threats. You believe the POS and said they can be traced(which we all know). Therefore, half a month later we should have seen some corroborative evidence. Some people should be in jail if Higgins was telling the truth. Unless there weren't death threats...

Jesus...it's not just Higgins making the claim.

"Matt Barrall of the Sarpy County Sheriff's Department said he has identified 450 phone calls or messages and another 200-300 messages on social media or in emails that were "of a threatening nature." Some of those met the criteria to be considered terroristic threats under Nebraska law."

Not charging anyone doesn't automatically mean it never happened. Also, based on the Police statement, I doubt Higgins will ever be charged with a false claim or report.

And you think Barnhart is going to change that so easily?

Well, of course you do. Well, that Ole Barnhart ought to just smash'em old NCAA fellers in their mouth, right? At would show'em. *SPIT* Just bust'em one.

Well that would fall under the corroboration.

I would also say that 650 messages is a non story.

“It’s not an exact science,” Barnhart said of the process of making an NCAA Tournament bracket. “If it was an exact science, you don’t need the committee.”

Nail on the head. Get rid of the committee. Make it an exact science.

I've been saying this for years now about Mitch. He is a President's dream and he's not going anywhere. On top of everything you said, athletics is paying $65 million of an academic building...unheard of in today's athletic landscape and in the climbing cost of higher education, the perfect situation.
